I was given the amazing opportunity to film an episode of 'Tryin a Ting' in Dominica with my co-host Fiona Compton (@KnowYourCaribbean on Instagram), so this was a work trip as well as a needed short break. From the time I arrived in Dominica, I was greeted with nothing but niceness, smiles and kindness - this lasted the entire duration of the trip!
Rosalie Bay Resort is breathtaking! I stayed in one of the river facing rooms which also has views of the ocean from the balcony. The room was just perfect, very spacious, beautifully decorated with all the amenities I needed, and the bed I swear has some form of juju because I was knocked out instantly once my head hit them pillows, or maybe it was the soothing sounds from the river and the ocean. Whatever it was I loved it because I left that place feeling refreshed!
I believe the staff is the best thing about the resort! They made me feel like family and they treated me so as well! Nothing was too much; they were always ready to help. The food was perfect every single time especially the creole breakfast buffet, and they catered for my vegan friends as well which was amazing!
If you are a spiritual person like me then the location is perfect for your morning meditations. The black sand beach is the ideal location for breathwork practices and us Caribbean people possess a deep ancestral belief in bathing where the river meets the sea in order to break hexes and curses!
The main reason for our visit to Dominica was to take part in the WATO Festival. This is probably one of the best food festivals I've ever experienced, and it is being held on the hotel grounds! The festival is an outdoor cooking experience where patrons actually cook food the old-time way. It’s a cultural culinary event recognizing the indigenous Kalinago and African people and their experiences.
Executive Chef Nyanda Peltier Charles who's the brain behind WATO was the perfect hostess, this woman is so well connected and planned everything for us including a river lime and a tour of the island. I will forever be indebted to you for your kindness!
This was my perfect short break! I highly recommend the Rosalie Bay Eco Resort to anyone wishing to find themselves and to fall in love with nature. Thank you Rosalie Bay, I miss you already.

From the moment we arrived at the property, we felt this would be a special week…And it was! Rosalie Bay is a smaller boutique resort with 30 units. The owner had a vision for a unique Eco-Resort 25 years back, and the property says close to that vision. We wanted an “active” holiday over 7 days. The very capable Zahir, who is the assistant manager of the resort- became our tour guide and friend. We hiked with him to the Victoria Falls, traveled to many places like the plunge cave at Titou Gorge, the snorkeling at Champaign Reef, the southern tip of the island at Scott’s Head and many more. Back at Rosalie Bay, the restaurant is very serviceable for the breakfast and some special dinners. The property includes some really nice trails and a river walk area. When you feel like being pampered, the staff at The Spa had a great assortment of treatments and we enjoyed the sports massage, mani/pedi, etc. Rates are very reasonable. The highlight of the week (in line with the eco and conservation vision of the owner) was getting call from the staff one evening alerting us that a female Leatherback sea turtle had come up on the beach to lay eggs. Rosalie Bay has an in house turtle protection and egg nursery team. Poachers can be a problem but resorts like this one in Dominica have worked hard to keep the females safe when they come ashore for egg laying at night. What an amazing experience with local people, fellow guests, staff to celebrate this magnificent animal In addition to Zahir, special thanks to: Aisha & Odette at the front desk, for making us feel so welcomed. Nyanda (head chef) our server Danielle and the entire staff of the restaurant for fresh and flavorful meals, and the Rosalie rum cocktails! Diana at The Spa, who knows everything about sore muscles and nails - including polish colors! We will definitely be back in the future!

It brings us great joy to know that from the moment you arrived, you felt the uniqueness of our property and the vision that has guided us for the past 25 years. We strive to offer an active and engaging holiday experience, and we’re thrilled that Zahir, our facilities manager, was able to make your stay even more exceptional. We are also pleased that you enjoyed our restaurant, trails, and the relaxing treatments at The Spa. Our team works diligently to provide top-notch service and create a welcoming atmosphere, and your kind words about Aisha, Odette, Nyanda, Danielle, and Diana mean the world to us. Our turtle protection and egg nursery team are dedicated to preserving these incredible creatures, and we’re glad you could share in that magical moment. We look forward to welcoming you back to Rosalie Bay in the future. Thank you once again for your kind review and for choosing to stay with us. Warm regards,

