The Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park hotel garners mixed feedback, with its prime location often celebrated for providing easy access to the city's attractions. Guests appreciate the hotel's vibrant atmosphere and commend the cleanliness of the rooms, though some areas are perceived as outdated.
While the comfort and views of some rooms earn praise, issues with maintenance and outdated decor are not uncommon. Travelers express frustration over unexpected fees and question the value, citing overpriced amenities and underwhelming service that occasionally lacks efficiency and organization.

I booked a 4-night stay at the hotel in Gold Room category, which offered access to Gold Lounge. Booking via travel agents meant it also came with $100 hotel credit which were great to cover various things for such a long stay, just that the welcome drink was not offered until much later into the stay. There's also welcome amenities offered later the same night which is nice.
Check in was done at the Gold Lounge which definitely helps to save time against the long-ish check in queue at ground level. The team was not available during late night or breakfast time though, which the ground floor team were able to assist swiftly (for my check out at least).
The room was in a perfect condition, with sufficient power sockets and USB ports next to the bed for charging. The bathroom is huge with washing basins on both sides of the washroom, with a large closet inside which is great for placing the clothes for my stay. Their twice-daily room service also help kept the room in a great condition throughout the stay.
The dedicated team in Gold Lounge (present for most of the day) were very helpful and genuinely interested in serving guest's needs, I spent some time talking to some of the staff there and their enthusiasm made my stay in the Lounge more pleasant. Their offering of breakfast, evening canapes and night deserts were amazing, delicious and are on a rotating pattern so you won't be too bored at the selection.
I also visited the bar at ground floor for late night meals, whilst the food option is somewhat limited (only restricted to salad on one night due to "kitchen changes"), the food quality was decent. Drinks cost slightly higher but the hotel credit helped to covered them all. Had the new restaurant open the food option should be much broader and the bar would be less crowded.
Overall, it was a great stay and the Gold Lounge team certainly lifts up the overall experiences. If I have visit Chicago again I would stay here without hesitation.

For our 10 night stay the Gold Floor staff was quite friendly, upon arrival we received a nice little welcome snack of cheeses and sausage and crackers ,but the overall food and refreshments weren't up to the same level as other Fairmont Hotel Gold Floors that I have stayed at. The self serve refreshment area would get a little crowded and very often the staff would apologise that they had run out of the scrumptious 8pm desserts if we got there at 8:15. Our room was quite well kept except the bathroom door was coming off its rails, a handyman came in and said it would be a big job, we were offered a replacement suite but decided we didn't want to pack up and then unpack again. If an upgrade had been offered we would have made the move. This Fairmont has a gym but no pool, jacuzzi or sauna-they offer a pass to walk over to the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness that does provide all those services and more. This was the first time in Chicago for me and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the city ,eating in the restaurants and getting my mind blown by the sheer size of the Chicago!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
I spent 5 days at this hotel for a work related event. There are a few things need improvement. First, it’s a city hotel, right across the street from a very busy firehouse. Every time the trucks leave, they blow the sirens. Even if there is no traffic. Secondly, there’s no restaurant on property, just a bar with a very limited menu. There are no outlets easily accessible by the bed although some coworkers had an outlet on the nightstand light. AC seems to be an issue as well. Pillows totally suck but was comfortable. Like many hotels these days the have shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in big bottles with a pump. But if you wear glasses good luck figuring out what is what.
There is no vending machines or sundry store to buy water, snack or soda. They do have mini bars in the rooms but a small package of cashews was $25. I can only imagining what a can of soda goes for.
For a rack rate of over $400, I expected more.

