I had the exceptional opportunity to stay at this home. Every room is clean, and has a nostalgic feel, with furniture that complements the time period and experience. I had a walk-through of each room. You could appreciate the special care and effort the owners have put into the home to preserve the Haight family heritage. The care and beauty of the outside of the home and the property are as pleasing as the inside. Well done!
What an incredible treasure! Came to Oakley for a family reunion at a camp facility nearby. Not being in the mood to camp, the Haight Home B&B was the first option to pop up on our Google search, so we called. We were pleasantly surprised by the affordability and booked immediately. We still had quite a long drive ahead of us creating a late arrival, but the Manager, Amie, was more than accommodating. She made a special effort to ask about our food and allergy preferences. We eat pretty healthy. Veggies and Gluten Free for breakfast? No problem! Our only regret was not capturing photos of the delightful meals and their visual presentations each day. We were so relaxed we never thought to even reach for our phones during our stay. The bed was INCREDIBLY comfortable. More than memory foam, hard to describe: PERFECT. We settled in each night to deep deep sleep. Our 2nd night we slept through until nearly noon missing half-day activities at the reunion but we were fine with that. The atmosphere is summarized in one word: PEACEFUL. We plan to return as often as we can! Step back in time to experience pure rest and comfort at this delightful gem. …
We had hiked City of Rocks and had booked here as it was close. We did not expect such a beautiful house and yard, a wonderful host and a quaint, happy, small town. We had a wonderful time, eating at the local cafe and watching kids play baseball at the town park!
I came to Oakley after visiting the City of Rocks and Castle Rocks state park. This home belonged to the Haight family and was built in 1896. It has been remodeled on the inside, but has furniture from that time period. I had walked around the outside of the home just to see what it was like, and when I got back to the front the owner asked if I would like to see the inside. This home is special to me because Elder David B. Haight grew up here with his family. He was an apostle for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until 2004 when he passed away. His father built this home and reminds me of so many amazing pioneer homes built as they moved out west. Basically if you were to stay here it would be renting the entire home and there is another building in the back that they built which is used as extra rooms for people to stay. It is used for weddings, receptions, family reunions for a small family. The yard is beautiful as well as the home.…
We had the opportunity to spend the night in this beautiful quaint b&b. We actually had the whole place to ourselves. The staff were friendly and went beyond and above what was expected. Looking forward to our next visit.
This adorable old home has been lovingly restored and tastefully decorated so that you actually can feel the 19th century era around you. The high ceilings with transom windows above, let light and air move throughout the house and add such a charming touch! It was like staying in a museum with antique furnishings and heritage touches. The B&B manager who attended us was kind and accommodating though he was filling in while his wife was away and it really wasn't his forte. The Haight Home B&B hasn't been in business long and the owners don't run it though I believe they furnished it. It was terribly over priced for its remote location with few services and no private bathroom. I personally don't like sharing a bathroom with strangers so that was not to my liking and if you must share with strangers then robes are usually provided. There weren't any. There were also no cups in either the rooms or bathroom so there was no way to get a drink of water unless you invaded the kitchen and scrambled through the private cupboards for a paper cup, something we're not comfortable doing. The bath towels were thick and luxurious in a gorgeous white marble bathroom with marble shower and a claw foot tub but the bed linens were terrible and not breathable. The sheets are cheap polyester with narrow corners so that the minute you sat on the bed they popped off. By morning they were gathered near the center of the bed. The budget pillows felt like an overinflated balloon covered in the same thin polyester. We had a terrible night's sleep trying to make it comfortable and I finally threw the pillow off the bed altogether. A bed and breakfast needs fine linens and a fabulous breakfast. Those are the two essentials to making my stay at least, comfortable. Breakfast was poorly lacking though I appreciated that the regular manager was not there. We had simple scrambled eggs the first day but it didn't come with bacon, sausage or any addition except two slices of store bought brown toast and a mellon medley from the local grocery store. The second day we were offered only one waffle, again with no bacon or meat of any kind, and the mellon bowl. The syrup was not real maple syrup but they had three flavors; imitation pancake syrup and two fruit flavored. We received a bottle of sparkling cider when we arrived and greatly appreciated that. It was a nice touch so I was hoping for the service to continue appropriately. I was also disappointed and a little dismayed that they don't have Wifi in this day and age. I run a business and needed to keep in touch while away from home. The hospitality industry requires thinking of the guest and what they need and enjoy to make their stay special, not just the look of the accommodation from an esthetic point of view. It could really be something with some special touches but it isn't there yet. I hope they make it because the house really is lovely.…