We stayed at Rosalie Bay because of a Travelzoo package. The grounds of the resort were well kept. The buildings were in still in repair mode due to the results from covid—i.e. their main restaurant, and our room was without water for a day due to a damaged pipe. Our Ocean front suite had probably the best view in the resort of Rosalie Bay and the beach. Sadly as there are severe riptides you can’t swim at the beach, but the pool is nice. You have to want to get there as it is in an out of the way location, about an hour south of the airport. The staff was very nice and the food was excellent. The Spa was one of the nicest massage rooms I have ever experienced! I did not like the fact that for dinner we had to call in our orders and could not order past 6:30 PM. Service was on Island time-some days it took an hour or more to be served and have our meal—I understand that if the hotel had been full, but there were maybe three rooms occupied most of the week we were there. Zahir, their man Friday was a great tour guide, airport driver and a fountain of knowledge. Judy their girl Friday was a wealth of local knowledge and an excellent guide as well-both of these people make the resort a nice place to stay.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Premises and location are absolutely beautiful (you have to swim in river, its amazing, ask security to show you swimming hole). Resort is very quiet and peaceful. Tou will be constantly watching birds and iguanas. Staff, especially in restaurant, AMAZING. Food delicious and affordable. In moments it felt like we were only guests there, how quiet it was. Also, they have one central parking lot, from where you have to walk to your room, which might be depending on location of your room thru all resort. Pool was very nice. Also, check their nature trail, its short, but beutiful. Unfortunately, from 4 star resort and really high price, we were expecting room in better shape. Some outlets were dangerous, too many switches for lights were confusing, ceiling fans didnt work. Room was in need of fresh paint. First day of our stay there was horrible smell from drains in bathroom and smell in room. I guess it was because nobody stayed in room for while. Very bad water pressure in shower and finding right temperature was tricky, either cold or too hot. Room itself was very dark with heavy curtains, which were hard to open, so we had to use lights even in daylight. Major disappointment was a view. We booked expensive ocean view suite, because we wanted have ocean view for last 3 days of our vacation, but photo in room description on their website was very misleading. We couldn't see ocean at all from patio, as it was blocked with overgrown bushes. They shouldn't advertise it as ocean view room. I wish I saw reviews from this site before booking, as people were mentioning it here. Save yourself lots of money and just book some of garden rooms there. I have to say that bed was comfortable and they use good quality sheets. Please note, if you don't have car, you are stuck in middle of nowhere, location is very remote. We had luckily car, as they didn't provide water on daily basis and we could buy it somewhere else. Also, you cannot swim in ocean, due to strong currents, but beach is beautiful. As I said, location and surroundings are very beautiful, but due to room conditions and NO view from room, it was very pricey and not worth it.

Avoid avoid avoid terrible customer service, short staffed, food took a hour and half to come, We was told we can sit outside not one member of staff came to get us to say our food is ready (in our cardboard box) no plate $45ecd for sweet potato fries which came unseasoned, honey bbq wings which came to me Ice cold. No apology no discount offered. This place is overpriced and never ever ever would I come here again. As an English tourist this is by far the worse experience I have had in Dominica usually it’s completely different. Such ashame as I had hi hopes for this place. Travelled hour to get here to be faced with disappointment.

I’ve stayed with Rosalie Bay three times now, and it never disappoints. The location is quiet and off the beaten path, and the grounds are meticulously maintained. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the staff are all incredibly welcoming. We love the on-site restaurant, but since everything is prepared fresh meals can take a little longer (you can call ahead to order if preferred). I absolutely recommend trying one of the signature treatments at the spa, and the farm tour is a can’t-miss part of the stay. Visiting during turtle season is extra magical as they wake you up to see the turtles lay eggs/hatch! It’s a special spot in Dominica.

What an amazing retreat! I was delighted with my stay in Rosalie Bay Eco Hotel and Spa. The grounds were so peaceful and full of wildlife. The river was accessible and full of fish. I found time to relax on the beach although the Atlantic is a lot stronger on this side of the island, so no swimming. Thank you to Daryl for taking me to see relatives in La Plaine and to Diana for an amazing relaxing aromatherapy massage. There is a wide variety of tasty food in the restaurant and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The pool is peaceful and a great way to cool off as well as the morning rain.

We arrived with a group of 9 people, 5 rooms, to birdwatch in Dominica. Greeted at the airport by Ziaya, a member of the “R.B.R. Team extraordinaire!” Arriving a little over an hour later at this beautiful property and warmly greeted by manager Avril and staff. It only got better from there. We needed van service to reach specific birding locations, packed lunches to go immediately after breakfast and a rewarding dinner at the end of a busy day…. All of the above accomplished with stellar style and grace. The rooms were generous and beautifully decorated with an uncompromising commitment to elegance and a peaceful environment. There is a comfortable swimming pool, gym and spa however we had no time to indulge. I do not exaggerate when I note not a single staff person was not always so positive and anxious to solve any questions we might submit …although it is important to say it very well could be the mission statement of the entire country . A very kind and gracious population. We thank you Rosalie Bay for a wonderful visit.

Very warm welcome by a hostess who accompanied us to our room. Clean and spacious room. The outdoor park is well maintained, the setting is pleasant and calm (beach with superb sunrise, and river on another side). The swimming pool needs to be restored. On the other hand, in terms of catering, this is where I put a downside, because the service is very very very long, so much so that when the dishes arrive, we almost no longer know what we have ordered. The food was good. The breakfast is quite generous (slightly faster service) Value for money: a bit expensive though We will not go back

We chose to go to Dominica to relax. This is exactly what you got at Rosalie Bay. It is quiet, clean and the food is delicious. Beware that there are no restaurants near so you either have to eat at the resort and arrange for one of the driver's to take you to a local spot. Speaking of divers, ours was Zahri. He was Amazing. He answered all of our questions, stopped for local rum on our way to the resort and even took us to a local spot for some music, dominos and food. We had a blast. He is very knowledgeable, always in a good mood and will keep you safe. (Dominica is a safe place anyway). I also had an excellent spa treatment. Diana found knots on my back that I didnt even know existed. We went whale watching, visited the waterfalls... all in all, we had a great time. The people at Rosalie Bay are polite, will accommodate you when possible and will make your stay stress free. Thank you.
