This was the best hotel we have stayed at in a long time. Everything was new and refurbished. We were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the beds were, and what a nice breakfast selection there was. It was quiet for a great night of sleep. An added treat was eating at the restaurant next door, Farmhouse Barbecue. Employees at the hotel and the restaurant were friendly and efficient.

What a great experience! Very friendly ladies at night and in the morning as well. Had a single Queen room on the first floor, and even with rooms above me, it stayed relatively quiet in the hotel.
The room was a little cramped, but it was clean. Blackout blinds were awesome to keep me asleep all night, didn't wake up once. Apparently, there were HS sports teams staying here but everyone stayed quiet. I didn't hear lots of noise.
Ample breakfast options, including Jimmy Dean sausage biscuits, Golden Malted waffles, muffins, fruit, milk, orange juice, and cereal. It was nice to have a hotel waffle for the first time in years.
Take advantage of the 9:00-11:00 PM 'adults-only' hour for the pool and spa. You won't have to deal with kids, and it was peaceful to just get in the spa and relax for 15 min. after a long drive.

Also, make sure to know that there IS a $75.00 incidental fee that as long as you do not break anything in the room or outside the room, they will give it back to you a few days later as a credit to your bank account. I thought I paid $200.00+ for my room without knowing.

All in all, even with the incidental fee, I would still stay here again if I was in Sandpoint. It's a beautiful town.

Hello and thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed all of our amenities. On your next visit, please check availability for a double queen or king room, as those offer a great deal more space. Our single queen rooms are a value priced, economy room. We know they are a little tight, so we price them very competitively. Please come visit again soon. We'll keep the spas nice and warm for you.

This hotel provides great value with a location that is very convenient for those skiing at Schweitzer. The rooms are adequate, with somewhat limited storage space. The room was very clean, with fluffy towels and clean sheets and fairly comfortable beds. The walls are a bit thin. The buffet breakfast is less than many hotels offer in that there are very limited protein offerings (hard boiled eggs and pre-wrapped breakfast sandwiches), though they do have waffles, cereal, pastries and fruit. There were no whole grain offerings, The staff was wonderful - very helpful and friendly.

I loved everything including the welcome cookies and doggie treats, the super friendly reception staff, and the clean and quiet room. Also, when I checked out and drove away on my road trip I was only 22 minutes away when I got a call that the cleaners found a bag I forgot in the room. I'm so glad I was close enough to turn around and get it. I didn't use the pool but it looked very nice as well as the outside fire pit area. I really enjoyed my dinner at the Farmhouse Kitchen BBQ which was given as $30 credit with my stay. The first floor room was very convenient for my dog and my luggage (as were the luggage carts). The continental breakfast included many items (muffons, bagels, cereal, peanut butter, jam, yoghurt, premade English muffin sandwiches, apples and oranges, and even a waffle station.

I have stayed here 3 times now. Front desk has always been helpful and courteous. My rooms have been clean and sized well. I have stayed at the other three Ruby hotels in Spokane and they follow the same theme. All have great beds. This one is located near a good restaurant and the Ruby gives a large discount on meals there. When in Sandpoint again I will always stay here. Oh, and the price was so affordable. I believe I paid under $70.00. A really great affordable cozy place. The only dig on this place is the breakfast which is to be desired. The rest is great.

Last April, I wrote a review of this place and loved how quiet it was, the adults-only hot tub time, and the breakfast. Not much has changed on my second visit. The $89 winter special was a great bargain given that nearby hotels charge $30-40 more per night. DIRECTV was working and had a lot of channels, but I only used it to watch the late local news and nothing else.
The breakfast filled me up the next morning, and the lady at the desk was very nice, letting me know about conditions on the nearby Mickinnick Trail (which I hiked just after I checked out).
I have no problems continuing to keep Hotel Ruby as my go-to lodging in the Sandpoint area. Still keep in mind of the $75.00 incidental fee, as long as you don't damage the room, they should credit that back to your bank account within a few days.