The price for this hotel was about 2 or 3 times what I've paid at other hotels around the country, but I decided to splurge for my birthday. I figured I would get a luxury experience. Not at all. The outside is pretty, and downstairs, everything is fancy looking and decorated like it would be a luxury experience. Once we got in the room, it was a basic room like from any other hotel. The only difference is they have a small fridge with $6-16 drinks and you aren't allowed to use it for your own stuff. They also have a little tray with snacks and a QR code with prices. My 13 year old almost grabbed a small box of gummy bears and then I scanned it and it said that it would be $15. We did not touch any of the stuff. I had also asked for a refrigerator and microwave in the room on my reservation and reminded them at check-in. We didn't get it until day 2 or 3 after calling them again and the refrigerator looked all beat up like they got it from the trash. They also charged an extra $375 at check-in in case we used any of their amenities. We did not, and still got charged $88. Almost every other hotel I've stayed has offered free breakfast. There's different levels of breakfast of course, but it ranges from a muffin and orange juice to a whole breakfast with bacon and eggs and sausage. The only complimentary item here was water. They charge if you use the coffee maker in the room. You can also pay an extra almost $100 per day for breakfast, but I cannot imagine a breakfast being that amazing that I would be paying that kind of money. It was very underwhelming for the price paid. There's a guy named Benjamin outside that is very friendly and the location is great walking distance to a lot of stuff, but that is about all that is nice about the place.

Traveled for a conference, chose the Fairmont Chicago as it was one of the conference hotels. Overall, an excellent stay. Sprung for the Gold Floor which was quite nice. The room was a good size with a very comfortable bed, nice bathroom and plenty storage space (closet was in the bathroom). Housekeeping was excellent and timely. Turndown service was offered with bottled waters provided.
The staff in the Gold lounge were excellent and very accommodating. The food and beverage options were a bit more limited than a couple of other Fairmont Gold floors I have been to, but was more than enough food. The views are quite nice, and then lounge was recently updated with plenty of seating. It never felt too crowded. Again, service was wonderful, and I was remembered by name during my stay.
There is no gift shop/sundries available other than the (expensive) in-room mini-bar, but there is a CVS right across the street.
The hotel fitness center is nice, and passes to a nearby gym are included in the resort fee.
Would definitely stay here again when I return. Only a couple of blocks to the river and plenty of food options nearby.

Will the size of my room is nice, it has a great view and bed is comfortable, there is a lot to be desired. I arrived at nearly 2a from the airport. I was so thirsty and having stayed at many Fairmonts, was expecting at least a bottle of complementary water or even a reusable bottle like I got at my last Fairmont stay in a different location. Instead there was a $7 bottle of Avian or some glasses in the bathroom (ew). I wanted to take a shower, but was surprised there are no shower caps. There was nothing at all but bars of soap, shampoo and conditioner. Most Fairmont provide qtips, toothpaste, or other small convenience items, but not here. The furniture looks like low end IKEA is made of particle board. I went to the gym and while there was a water dispenser, there were no cups!! Most high end hotel gyms have water, ear buds, snack bars, locker room, but this has nothing, not even a bathroom!
Some of this stuff I wouldn’t even expect from a lower end hotel but this location is a horrible representation of the Fairmont. Honestly, give your guests water for goodness sakes. No one trusts those bathroom glasses.

The location is good and the room was spacious with a comfy, if not high bed, partial lake view which was great and a good shower. The air con is great too. There’s bottles of products in the shower but no other items such as cotton pads, hair masks etc - you have to ask if you want anything. We had a bloody Mary one evening which was delicious - pity the next day they didn’t have the mix to make any more. We had massages one day and I have to say my husband and I both thought they were amongst the worst we’ve ever had (and we’ve had a lot) The ladies took quite a while to come back into the room and took a while just pressing us over the towels before actually starting the massages and then the techniques were lacking. The restaurant is being refurbished so they are using the lobby for food and drinks which can’t be helped. Day one and two breakfasts were really good and with the most lovely waitress. Day three and four tut tut no breakfast available - they said you can have coffee… erm no we have paid for 4 nights with breakfast and even at check in they said we could take breakfast daily in their temporary restaurant in the lobby - no mention of not being able to actually have any. When my husband asked in the lobby on day 3 the lady said the kitchen was being refurbished so we went to reception where the man said you can order it in your room (doesn’t make sense if the kitchen is being refurbished) any how, in the room there’s a sofa and a desk so nowhere for two of you to eat breakfast so we said no we didn’t want to do that. He said he’d speak to someone which he did and they said they’d refund two breakfasts… if we’d known this prior to travel we’d have booked elsewhere with a function restaurant. Despite these groans we still enjoyed our stay.

