Detailed Reviews
We just had our son's wedding at Elkins, and I was quite concerned about the remote location and rustic cabins in winter. Guests arrived from all over the country and found Elkins to be a special experience. Cabins were well stocked, clean and comfortable. Since guests stayed two nights, people were able to get excellent breakfast each day, snowshoe/tour area, or just hang out in their cabin with a warm fire in the fireplace enjoying their own food and drink. Wedding was beautiful, with couple married outside by the lake and mountains as their backdrop. Restaurant was closed for our private event, reception dinner was delicious and we danced and partied the night away! Guests told us it was one of their favorite weddings. Thanks Elkins for a great time!

I visited this beautiful resort twice: first in October 2020 and then in September 2021. The location on Priest Lake is stunning. Each morning, I woke up early to watch the sun rise on the lake while I had coffee, and I sat and watched the sunset at night. The cabins are old, quaint and cozy and very clean. The furniture is in good shape and the beds are comfortable. The kitchens have everything you need to prepare meals. Some appliances are dated. The refrigerator in my cabin hummed loudly and the heating in my bedroom ticked at night. I cooked my own food, so can't comment on the restaurant.
The location is great. You can walk to a lakeshore hike right from the cabins and there are many other lovely hikes nearby. Also, it is a great spot for boaters. There are lots of areas for playing and everything is set up for families and groups to enjoy.
The resort is advertised as a wedding venue, and that it is. If you're looking for quiet, make sure you understand what this means before booking. When I visited during the week and during COVID in 2020, the resort was incredibly peaceful. When I visited in 2021 to do the Priest Lake Half Marathon, there was a large wedding which completely took over the resort. I was next to Chimney Rock, a massive cabin where several members of the wedding party were staying. Each night, they partied very loudly (and understandably) until 2 or 3 AM. On the night of the wedding, dance music and enthusiastic shouting pounded throughout the resort until after midnight. I asked the front desk staff what I might do about the noise from my neighbors in the cabin next door, and they told me I could go ask them to be quiet. As my neighbors were there to celebrate, and were also intoxicated, I didn't feel comfortable doing that.
Elkins is in an amazing location and is a great wedding venue. If you want to enjoy a peaceful stay, make sure to visit when there is no wedding going on.

Location, location, location. We've been visiting Priest Lake for decades, and for a time spet a week each summer in our tent trailer at the adjacent Forest Service Reeder Bay campground. Elkins was a destihnation for ice cream bars from the little store and an occasional lunch in the restaurant. Then we got older, as did our granddaughter camping partner, we sold the trailer, and missed our visits to the lake.
Several years ago we decided to go for broke and rent a cabin at Elkins, not an inexpensive proposition. But we thought it was worth it and lengthened our stays from a few days to a week...now the last full week of August.
Our home away from home has become Cabin 8, perfect for the two of us with its wood burning fireplace, king bed, and location alongside the rushing Reeder Creek. No lake view though; instead we have the soothing sound of the water cascading over the rocks down toward the bay. And a deck that overlooks the creek, complete with picnic table, chairs, and a gas grill.
A couple of times we rented watercraft available at the marina, kayaks and paddleboards. We've sat on the lodge lawn in red Adirondack chairs sipping chilled drinks and snacking on appetizers. And we've had dinner at the restaurant.
Over the years we've had a few back experiences with the restaurant and the adjacent bar but all in all the food and service is good to excellent though not always the latter.
The few times we've had a maintenance or housekeeping issue the staff promptly took care of it, were friendly, and campetant.
We just returned from this year's stay, and next year's reservation is made.

I will start with the fact that we have stayed here several times, the mountains and lake are beautiful.
My problem this time however is that I feel very strongly that we were ripped off.
When you reserve a cabin with 2 bedrooms you are already charged more for a 2 bedroom than a 1 bedroom cabin.
Originally our son, his wife and grandson were to join us but our little grandson got sick with Covid. We did not know this until just 3 days ahead of our stay and I told the woman at the front desk this and asked to have the extra person charge removed as they were not coming. She was rude and said no and I had to let them know 14 days ahead. I said that was impossible.
As for the cabin we had this time (never been in this one before) it needed a deep cleaning plus maintenance as the back door lock did not stay locked and one could see the outside through the logs.
Other issues with this cabin #20 was in the shower, you either got scalding hot water or cold with no nice middle, then a high pitched squealing sound coming out of it.
Huge problem was the lack of sleep for 3 days as the bed we had to sleep in was so uncomfortable......I was never so glad to get home.
One last thing I did not appreciate was having to unload a dishwasher when I first arrived in a cabin we were paying very close to $400 a night.
I asked again at check-out to have the extra people charge removed and again was told no. I re-asked only to give them one more chance to make it right and they did not.
If one thinks about it the second bed was never used/slept in and only 2 towels were used for our 3 day stay as the shower was horrible. So why were we charged the extra fee? So bad on their part.
We will not be staying here again.

