It’s been a long hard year, and our Springtime booking at The Grove was, inevitably overtaken by Covid restrictions, but the wonderful hotel team were unstintingly helpful in rescheduling and finessing the detail of our stay. It is a tribute to the outstanding qualities of this establishment that it was fully booked during our visit, but never seemed crowded.

From the moment we arrived we felt confident of the hotel’s Covid protocols, firmly but kindly impressed upon all visitors; a tribute to the hotel management, staff training and the high standards of cleanliness throughout the hotel, both in the bedroom and the public areas.

The hotel and grounds are immaculately maintained and the relaxed ambience allows an escape from the hurly burly beyond the electronic gates at the top of the drive.

The staff were generally quite young, but unfailingly polite, personable and efficient. There was no obvious managerial presence but the whole is amazingly well run; the staff are well trained, confident, and knowledgeable about their areas of responsibility.

The suite in which we stayed was spacious, comfortable, attractively furnished and extremely quiet, despite being close to public areas. The bathroom was luxurious and its facilities much enjoyed.

The cuisine in The Fernery is simply magnificent. There are 5, 7 or 10 course tasting menus offered, catering for vegetarians and pescatarians as well as social omnivores. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the food was superbly cooked and beautifully presented, with excellent wines available by the glass or by the bottle.

Breakfast in the Artisan Room proved a great start to the day; plenty of choice on the menu, locally sourced, and all presented with a relaxed style and ease.

Checkout, all on line, was easy and the parting gift of home made Welsh cakes was a touching gesture at the end of what had been a most enjoyable, and all too short, stay.

Worth a visit in its own right, but the surrounding countryside also has much to offer. We will certainly return before too long, and wholeheartedly recommend The Grove to anybody considering booking.

I bought this night stay with a 10 course taster menu with wines to compliment as a Christmas gift for my Husband, Son and his lovely girlfriend, it was the best gift ever!
The hotel & grounds are absolutely beautiful, we were greeted by the owner Zoe and her pleasant receptionist who were extremely friendly and showed us around the hotel and to our rooms, the quality of fixtures and fittings especially in the bathrooms is exceptional the finish is superb. The Bed, pillows and duvet were incredibly comfortable and great products in the bathroom too.
At 6.30 we met for drinks in the lounge the attentive & knowledgable staff couldn’t do enough for us, spoilt definitely comes to mind, we were taken into the restaurant to start the eating experience which was amazing, we tried food we would probably never of ordered if seen on the daily menu, all the courses were delicious the waiting staff explained every dish and Moses the Sommelier told us all about each wine and why they had chosen it to go with each course, a lovely learning experience If you love food & wine, we were over 3 hours enjoying and the conversation was so different it’s something I’d most definitely love to experience again, we are thinking a summer visit to do it all over again with different produce for a different season.
You most definitely must visit this beautiful hotel, you wouldn’t get better anywhere in the world, we have been to Claridges in London and I can confidently say we were treated no differently their standards are world Class.
Thank you to every member of staff for making our stay memorable and smiling the whole time x

Booked for a birthday treat and to get away from London to experience the coast after such a long time. Owing to a required change to our restaurant bookings the manager offered to upgrade us from a deluxe room within the main hotel to a loft cottage suite some 100 metres from the hotel. The short distance was not a problem, but sometimes umbrellas were employed and footwear to go down for dinner had to be considered. The suite was splendid and gave us the feel of having our own separate cosy retreat - the best of both worlds in hotel life! The mattress topper was like floating on a cloud of dreams.
We ate in both hotel restaurants: twice in Artisan (where breakfast is also served) and once in The Fernery, which is the more formal of the two. In both restaurants we were very happy with the distance between tables and that all staff wore face masks. The meals in Artisan were good; the food in The Fernery was truly excellent. We enjoy eating in Michelin star restaurants on our special occasions, the Fernery was better than many we know and the staff deserve congratulations.
Breakfasts were superb and, except for one morning, portions generous and well presented.
Our rooms and the hotel itself was a little bit too hot - but it was an exceptionally mild October so perhaps understandably difficult to regulate the heating to suit all tastes.
We are allotment holders so imagine our delight to stroll in the kitchen garden and also take a peek into the polytunnel where all the fresh food is grown.
The Grove is perfectly situated for a short drive into wonderful Narberth and also to the coast. We were awestruck by the beach, the cliffs and the expansive sea and greatly enjoyed a walk along the cliff path.
Thanks to Thomas and all the team for a wonderful stay - my only regret is that I had not booked another couple of nights.

