A wonderful place amidst wilderness...very peaceful and therapeutic in the lap of nature. You can spend hours beside the river with your feet be caressed by the cool clean water. A complete detox camp. We loved it.

A relaxing idyll. I very much enjoyed it and was well cared for as a single traveller. Highlights include fireflies in the trees at night the sound of the river , birds in the morning and the excellent food.

Firstly I would reaffirm everything that has been written in the previous reviews. This is a lovely quiet spot in natural surroundings overlooking a river which, although there is a shower attached to the room, doubles as a lovely refreshing bath after a cycle ride on the free bicycles. There are lots of colourful passing birds during the day including kingfishers, orioles and yes, the occasional hornbill plus the ever present peafowl who also provide the background sound track. Fruit bats take over at sunset flying overhead toward their feeding grounds while fireflies take a turn as the night sets in. In addition we were very well looked after by the owner's father who, as well as being very considerate, is also an excellent cook. I should perhaps add that this is certainly not a five star resort with with booked entertainment and a bar (you can always bring your own alcohol of course) but to my mind something much nicer.

We spent a night at Hornbill river camp. Its in an amazing spot built on a rock and surrounded by paddy fields. Our bedroom floor was the natural rock, which was a bit uneven and like nowhere else we've ever stayed. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed was very comfortable... We had chicken curry for dinner, which is the best that we've had during our time in Sri Lanka... If you like to try something a little different this is a great place to stay...