While the proper is beautiful and the location is nice, we were disappointed with our stay. The rooms had very little counter space to place belongings and definitely not enough drawers for our clothing (2 small). No refrigerator or microwave; leftovers went to waste (we were traveling with an 8-y-o so this was kind of a big deal). When I requested more coffee from housekeeping when they came to our door, I was told I had to go downstairs to get it. Aren’t they the ones who refill when they come in to tidy a room? The WiFi was at best, slow but didn’t work most of the time. Watching Netflix with our account was nearly impossible. We were charge a $25 per day activity fee that was not verbally communicated, thus missed out of some saving we would have taken advantage of. While I understand we are in the city and prices are higher, the cost for beverages in the lounge (for what we got) are ridiculous. I ordered a pear martini for $20ish and the glass was 2/3s full. Very likely would not stay here again considering the costs.
That said, the young lady who checked us in, our bellhop and all the servers we encountered were extremely friendly.

Overall it’s a ok hotel. Staff was nice and accommodating for the most part. While there, the restaurant was closed which was a bummer since that’s one reason we picked it. We were able to order food from the bar in the lobby. The room was ok but I’ve had better stays for a better price in Chicago. The room smelled like someone spilled cologne, it wasn’t the most pleasant but we dealt with it. The room lacked a mini fridge or microwave, which was unfortunate because with the food portions in Chicago, we couldn’t store any food leftovers. Also couldn’t keep any drinks cold. The view was nice, we could see the water and park. There was a cvs and convenient store close, so that was nice. Parking valet was $81 a night but you can self park across the street for about $56 a night. Just know if you park there, there is an underground walk through to get to the hotel but they lock the doors after a certain time which was never told to us. So we made that walk to only find out we couldn’t get into the building. It’s seems they would have keycard access at least but no. We called the front desk to ask if someone could atleast open the door for us since we weren’t told about the locked door and no one would come open the door for us which was unfortunate. Not the best way to be accommodating to your guest. Overall I probably wouldn’t book here again based on the experience . There’s just better options in Chicago for the price.

Dear Q1350WRbrandons, Thank you for the time for relaying your comments about your recent stay with us. Although hearing negative feedback is never pleasant, it is through such feedback that we can isolate issues and areas in need of improvement and enhancements throughout the hotel. We are truly sorry that you did not enjoy your experience with us. Unfortunately, you were disappointed the restaurant was closed, I am happy to inform you that our restaurant is undergoing refurbishment; we are opening a new fine dining restaurant called TORO, during the refurbishment we are offering our gust a full-service dining from 6am to midnight at the lobby bar (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). Your feedback regarding the Refrigerators and Microwaves, please note that we offer them upon request, free of charge. In addition, we are indeed saddened that you perceived several of our services to lack promptness. I am sorry that over the eventful and lively day of your stay with us, you felt our team be not as responsive as desired. I have certainly discussed the matters with the respective department head in order for necessary action to be carried out. Your feedback has been taken very seriously and will ensure that our future guests will not experience this inconvenience. Once again thank you for your constructive feedback and we certainly hope that you can consider this unpleasant experience as an isolated case that will not deter you from staying at our hotel in the future. Kind regards, Tim Muhsen Director of Guest Experience.

This hotel is not as nice as the Fairmont Copley Square in Boston. The room was nice with a beautiful Jew of millennium park. The location is good. We did not know they were undergoing renovations or construction until we checked in; had we known we would have gone elsewhere. The best part of the hotel was the bellmen and valet people who were full of tips and were very helpful. The housekeepers were good too. I was frustrated because there was a nespresso machine in the room but we could not get any refills. Housekeeping said call the operator, the operator said call room service, they said call someone else. Finally my husband talked to the concierge and we got some pods for the pot. It’s a little thing, but it mattered.

I think it is a bar that is supplied with soft drinks and alcohol. You are charged for what you take out of the refrigerator but check with hotel if this is correct because policy might change.
