What I liked the most about staying at this hostel was the atmosphere. At the second floor of the hostel, people can gather to eat, watch tv or play pool. I was happy to see the variety of options one can have for breakfast. Good location.

If I'm not giving a 5 points it is because I stayed most of the time outside. Location is the best strength of this hostel, in the heart of downtown Chicago and close to everything. My shared room was big, neat and warm. Bathrooms were clean and the entire property is huge! Breakfast was ok. It looked more like a... More

I stayed in one of the private rooms when I was attending an academic conference. I was really happy with the location and the room, which was very simple but clean and had everything I needed. The staff were very friendly, and it was nice to see so many people from all over the world at breakfast and hanging out... More

Ideally located in "The Loop", just a short walk to Millennium Park and many other Chicago attractions. Extremely friendly staff that always go the extra mile to make guests feel welcome and bond with their fellow-travellers. Practically unlimited free breakfast and free beer on some evenings.

This place gathers so many assets. First, it's right in the loop, in the centre of the city. Second, it's a huge hostel, with large dorms, a big and pleasant living room with confortable couches, billiards, extra-wide tv screen, and a breakfast room with a nice urban view thanks to bay windows. Then, it's quite affordable, clean, breakfast included, reliable... More

I stayed at HI- Chicago in early-mid december for 6 nights. It was my first time at a Hostel , I was traveling solo, and I am fluent in english. It was a really good experience. They give you a swipe card that you will need to access everything ( elevators, rooms, floors beyond the 1st/ground floor). Towel, extra bedding... More

My first time staying at a hostel, and it was amazing. We walked from Union Station. Checking in was speedy with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Loved the entry way. One needs a key to access the elevator and again to use the elevator. I had no problems with my key was comfortable with the security. My room, 602 room 4... More

I spent 6 nights at HI Chicago in a 10 bedroom female dorm. From check in to check out my stay here was superb. At first I was a bit skeptical because of all the Hostel horror stories I've heard about but this place was like a Hotel! Very clean (rooms and shared bathrooms) and trust me I'm a very... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
