My family and I stayed at Diamond D in late August 2020. It has been a family vacation experience we always spoke about. I chose Diamond D based on reviews and their affiliation with The Dude Ranchers Association and boy we were NOT disappointed. We felt an immediate connection to the other guests and staff. It was the perfect vacation to disconnect and try new experiences. Being family owned and operated, the friendliness and comradery of the staff created a vacation beyond our expectations.
My family and I visited the Diamond D this summer in July. While I do not possess the words to give the wonderful family that owns the ranch and its stunning location justice, I can simply say that all those “five-star” reviews you are reading are true and the pictures don’t lie. From the first greeting, the Demarest/Williams Clan welcomes you like old friends and candidly, it just gets better from there…We spent eight days at the ranch; each one better than the last, as we explored new country astride gentle & well trained horses, made new friends, and experienced a “once in a lifetime” trip. Our two horse-obsessed girls (8 & 6) were ecstatic as they cajoled us into taking ten horseback rides over seven full days and on top of all the other activities provided (shooting, archery, gold panning, crafts, etc). In between rides and while my wife and girls enjoyed the activities and socializing/playing with the other guests (as well as the infamous and adorable Dani & Johnnie), I was able to sneak out onto Loon Creek for some of, if not the best, fly-fishing of my life. I have never known a stream this size to produce the sheer numbers of big fish that Loon does. Even now, two months later, I’m still in disbelief over the quality of the fishing to be had on Loon Creek… Our accommodations consisted of a cabin down by the creek that was the perfect size for the four of us and most importantly, it was clean, the shower was hot and the beds were soft. Other than that, we spent hardly any time in the cabin between breakfast and bed, as there was simply too much to see and do... The staff was for the most part, very friendly and accommodating. We really lucked out and had Andrea as our lead wrangler for the first five days of our stay. She is like a “guest-star” who comes up and helps out when needed. She was such a good wrangler/coach/teacher for our kids and helped calm a nervous Mom who wasn’t really sure about this horseback thing (either for herself or our kids). Ashley was really nice and super engaging-really enjoyed her as well. Sarah brightened every morning and we never saw her without a smile while Brent (aka Sparkle) kept everything humming and was just generally a cool person to be around (he was also sent to come looking for us when we were a bit late arriving the first day- talk about a great first impression!)... The food was consistently good across the board. Both Amber (lemon chicken-favorite!) and Connie (Eggs Benny-favorite!) did a fabulous job not only cooking for the overall group of guests and staff but also in regards to my wife’s dietary and my kids’ allergy restrictions. They both went above and beyond to interact with my wife about different ideas they had and to make sure all would be happy and well fed…. Lastly, we decided towards the of our stay that “once in a lifetime” just wasn’t good enough so we re-booked for next year and if my family has their way, we’ll be booking for many years to come. If you are thinking about visiting, pull the trigger, you won’t be disappointed.…
We took our kids (7 and 9) to Diamond D Ranch for a week this summer and it was sublime. It's the perfect blend of modern, rustic and remote, with private cabins nestled above the river, horses wandering through the property on their way back to the stable (they get released each night to frolic in wilderness), fantastic dogs, great staff and meals, quiet galore, and the views are spectacular. We loved the scheduled activities, you can opt in or out, friendliness all around, and meeting people from all over the world. You can fly in or drive in (the last 20 miles of the drive is along a winding dirt road that gets a bit precarious but beautiful, plan that part to take 90 mins). The owners are amazing people, and they've designed the experience to have something for everyone—long and shorter wilderness horseback rides, swimming, fly fishing, panning for gold, archery, line dancing, arts and crafts. And lots of time to RELAX, unplug and unwind. If you're thinking about visiting, think no more, and make a reservation, you'll be so glad you did.…
I brought my mother in-law and 10 year old twin girls to Diamond D Ranch at the end of August. This was our first time visiting a dude ranch. The location was remote but had all of the comforts of home. We spent everyday outside enjoying the activities and disconnecting from everyday life. My girls met several other kids including Kara's daughters. They are missing their new friends and plan to see each other again soon. We spent several weeks this summer traveling to Mexico, Yellowstone NP, Zion NP, Glacier NP and Moab. When I asked my kids what their favorite vacation of the summer was this year, they didn't hesitate to say Diamond D Ranch. Before the end of the trip they asked me to book a week at the ranch for next summer! Thank you Diamond D for an amazing week!
The scenery is outstanding. The hosts, Linda, Tom, Dana, and Kara treated us like family members. The staff could not do enough for us. They welcomed us with open arms and were friendly, courteous, and helpful. Can's say enough positive about the staff. We stayed in a second floor suite with a porch that provided us with an awesome breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. The wranglers (Beth and Ashley) saw that we had great riding experiences on trails in the valley and surrounding mountains. The fly fishing is excellent in the pristine waters of Loon Creek and an adjacent pond. J. W., the flyfishing guide, knew his stuff! The food was outstanding. The ranch is "off the grid." They generate their electricity with a water powered generator. Had an excellent time. Note that this is a ranch, not a hotel.…