Have been going there for years, and this year SUCKED! For the amount of money you spend you shouldn’t have to listen to drunk , obnoxious loud employees dropping the “F” bomb every 5 seconds sitting at the bar after working their shift somewhere on the property, when your trying to enjoy your hard earned $ and have a relaxing time. The bartender kinda tried to keep it down but wasn’t successful at all. Next was dinner. The waitress we had didn’t show up for a solid 15 minutes after we were seated, she had the attitude that we were bothering her and acted as if she had better things to do. After that I think we only saw her one other time and that was When she was picking up our tab. The entire dinner the bus boy and hostess took care of us.once the food was served( Spare Ribs) it had so much Demi Glaze on it that it was like eating a bowl of teriyaki soup. I was completely shocked at the quality and I’ve always raved about how good the food was,The drinks we ordered were sent back because they tasted like crap and then the second time around they didn’t remember the garnish for either drink.. I know places have “ OFF” days and that’s understandable, but when these things are happening over multiple days and at a different times, I’m thinking there is a bigger issue.. I never ever normally write any kind of reviews good or bad , but I just couldn’t let this one pass. I really hope this falls on the right desk and someone does something to fix it ..

The Elkins restaurant has really good food and service! I had the bacon burger and it was delicious. The servers are excellent too. However, I think this resort has some inequitable practices in the way it treats its female staff. I have heard that they force the women to clean/do housekeeping for the cabins yet do not hold the male servers to the same expectation. That is the only reason I have left 4 stars instead of 5. I think these sexist policies need to be changed.

The cabin was clean, the bathroom was reasonably modern, the linens were all clean and fresh. The beds were reasonably comfortable. They do provide plenty of firewood, but the cabin was still cold.
There were no extra blankets, and the heater was enclosed in a plastic case so that it could not be raised when we were cold.
Overall, the value for the money is moderate. The cabins are VERY expensive even in the off season. There is a $75 early check in fee, and a several very high 'extra' fees.

Thank you for your feedback. The case on heating is only to protect the heating system. It is temperamental and can stop running if turned too high or low. We have added a notice to the case to let staff know and we are happy to adjust it for guests. And new beds are ordered for the cabin you stayed in.

We've been spending time at Elkins every year since we stopped camping at the adjacent Forest Service campground. This year we've had two visits (February and May for 3 nights) and have a week coming up in August.
We always stay in Cabin 8, a remodeled unit at the end of the road along Reeder Creek. There's a deck overlooking the creek and the sleeping area window is just above it so we can go to sleep with the window open and the sound of rushing water.
Amenities include a fireplace with all the wood we could ever burn, walk-in tiled shower, king-size bed and a full kitchen. It sleeps 4 if the futon is used. The cabin has always been clean. On the last trip friends stayed in a Cabin 27 overlooking the lake and it was equally as nice (though no fireplace).
The restaurant food is very good. There's food and beverage service on the front lawn. There's a small store with limited food items and souvenirs. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
Though it's a resort, don't expect it to be fancy and upscale. It's rustic, befitting the absolutely stunning location on Reeder Bay.

We were so excited to spend our 10-year anniversary at Elkins and they did not disappoint. The lakeside setting and mountain views are absolutely breathtaking, the cabins are cozy, clean, quiet, well maintained and comfortably appointed. Their staff are so professional and friendly, they made us feel welcome. And the restaurant! One of the best dining experiences we've had in a very long time -- it was just perfection. We can't wait to go back and spend more time there for our next vacation.

We have been here 3 times reciently and visited for years. First week of Sept. Current owners just keep improving the Resort. Cabins are period style and comfortable. Well maintained. Full amenties, Lodging, marina, great restaurant. Not so modern as others on the Lake which makes it a classic "Lake Cabin" feel. Long beach area with the Red Chairs. Every employee we met was friendly and helpfull. Already booked for 2022. Staff said they have been full all summer 2021 and also have nearly full winter reservations.

Yes you just have to pay an extra fee for your pet. Pretty sure it is $25 more each night at least that is what I remember from our stay last fall.
Mr. Bubbles our dog loved the fireplace in our cabin!