I have to say I was so impressed! I used to live in the area & stayed for the first time here. My first night I had some really loud neighbors combined with an adjoining room with a door. I called the front desk that next morning and they moved me to a room a few doors down without an adjoining door without any hesitation, it made a huge difference and I slept like a baby the rest of the trip! I’m glad to see they’ll be adding refrigerators! I ended up having to move my check out up by one day due to a family circumstance, they were so kind to me during a hard time and only charged me for the nights I stayed rather than my original booking. This really is the best value and a perfect spot! Complimentary breakfast, indoor heated pool & hot tub, fire pit, dog friendly. I’ll definitely be staying here any time I’m in the area.

If you need to be in the Sandpoint/Ponderay area, this is a budget-friendly, high quality hotel. The location is excellent, the employees are friendly and helpful, and the room is clean and relatively spacious. It can be a bit noisy when loud people walk down the hall like they're at home, but this is a problem in many hotels that are much more expensive. The breakfast provided was surprisingly well rounded, high quality and not just junk food. I will stay here again if I am ever in the area.

Pros: Very clean room. Clean pool and hot tub facilities. This hotel is very classy and well kept while also reasonably priced. While we didn’t take advantage of their breakfast during the two nights we stayed there, their dining room is so attractive. It’s set up very welcoming, with a rustic charm (as is the entire hotel’s theme).

You can also order from one of two restaurants across the parking lot and right across the highway and go pick up your meal in 15-20 minutes to enjoy in your hotel room.

Con:
The particular receptionist that we checked in with and purchased snacks from later on (the first evening we arrived) greatly lacks customer service skills. She has dark hair with some blue in it, but I cannot remember her name.
Her attitude is all around is very unwelcoming and unpleasant. When we checked in with her she seemed half asleep and as if she’d rather be anywhere but where she was at that moment. And later on, although I was there alone with my four young children who were all being well behaved, she oddly took annoyance with me while we were purchasing snacks that same evening. We quietly placed all of our items on the front desk and waited patiently as she finished up speaking to another customer on the phone, and I asked, “will you be able to charge our room for all this?” once she had hung up. This is because at a previous hotel we stayed at, they asked that we pay for toiletries and goods with cash only. But for some reason she thought that I was pressuring her to hurry up and ring up our items and said, “YES. I will. Just give me a minute ok??” To which I was totally confused by her irritation and said, “oh I’m sorry, I just meant… are we able to charge it to our room or do we need to use cash?” and she responded again with annoyance and said “yeah you can charge your room ...” as if I was asking a very invalid question. Not once making eye contact with me. Then after she apparently had rung up all of our items… she said nothing, so I said, “did they all get rung up? Are we good?” and she said “yeah…” with this odd annoyance again. Maybe management can speak to her about acting more positive and not making customers feel that they are burdening her. (?)

I normally wouldn’t even post reviews but, it seems so odd to me that someone would be put in customer service who acts like this.

A newer property among the expansion of stores and services a couple miles to the north of Sandpoint.
Room is small, but adequate with all the essentials: good bed, wifi, lots of electrical/usb ports, easy low step-in shower. No table nor chairs, but a tractor seat style stool on rollers at the small counter and a cushioned seat on the ledge in front of the window. Free pool table in the lobby was fun. Breakfast was better than many with waffles, yogurt, microwavable sausage/egg sandwiches, cereal, bagels/muffins, lots of seating. Room soundproofing a little light allowing some hallway and neighbor noise. Food credit for Farmhouse BBQ, short walk across hotel parking area, a great bonus for midweek stays. We'd definitely stay here again.

Answer from Amy M
Spokane, Washington12 contributions
It is not within walking distance to a nice restaurant. There is a Starbucks, a McDonalds and a Subway nearby. The hotel is in Ponderay, a close suburb of Sandpoint. You will want to drive the 5-7 minutes to Sandpoint to enjoy nice restaurants. Highly recommend the Pend O'reille Winery for great food and a classy dinner out. Across the street is McDuff's Brewery if beer is more to your liking. There is also a good Thai restaurant near there.

The restaurant and lounge are well on their way to being completed. Foundation has been poured and the walls have been pre-fabricated. We are expecting it to be finished by December with the opening most likely in January 2017.