We stayed here in late September 2020 and the experience was absolutely wonderful. The welcome and friendliness of the staff was faultless. Despite the need to wear masks in public places, and social distancing requirements, the staff worked extremely hard to make guests comfortable. The grounds are delightful, and the communal areas are very much in keeping with the historic nature of the buildings.

Our room was the Preseli Loft and it was beautiful. Comfortable, spacious, and very well appointed, with a sumptuous bathroom, we couldn't ask for better. The velux window above the bed offering a view of the stars is also a very nice touch.

We booked for the gourmet break, which came with a 10 course tasting menu and matched wine flight. The Fernery Restaurant does not have a Michelin star, although gets an honourable mention in the guide, but I am quite sure that the first star can't be far away. The food was absolutely incredible, with a large number of ingredients sourced from the hotel garden. Most importantly the flavours were fabulous. The skill and vision of the chefs was clear to see and they deserve any and all plaudits they receive. The thing that elevated this meal from excellent to one of the best we've ever had, however, was the matched wine flight. The Sommelier, a nice chap from Turin, was knowledgable, friendly, and clearly passionate about his craft. On top of this is a truly exquisite palate. Some of the wines were quite obscure but when pared with the menu the partnership was nothing short of magical. This quality and attention to detail was shared by everyone working in the restaurant. It was quite simply superb, and I don't have enough superlatives to describe the experience.

Service at breakfast was a little slow but the quality of the food more than made up for that. It was every bit as good as the standard we had enjoyed at dinner the night before.

To sum up this is a lovely hotel with what is quite simply a world class restaurant. We can't wait for the the opportunity to return to this delightful place again in the future.

First review I've ever written...bur the Grove deserves it. Just stayed here for our honeymoon and couldn't have hoped for more. From when we arrived in the beautiful grounds we knew the Grove was somewhere special, but it just kept getting better. Room was fantastic (we stayed in Derwen which has excellent views and is very spacious) and were greeted with a glass of Champagne as we unpacked. The food in the Artisan rooms was excellent, and the 8 course tasting menu in the Fernery is likely to be a meal we bore friends and relatives with our retelling of for years to come. It was that good. The wine pairing is well worth it, for the beautiful wines but even more so for the fascinating explanation of each wine by the expert sommelier which really added to the experience for us both. The maître d' also really helped make the experience special, being hugely attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Cannot wait to come back and cannot recommend enough.

Hidden in the countryside, it is clear from the moment that one finds it, that this must be a special hotel to which people come by recommendation, for it could never depend upon passing trade in its position on a small country road. From the moment of arrival, with genuine warm greetings and a homely atmosphere, one felt relaxed and at home.
Where most hotels demand signatures for every service, the Grove takes people on trust and just quietly keep their accounts in the background. This involves the staff from the beginning knowing each visitor by name, which greatly helps with the feeling of relaxation.
I cannot remember a better breakfast in any hotel, both in quality, and if desired, in quantity. It made thoughts of a lunch virtually superfluous! Between times, an open log fire allowed relaxed reading, which was easier in the public area than in the bedroom, which had many lights but very dark shades, so that more light would be a definite benefit in the rooms.
Very clever architecture and interior decoration have enabled a country house to be converted into a very comfortable hotel, whilst keeping the original atmosphere, something that the superb staff facilitate. Whilst never seen, there must be a brilliant manager and owners somewhere in the background!
We certainly expect to return before long!

