This hotel is described as 4* plus boutique hotel, well it might have been 20 years ago but certainly not now! I would give this 2 maybe at a push 3 stars. Staff are sparse with usually only one receptionist, there’s no bell boy, and no concierge. The hotel needs a complete facelift, it is dull and dismal everywhere, the rooms, hallways bar area are awful. Paper peeling off the walls in our first room. We did ask for another room and the staff were brilliant at accommodating us but to be honest the second room wasn’t much better. The staff are wonderful here, very helpful and we felt they did try to accommodate our requests but it’s difficult in such a run down hotel. We also got a lecture on arrival about fines for smoking in the room or corridors, we explained that we are non smokers. This didn’t seem to stop people smoking weed in their rooms, corridors or lifts! The smell was quite overpowering at times. Location is brilliant but I wouldn’t recommend it, there are many other alternatives that are way better.

Hotel's Favorite
I travelled to Chicago for the first time from Spain. I stayed at The Whitehall twice, once in April 2022 and once in May 2022. This hotel was in a great location. It was clean and it met my needs. It felt secure and I felt safe walking the streets at night nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful and check-in on each occasion was very fast. There was everything you could need around this hotel. This hotel will be my place of choice each time I visit Chicago. In fact, I am returning in August and placed a new reservation yesterday.

thank for a great service from Alicia on a reception who were so much helpful and supportive. I need to print my train tickets to travel in Europe and Alicia helped and fixed all my issues with e-mail addresses and spent as much time it needed.

The location is excellent . It is about a two minute walk from the north end of Michigan Avenue very close to the Hancock building/Water Tower. Staff were super friendly and helpful from the moment we came through the door. They assisted with parking as well as giving an extensive list of where to eat in the neighborhood. They also provided personal recommendations when we asked. Thanks Mark, Felicia and Alicia for your great service and charming personalities; you made the stay feel even more special. It is an older hotel that is not likely to appeal to those who want one with all the bells and whistles and an expansive fancy lobby associated with a modern, high-end hotel. Those aspects may be nice but they also come at a substantial price and do not guarantee great service. This hotel is an excellent value for the money. Our rooms were clean, spacious and the beds were comfortable. The views from the room were lovely so that was an extra bonus. There are refrigerators in the room and plug-in slots for electronic devices along the edge of the desk. Other reviewer‘s have not noticed these items and have complained that they did not exist. There was nothing that we needed that was not there. While we did not request any, I heard from another guest in the elevator that staff was very responsive on bringing them ice when they needed it. Hotel staff also take Covid safety seriously. This was a great stay in a beautiful city. I would not hesitate to return to the Whitehall.

The hotel needs a major facelift. Everywhere in the hotel looks old, outdated and well worn. Things in the room no longer work like they should cause they’re that old now. Grubby marks all over. Double bed with 3 pillows? With no spare, very random. The location is great but If you read this, pay a little bit more for a more modern and up to date hotel it’ll be worth it.

Stayed here while in Chicago for baseball games. The hotel was clean & the staff was friendly and helpful. The room are on the smaller size but comfortable. The location is outstanding you are close to everything. There is no parking on site but there are several parking decks very close. The only issue is that the hotel didn't clean during our stay so we had to call for tissue & towels when we needed. They were sometimes slow to respond. I would stay here again.

Large room with confy bed, big TV and a room safe. Stayed on 10th floor. No outside noise. Very quiet room. Restaurant was open despite the note on the webside. Rooms not serviced during our stay. But upon request fresh towels etc available. Great location. City Center within walking distance. 5 min walking from Metro Station "Chicago" Red Line.

We booked and checked into this hotel the day we booked it on August 24-26. We weren’t there 1/2 hour and got the heck out of there. Room 302 was filled with urine stains and smell all over carpet. Room 304 was worse. Ceiling was water damage. No coffee, no breakfast. No nothing 2 ladies at the front desk threatened us and were rude to us when we told them we were leaving. One started screaming, your not getting your money back. We left immediately. Also, this place has people leaving there for long extended times. I met a couple on my way out asking about their mail. Lost one night at $150 plus tax and $50 parking. As soon as we got to our new hotel Sable on Navy Pier . We all showered . They nasty hotel should be shut down. This is a family owned hotel. Run, run, run. Unless you want bedbugs and don’t mind urine filled carpet.

We recently stayed at the Whitehall for a weekend getaway. The staff were friendly and the location is good, but that is the highlight of the hotel. The Whitehall is in desperate need of updating and care. I know Covid has been tough, but the things we saw have been festering for longer than Covid. Room was outdated with peeling wallpaper, peeling paint, chipped furniture and fixtures. Bathroom fixture dated, cracked, and in a poor state. Hallways dark and dingy. I am sorry to say, but is not a room that we looked forward to returning back to at the end of our day enjoying the city. We had a parking package (valued at $50 per night), which helped defray the cost and soften the blow of an underwhelming hotel experience. It is a bit less expensive that hotels around it, so it has that gong for it, but it is still by no means inexpensive (of course nothing really is in that area of Chicago). If location and saving a few dollars is tops on your list, then this could be a decent stay for you depending on your priorities. If you prefer someplace more updated and less downtrodden then you'd be better off spending a bit more money and choosing a different hotel in the area.
