The only place to stay in Chicago
Let me preface this review by saying: I spent most of my life in hotels for short stays due to work. Many of my friends and colleagues ask me where to stay because I’ve built a pretty good scheme to judge hotels by and rarely do I review them. Enter the Robey that was immediately so impressive I was annoyed I’d have to write them a review. This hotel sets the standard of what every other hotel in the country should be doing. Every single one of the staff here has treated me like they’ve known me for years. From the friendliest greetings to a genuine “How are you?” I have been absolutely blown away. Every last one of them have been going above and beyond to make this stay incredible and I’m just here for a quick overnight. The attention to detail in the rooms is amazing. Super comfortable beds and the down pillows are the cleanest and best shaped I’ve used in ages. Bathrooms are so clean by the way. You would think this place opened yesterday. The Up Room is not to be missed. When we arrived the front desk sent us up with a couple free drinks to use at one of their bars. We went to see the skyline instead and the views did not disappoint. Cocktails were quick from the fully stocked bar with some of the best options, delivered quickly by staff who gave us plenty of room to chill and catch up in a quiet corner of the rooftop. These people truly get it. Marriot Bonvoy typically does a good job but this is the most impressive I’ve ever seen them. My room: 1107 Skyline view and really nice exterior view to the city. Very impressive blackout curtains and plenty of room to more around and get work done. The orientation of the couch and table for getting work done along with the bed are angled for the best view while in the room. Would absolutely request this room again. The only thing I’d change about this place: The mini fridge in the room comes with two complimentary cokes (1 diet), 2 convenience size Fiji waters and two beers. I would love a full minibar though. While I love that it’s all included in the stay, had I not met up with a gentleman caller and gone out for cocktails I would have stayed in and had a couple drinks here. I have felt so at home at this property that it’s bookmarked for Chicago to use as my first priority hotel. Unless they’re sold out, I don’t intend on staying anywhere else.
Hi Greyvanpet, Wow! Thank you so much for highlighting all of your most recent experience! This is what we truly about and love to be of service to guest just like you. We are so glad you were able to savor all of the amazing things The Robey has to offer. When travels bring you back to Chicago, please feel free to reach out to me directly and I'd be so happy to host you at a discounted rate. -Kiara Felfle

beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, a bit of a wait for the elevator on busy nights at the root top bar so take the stars and avoid waiting 8 to 10 mins for an empty elevator. Rooms are super clean, earplugs come in handy for when it's noisy outside, this location is in the heart of a busy neighborhood, that means a lot of city noise, but the location is perfect. Public grasportaion never an issue here, there are trains, bikes, scooters, you'll never have to wait too long for share car services, the area is safe, lots of shops, cafes, restaurants, bike paths like the 606 that takes you through the west side neighborhoods, perfect place for a morning run, or mid day bike ride. The second for of the hotel is very peaceful during the day, there's a coffee bar and plenty of space to lounge, it's also quiet, ideal place to do some work. The roof top bar, I think it's call the UP ROOM gets very busy on weekends, it's a lovely bar with awesome views, I would recommend going there on a Tuesday early afternoon. I didn't try the Cafe on the first floor but I hope to do that next time.
Dear estudio310, Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review and detailed feedback! We are happy you had positive interactions with our amazing staff and and enjoyed everything that makes the Robey special; from our fabulous location in the center of Wicker Park/Bucktown, excellent F&B outlets including Cafe, Up Room and Lounge as well as our lovely guestrooms. We appreciate you pointing out some great tips to make your stay with us more enjoyable such as taking stairs for a shorter commute to our outlets, taking advantage of our in-room amenities that help offset urban street noises and all of the many things to do in our neighborhood. While public transportation is plentiful in our area, we always encourage our guests rent one of our bikes for an adventure (complimentary) and take a ride on the nearby popular 606 trail. We would love to welcome you back again soon and next time please do visit Cafe, brunch is phenomenal! Feel free to reach out to reservations@therobey.com anytime. Sincerely, Robey Management

