Exquisite beachfront resort in Venice. I got booked here because it was the only place COSTCO had left in Venice- high end and expensive but worth every cent. The breakfast was beyond fabulous! It is NOT in the main city proper- this is a outer island. Hotel provides a private shuttle boat daily to/from San Marco. You must get here to LIDO island yourself with luggage-I used the public waterbus to Santa Maria Elisabetta. Then a taxi to the hotel. The hotel will get you with a private water taxi but it's expensive. All the photos you see of this palace hotel online are accurate-however I will warn that the beach is not directly accessible after mid September as they secure the shoreline for winter storm season. It is on the Adriatic Sea. Sunrise is lovely! My room was quiet and comfortable. Lobby decor is outstanding. Truly one of the great Westin properties!

Was there for a site visit and meeting with organizing committee for conference in April 2024. Due to delayed flight I came in at 0100 am. The staff did a great job make me feel welcome. In the room I found a spontaneous late dinner snack and cheese plate as they expected the meal on the airplane wouldn’t be appropriate. After a great (unfortunately short) night sleep, a quick but lovely breakfast and productive meeting I had to leave again. Can’t wait to return in April for the conference. A great hotel with great staff

A lovely hotel, if a little faded at the edges. Friendly helpful staff, a beautiful pool and a great gym. The PT (Jean-Marc) there is excellent. Very knowledgable, helpful and pushes you along with great skill & provided foc!! Breakfast was good, but could do with a few more healthy options. Unfortunately everything in the hotel is charged at a fantastically high rate, some examples: cup of coffee/tea €6 each, a small bottle of beer €11 & a chicken chopped salad €26. In some ways it spoils the stay as you become very aware of the prices. The free water shuttle to Venice is a great service. We were lucky with the weather and overall enjoyed our stay of four nights.

A very nice hotel. Some of the restaurants and bars had been closed for the season. Our room was very nice and clean .I picked Venice view so we could see the lights at night. We ate at the Blue bar mostly because there was nothing on the menu of the main restaurant that I would eat. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Had to be 30 feet in length with a large variety of food.

This hotel was absolutely stunning in every way. The rooms have a moorish theme that feels a bit outdated, but it’s spacious and comfortable. Roberta, the duty manager was an amazing human. She showed us all the places we needed to see in Venice and mapped it out for us. All the staff went above and beyond (minus the fact that my sunglasses went missing from my room unexplained, that was disappointing). We arrived a day after the Venice Film Festival has finished so it was very quiet. We had the beach to ourselves, the sea was clean and amazingly refreshing with gorgeous sunrise views. The Blue Bar had food available all day and their Tiramisu was to die for. The pool area was clean and nice but it closed early (at 6pm I believe). The breakfast buffet was divine and the hotel was grand and beautiful. Note that the hotel offers complimentary shuttles to Venice and from Venice, however not if you have luggage. Only if you’re doing a day trip to the city. If you are taking luggage to head to the train station or airport, you need to book a private water taxi (approx €90). Worth it though…only about 20 mins to the train station and the hotel will arrange it for you. You can also take public ferries but they are slower and packed with people.

Americans stay away from this hotel. From the minute we entered the property we were followed and questioned if we were staying at the hotel. Getting in the water taxi today I was the only one asked for my guest card and the other four people were not. I am guessing I was being judged partly on my age and how I dressed. The vast majority of guests are elderly Europeans and this is not a friendly group. The food is four times more expensive than food one can get 2-3 blocks away or in Venice. Skip this place….plenty of other hotels that will take your money and respect you at the same time.

None of the things that downgraded the rating of this hotel are life-threatening but are unacceptable for a hotel that fancies itself a great hotel. It simply is not. There are many things to like - beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurant, great beach, free shuttle to mainland Venice. However, the service of the rooms is incompetent, the service staff is poorly trained, and the management simply doesn’t care. What we experienced was similar to what other hotel guests told us about their experience. And a long time Venice resident shared with us that the Excelsior is famous for bad service. To be specific: On arrival, no one met us at the dock; helped us with our luggage or escorted us to our room; there was a big silverfish on the bed; the toilet paper roll almost empty (we complained but after a few days it was empty and not replaced again; we sat at the terrace at 12:20AM for a nightcap and though waiters were passing by no one made any effort to serve us (another couple staying there had the same experience); we opened a bottle of wine from the room refrigerator and it was undrinkable and while the manager said she would replace it and not charge us (that one was true) - however, neither the bottle, the glasses, the cork, or coverings were ever removed from the room; The coffee for the machine in the room was not refreshed and we called and were told that after two days you to 15 Euros per day for coffee no matter how long you stay - incredibly cheap; we stayed three nights and had only one soap (other guests who stayed 4 nights had the same experience); our shampoo and conditioner were removed and never replaced.

