Arriving by water taxi we soon realised that we were in safe hands, both for health and comfort. Friendly and efficient service from all staff. Couldn't fault the porterage and check-in. The room was large (especially by Venetian proportions), airy and quiet. We had a 6th floor room with a balcony from where we could see the sandy beach and sea, but at no time felt overlooked. All amenities were at hand, including a good-sized bathroom with Carthusia toiletries (which are gorgeous). The rain-shower in the bath had excellent pressure and easy-to-use controls. If I was to be really, really picky I would say that a couple more power points in the room would have been good. Otherwise a lovely retreat from sunning and sightseeing. The bars are lovely (stylish art deco cocktail lounge and more informal beach-side bar) and the staff friendly, courteous, and have a good sense of when to engage you and when to leave you alone. Food is available at both, from some extremely nice cicchetti to salads, sandwiches and pasta. It is probably worth mentioning now that all food and drink is very expensive. This may be standard for Venice 5*, so you have to be able to just put the cost aside and enjoy it. Breakfast was very cleverly done, considering the current situation. A full buffet was available, but you wore a mask and a staff member walked round with you serving everything. It was great for us as we always went early and never had to wait long to be served. Dinner was lovely: indoors or out, 5* food and service. Staying at the Excelsior, it is so nice to enjoy the quiet bougainvillea-lined canals and peace of the Lido, with the hotel’s free shuttle boat service to St Marks giving you ready access to the city. To sum up, it was an absolute pleasure to enjoy top quality surroundings and service delivered without a shred of stiffness or stuffiness.…
I came to Venice for a Film Premier and the festival and pleasantly surprised by the incredible experience I had at this hotel and bar which became the highlight very quickly. From Covid restrictions being taking seriously by the wonderful and charming Anna too the excellent service of the the staff who make you feel like it’s home - Umberto & Raffaele deliver top tier five star quality and warmth. Bravo Tony bravo!
For such a luxurious and expensive hotel service could be muuuuch better. If you don't fulfill your guests' requests and can't fix problems because of being fully occupied - why don't you just take care of hiring more people during the festival to be able to take a good care of your guests who pay a lot of money for staying at your hotel just because the festival takes place there and they have no choice other than staying at your hotel?! Now it looks to me like you take care only about your external appearance, but a hotel isn't only about all this cheap luxury, it's all about good service and satisfied guests, but with your ignorant attitude it's definitely not the place where I'd come back again. Would never recommend it to anyone for sure.
We stay at the Excelsior every summer and never regret returning. This old lady is unparalleled for luxury, elegance, location and history and over the last decade has not once let us down. The present pandemic has created challenges for the management and staff but they have responded brilliantly and we felt far safer here than in the UK. Unfortunately this year we lost our money and booking when a UK website we usually book through went into liquidation due to Covid-19. Mr. Paini from the management team of The Excelsior was a godsend and reinstated our booking quickly and efficiently - for which we will be eternally grateful. Our annual stays at the Excelsior are treasured but they are always made more special by Susanna whose warm hospitality is incredible and she deserves our particular gratitude. Thank you everyone at the Excelsior. Ci vediamo l'anno prossimo!…
This is a quintessentially Italian hotel. You really feel like you are in Venice (but not in Venice). The hotel grounds are wonderful, especially sitting on the terrace in the evening. The staff were very polite and friendly. It felt extra safe during covid and both staff and guests were keeping to the rules! The breakfast was amazing (apart from the wasps)! The room view was incredible over the lido, but they really need an urgent upgrade. It's spotlessly clean, but there are bits of skirting missing, faded tiles/taps etc. The whole experience was so wonderful though you do let this bit pass! We will certainly return but would love the rooms to be a bit more up to scratch! It felt like luxury but perfect to bring small kids to also.
