We had an amazing time!! The last day was the best day we have ever had fishing. Not just the best in Guatemala, like the best day my dad and I have ever shared on the water in our entire lives! We landed 13 sails and 13 mahi! Non stop action, great crew on the boat, and beautiful weather all went into making it a great trip! Thank you so much!
First time to Casa Vieja Lodge, but will not be the last visit. Three days of fishing on Rum Line with great crew who worked hard to put us on a lot of fish. We fly fished and conventional. We boarded 2 sails, hooked up another on fly, which is the way to do it.
Anyone wanting to tune your skills should come here. It’s a full day of excitement. The lodge is awesome, and their staff are wonderful. Anything you want or need and they are there to help. Food was delicious and hospitality was above any expectations. We fished the Rum Line, it was accommodating and the crew was very instructive. We had grand slams, mahi bites, marlin bites and all the sailfish bites you could want. Thank you to everyone Matt
My wife and I have traveled to various fishing lodges around the world -- from Zambia to Brazil to Mexico to Alaska -- but never an offshore operation, so we did not know precisely what to expect. Making it even more uncertain was the fact that we were joined by my nearly 80 year old non-angler parents. The service, facilities and accommodations proved to be exceptional, and the fishing spoke for itself -- 23 sailfish released on our first day on The Finest Kind. At that point we were playing with "house money," but our second day produced double digits again. On Day Three the water was very rough, so Captain Nicho recommended against making the long run to our best areas. He made some strategic moves and once again put us on sails, plus some beautiful dorado. Most impressive to me was the way that everyone treated my parents. I know that at some fishing locales the "Rambo" factor takes over and everyone keeps to themselves, but here other guests and every staff member went out of their way to make sure mom and dad were comfortable and having fun. That meant assisting them on and off the van, bringing dad a shrimp cocktail on night number three because he'd missed night two's dinner. Special recognition needs to go to The Finest Kind's mates -- Daniel and Tony -- they coached us on tactics, helped mom and dad on and off the boat, and finally convinced them to land some fish of their own. Mom's first fish of her life, a week before her 76th birthday, was a gorgeous sail. Anyone thinking about taking older/elderly friends and family or children should be assured that the staff takes their roles as teachers and protectors very seriously. Our biggest problem is that we figured that this was a once-in-a-lifetime event, we'll almost certainly be back soon. Our friends saw the Facebook pictures and absolutely freaked out. They'll surely be joining us. So glad we made this choice,…
My wife and I took a fishing adventure to Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala. Everything was top notch. An beautiful lodge, great food and drinks, friendly staff, and of course, great fishing. We were on the El Cadejo, a 35ft contender, with Captain Benji and his mate Sammy. Benji got onto the fish and Sammy was such a great teacher. We caught a striped marlin, as well as a number of sailfish, mahi, and yellowfin tuna. We also went inshore an caught multiple roosterfish. Overall, a world-class operation, a fantastic lodge, and great fishing destination. We are definitely going to return...hopefully, sooner rather than later :)