We concluded that it is impossible to give this hotel 5 stars – and we cannot imagine how they are there except that it’s Italy after all. While there are many things to like, beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurant, great beach, free shuttle to mainland Venice. However, the service of the rooms is incompetent, the service staff is poorly trained, and the management simply doesn’t care. For a hotel that claims to be top – it simply is not close. What we experienced was similar to what other hotel guests told us about their experience. And a long time Venice resident shared with us that the Excelsior is famous for bad service. Specifically, • Arrival at hotel: We paid for a very expensive hotel boat from the airport. No one met us at the dock or helped us with our luggage and no one escorted us to our room. • There was a big silverfish on the bed. The manager stated that it was because we left our door to the balcony open – on the 6th floor? • The toilet paper roll almost empty. We pointed out to the manager that even in the lowest hotel (we’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels) this has never happened. She noted this but a few days later it happened again – passive aggressive behavior from the staff? • There were very few electric plugs, and some didn’t work. If you need to charge something look elsewhere. Clearly not for businesspeople. • We sat at the terrace at 12:20AM for a nightcap and though waiters were passing by no one made any effort to serve us. Finally, after 30 minutes I went to the bar only to be told that it was closed. Another couple staying there had the same experience. • We opened a bottle of wine from the room refrigerator and it was undrinkable. The manager said she would replace it and not charge us (that one was true). However, neither the bottle, the glasses, the cork, or coverings were ever removed from the room – passive aggressive behavior again? • The coffee for the machine in the room was not refreshed. When we called about this we were told that after two days you had to pay 15 Euros per day for coffee no matter how long you stayed. Our complaint to the manager was met with “it is a management decision”. Our response was it is incredibly cheap and makes the hotel look like low life money grabbers. She said she would bring it up with management. • We stayed three nights but had only one soap. Other guests who stayed 4 nights had the same experience. • Our shampoo and conditioner were never refreshed and were removed from the bathtub without being replaced. OK, none of these are life threatening but just too many rough edges for a hotel that claims to be top tier.

Our room is lovely as is the hotel. Would recommend not to eat at any of the restaurants. We ordered pizza at lunch, it came an hour later. Had dinner at the fine dining restaurant. We turned back the pasta. Because it was cold, after another 20 minutes the second dish was also cold. They offered to bring another dish it was 2 hours and all we had was a salad. Walked out.

Our sixth time back. Sadly not what it used to be. Check in was good, unfortunatly we were given one of the rooms with a tree blocking the sea view. We payed for sea-view, luckilly awailable rooms so we actually got the view. Downside, carpet room. The carpet is stained and you can feel the room is dirty. Black spots in the shower and the water flood over. Old rooms. Cleening is not good, always leaving glass behind even tho we sat the dirty glasses together on the bench. Stood there for many days, had to put it in the hallway. Not new glasses the next day. Happened many times. Places to eat. Most of the same food every place(except evening restaurant). Different prices on the same dish depends on where you eat. Fantastic staff in the pool bar. They said «we are here for you». Not the same feeling elswere sadly. Dont know what have happened in the blue bar. Poor guy serving us did not know how to open a bottle of wine and did not understand english. Manager just letting him make a fool of himselfe not helping out/teach him how to be a waiter. Its okay to pay the prices, but the service and drinks/food should then be good. We stayed for 12 days, payed 9 800 euro. Lunch each day was about 160 euro. They only have four bottles of wines (4 rose, 4 whit etc). We askes for a bigger winelist, which they have, but would not give us. Strange when staying so long. Again, felt like we were there for them, not that the staff were there for us. Tip, purchase water in the tobacco shop across the hotel. Walk further for delicios homemade gelatio. Also, many good restaurants in lido, better food and prices than the hotel. Pool. Should have been sunchairs and adults area where the daybeds are(like some years ago). Birds bathing in the pool. Lots of kids. Good lifeguard telling them not to play footbal ans jump in water. Feels busy laying there. And also, SO dirty in the pool. I dont believe they even clean it. Sadly not what it used to be. Its good that there will be opening another hotel just a 10 minutes walk away, even if that is also owned by british stocks.. We will try Marriot next time.