The Grove, that grand dame of fine eating, drinking and understated luxury, set in the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside, perfect.

To celebrate a brace of family birthday’s we thought to try out the less formal Artisan rooms for a birthday lunch. It was, as usual, all very ‘ Grovey’- on trend flat Matt paint, the wall of woven hazel panels, and the usual efficient, but discrete service.

The menu, again a celebration of local produce, cooked perfectly. The charcuterie board ( from big boards) groaned with unctuous salami and chorizo, the smoked salmon, beautifully cured.

I was positively salivating for my main, the Grove classic, the lamb suet pudding - oh dear, now, I must say, it was a perfect suet pudding, it was just a small suet pudding, maybe this was due to the presentation, it was lost in the well of a pasta bowl, the supporting ‘ Le Cresseut’ mash was delightful, but there was no where to put it, except eat from from delivery pot, there was a smear of leek and a drop of jus!!, when what this salivating diner craved, was his pudding sitting centre stage on a white plate, room to ladle on creamy mash, soft yielding leeks, maybe some other seasonal Vegatables, and to crown the feast by pouring on a rich lamb jus from a jug of it!- what I had was perfect, but it could have been so much more!

Our lunch was a great celebration, set in the perfect place, and of course we will return, but in those famous words ‘ can I have more please,’ on a plate, with serving dishes and gravy boats!

This was our forth visit to The Grove and it is fabulous in every way. We were as always warmly greeted by the staff and after a short tour of the hotel we were shown to one of the Herb Cottages which was stunning.
Throughout our stay the staff couldn't have been more attentive which made our experience here amazing. The hotel is very tastefully decorated, clean, warm and cosy especially when the fires are lit.
We also booked to eat at the hotel in the evening and the food was incredible, again all the staff were brilliant!
We have recommended this hotel to our family and friends and we have already booked to return in November for a two night stay (as one night is never enough).

I only have good things to say about this hotel after completing our recent stay over the jubilee weekend. From start to finish, the staff at the hotel made us feel welcome without being obtrusive, and we really cannot fault anything. Having stayed at another 5* in Wales and being disappointed, The Grove is a good example of everything a hotel should get right. They catered for our dietary requirements which we did not even consider a possibility before it was suggested at the time of booking. I especially appreciated how the staff dealt with this in a way that felt completely natural. Because of this, we were able to enjoy the tasting menu to the full at The Fernery and our more relaxed meal at The Artisan the next day. I still reminisce about how delicious the food was. My husband who is not a fan of tasting menus thought the experience at Grove exceptional. Our room (Carrege) was cosy, full of light, airy and open. The hotel was thoughtful in stocking the mini bar and in leaving a small gift for my birthday in the room. Around the hotel, the staff leave you to it when you are perfectly fine by yourself, and approach you when needed; they strike the perfect balance. The staff were all lovely, however the two names I do know are John (at check-in) and Tilly (at restaurants); both of whom were so warm and lovely. I can be fussy with hotels and become annoyed by low-pressure showers, missed dusty corners and icks in the bathrooms. Not one here! The grounds are lovely, and the beautiful coast is a 30 min drive away. While we like to explore new places, if we wanted to come back to Wales, it would be The Grove without hesitation. A sincere thank you to all of the staff at The Grove (but especially John) for being so thoughtful, considerate, and warm.

You will definitely need a car to get around this area unless you plan to do very long walks from beach to beach. The hotel is not near a beach or a town. It is extremely unlikely that there will be anything like Uber but normal taxis can be arranged but will be quite expensive.

Yes, we do have certain rooms that we allow well behaved dogs to stay in. They are also welcome in the grounds and on the terraces but not in the restaurant. If you wish to stay with a dog, please book direct via phone or email so we can ensure we have availability in the dog friendly rooms. We look forward to welcoming you to the Grove.