    Eclectic; Great Neighborhood
I recently stated at The Robey while in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area for work. It was difficult to figure out where to park to check-in. There are no real visible signs for the hotel. Once that was figured out, the check in process was fine. It’s “old school”’as you get an actual room key instead of an electronic card. The room was nice enough. The floor I was on must have had some work happening as there were ladders and work carts scattered about the hall my first night (they were gone the next afternoon when I returned from my work commitment). The room was large. The bed was SUPER comfortable! There were some odd things about the room - the light switches were small knobs that actually need to be pushed to turn on/off the lights (took me a minute to figure that out). The room was well appointed and included a white noise machine and electric blackout shades. My biggest complaint is the bathroom. It was very large and had a walk in shower with a shower curtain (GROSS). Given all the room in the bathroom, i’m not certain why there isn’t a glass door on the shower. Also, there was no counter or shelves around the sink area. I had no place to put my toiletries. And, there are no hooks or ways to hang up a hand towel. Also, the desk in bedroom area was fairly small and wasn’t conducive to spreading out my work. I enjoyed my stay. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The location was perfect and had many restaurants within walking distance. One of my biggest, regular complaints about Chicago area hotels is the cost of parking (which was almost $40 per night!). It’s highway robbery!! Overall, I would definitely choose to stay here again if I was in the area.
Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay with us! We usually recommend that our guests stop in front of the hotel on North Ave in the loading zone in front of the hotel so that they may check in with us and obtain their parking documents and be guided to the self park lot across the street. One of the benefits of our historic property is the old fashioned room keys that we still use in the tower section of the hotel, certainly unique! I agree, our light switches can be a bit tricky upon first glance, we apologize for the inconvenience! We're so sorry to hear of the inconveniences you experienced with the bathroom configuration, these are certainly points that we can work at. We take great pride in the level or service that we're able to provide, and the quality of area recommendations that we're able to give. We hope you were able to take advantage of some on the retail discounts that we've negotiated with our local partners! We can't wait to open our doors for you upon arrival for your next stay in Wicker Park if you let us! It was truly a pleasure to host you! Warmly, Robey Management

Room was charming and spotless. The bed very comfy and bathroom ample. Made great use of the space, which was a bit smaller than expected and only reason this isn’t 5-star. Staff was wonderful and location great.

My family loved the hotel. The kids had an amazing time with the bunk beds. The room and bathroom were very clean. Le Labo bath products were great. Front desk staff were friendly. We cannot recommend the restaurant, Cafe Robey.

Hi katepetr0, Thanks so much for leaving us a review and sharing your thoughts about your stay! We're glad you enjoyed staying in the Annex Lofts and liked the smaller amenities like the Le Labo bath products. Le Labo actually offers free samples to our guests if you visit their store right beside our Milwaukee exit! Although you enjoyed your experience with front office, I am so sorry to hear you didn't feel the same way about the restaurant. We hope that you'll consider giving us another chance dining at the cafe if you decide to stay with us again.

If you are looking for an old, decades past its prime, overpriced hotel, this is the place for you! The rooms are postage stamp sized, especially for the price you pay. On the plus side, the rooms are clean and the staff friendly. Also, the restaurants in the building (as far as I can tell, not run or owned by the hotel) put out good food. Unless you are wedded to the Wicker Park neighborhood the hotel is located in, find a better priced hotel with more amenities and Uber/Lyft into the area

Dear 121tomash, Thanks for your feedback. Glad to hear you experienced a clean room and friendly staff. We own all of our Food & Beverage Outlets so it's great to hear you enjoyed your experience there as well. Room rates tend to be higher in peak summer months, as with all other hotels in the city. The Robey opened in 2016 and we are fortunate to be located in a historical Art Deco building. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us.

This hotel is a 5min walk from Blue Line coming from O’Hare. I have stayed here several times and really enjoy the Bucktown/Wicker park location. We had a delicious breakfast at Cafe Robey and enjoyed happy hour on The Rooftop and Cabana Club. There is great shopping nearby. The Bloomingdale trail is a couple blocks away-good for walking, running or bike rides.

Very comfortable stay and close to everything. We went to a Cubs game on Labor Day and got back to the hotel via bus in 25 minutes. The restaurants/bars on the premises were great. The room was on the smallish side with keyed locks that took a few tries to master. The view from the rooftop bar is amazing at night.
