We were here on a camping trip and did not want to cook, so went to this restaurant. We did not expect gourmet cuisine, but the good was barely ok. Maybe they had an off day. We chose the daily special (the pasta marinara), which was some pasta with warmed up canned tomatoes (rather watery) which were quite tasteless. It came with garlic bread (the best part of the meal) and ribs that were pretty dry. Our granddaughter had the chicken strips with fries (they could have been a bit more crispy). Service was ok, however our pasta came before the drink order was served and the chicken and fries came five minutes later. We had to remind the waitress that we were waiting for an iced tea. Friendly, but amateurish service. At least the food was warm and the beer cold (even if the glass was only 2/3 full). Not too many choices here, so shop around.

We aren't campers but were interested in exploring the Cypress Hills. We booked a king studio in the condos. It was perfect. Clean/well appointed/comfortable. Everyone at the Lodge was very very friendly and made us feel welcome. We were pleasantly surprised with our accommodations and the area in general. We wished we had ventured there sooner. We will definitely be back for another long weekend.

Pros: the condo had a great layout and a full kitchen. The location was incredibly peaceful at night. We had a top floor unit and did not experience any inter-unit noise. Even the fold-out sofa bed was comfortable! The staff were pleasant when we dealt with them. The surroundings are amazing (Cypress Hills Provincial Park) and, during the Covid crisis, surprisingly quiet.

Cons: prices seemed high, given the location. Although the condo overall seemed very clean, there was a sock left over from a previous guest on the floor of the master bedroom closet.

While the pandemic runs its course in the city, Cupress hills provincial park was next to empty. This wonderful hotel has had to lay off everyone but at 100 a night its an amazing deal
We had sunny weather and super friendly conversations with the managers who seemed gratef to have our business. I hope more locals realize that waiting our covid is best done in a wide open park such as this. Get out and support this wonderful their staff.

This was the second time we attended Elkwater Lodge. We came here this year with 26 people for a family reunion/birthday party for my elderly mother. The staff have been friendly and helpful whenever there was a problem in the past. This time we booked the Burglers restuarant for a private birthday party. We preordered off a menu with prices which was sent to us 2 weeks prior to the event. We sent our preorder in with individual order numbers for each individual family. The service at the restaurant was poor and slow considering we had pre-ordered. When we went to pay the bill that night, they would not let us pay for it with each family paying their own according to our order number. They insisted it was put on my room tab which I had to pay on checkout. That created a lot of work for me figuring out how much each family owed me ( I had to figure out the tax and gratuity for each family). When I did figure out how much each family owed I realized that they charged us more than what was on the menu prices they sent me 2 weeks prior to the event. The overall bill was $100 more than it should have been. Each meal was anywhere from $ 1 to $9 more per menu item than we were quoted. For example a bison burger went from $18 to $27. I complained about the change in prices. I was told by the front office staff that the prices are subject to change but nowhere on the menu did it state that. Also the current website prices for food in the Burgler's restaurant did not have the higher prices either. I sent an email complaint asking the general manager to rectify the bill and never even got a response back. I have noticed the resort overall has deteriorated even since the year before. They need more staff for cleaning, maintenance, and yardwork and need to upgrade their rooms. It is very disappointing that management will not even call a customer back when they have a complaint. None of our family will come back after this experience. This resort has lots of potential if it was properly managed.

My wife and I made our first trip to the Cypress Hills during the week of August 24th. The area and the hotel exceeded our expectations. The Lodge was amazing with our room being far more than what we had expected .

We were in room 396 which was a perfect location. The layout of the room was perfect with a king size sleigh bed, a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub. (The tub was great after horseback riding).

The swimming pool was open and was great to use during the day...

The Lodge was close to everything and also close enough that you could walk to the beach...A great beach for small town Alberta.

Leslie and her team at the hotel were also fantastic and an absolute joy to deal with.

I have read some negative reviews about the property but I would say that those reviews should be ignored. If visiting the Cypress Hills this is where you want to stay.

The area itself was EXCEPTIONAL. If it had not been for COVID we probably would not have visited the Cypress Hills, but be assured we will be back. The only caveat is, that if you really want to explore the park there are many gravel roads. Make sure that you are comfortable driving on gravel, and that you are ok taking your vehicle on gravel. While driving we saw a fox and a cougar, and of course multitudes of cows.

Once again to Leslie and team, thanks for making our stay in the Cypress Hills so amazing. I am recommending you to all my friends.

The lodge is very run-down, and in desperate need of maintenance. The on-site restaurant was perhaps the worst such experience we have had, with poor service and food that we only ate because there were no other options. There was a note in the kitchenette to the effect that if guests didn’t wash their (mis-matched and limited) glasses, plates, etc. there would be a $30 surcharge added to the payment card after checkout. An all time low for a hotel experience.

We booked a cabin at the beginning of October for Oct 28 and 29, 2022. We asked if there was a restaurant on site and was told there was and it was open until 9 pm each evening. We arrived on the 28th to have a relaxing weekend and catch up as we haven’t seen each other in 20+ years. Cabin had no heat, bathroom was falling apart to put it bluntly, and kitchen sink dripped constantly. We went for dinner at 7 only to be advised that the restaurant was closed until Sunday due to a wine festival being held! We were never advised of this even at check in! Even though we had a kitchen in our cabin we did not take food as we wanted a weekend away. Manager was not helpful. He did not care one bit. Said people didn’t care about their room, only came because of location. But at least he refunded our money and we left a day early! Very disappointed to say the least - and all for $260 per night

This is the second time I have visited this place with my family and friends. First time was the winter and second time it was spring. Both stay had its own amazing experiences. We enjoyed at nearby ski park during winter and during summer time we enjoyed at Lake side and top of it we experienced star gazing.
This resort is situated way away from city limits. Peaceful place with breathtaking scenic beauty. No other places nearby Medicine Hat can beat such a wonderful experience which is at this resort.

The well trained, smiling staff made us feel like family. They anticipated our every need. The decor of the resort is designed to promote a feeling of peace and tranquility.

Elkwater Lake Lodge and Resort has spectacular location, amazing friendly staff, superb accommodations, delicious food, peace and quiet in a tropical setting. Couldn't ask for better. We are visiting third time for sure ☺️.

My family and I stayed at one of the alpine cabins and it seriously needs a ton of work. Here are some pros and cons

Pros:
TV Worked
Water pressure good.

Cons:
Infloor heat did not work
Both fireplaces didn’t work. (We were lucky it was surprisingly warm for this time of year)
Outlets missing cover plates ( we have small children)
Dish soap was watered down
Broom was useless
Kitchen utensils and pots and pans( One frying pan, no smaller pots and no flippers) but they had to have three lighters
Floor was extremely dirty as my kids feet were black as coal

This place is not worth the amount of money they charge. If management was smart they would take one or two nights worth of pay and put some money into this thing.
