I live in the area but had not visited the ranch before. I wanted to take some family members on a horseback ride and made a reservation with them. The ride was the real deal. I have been on rides at other places in the U.S. On those occassions the trails were as wide as a dirt road. Not so on this ride. We went places were there were no visible trails. It really gave you the sense of adventure. The young women who were our guides were very friendly and easy to talk with as we rode. Someone suggested I should bring my Granddaughter to the breakfast on the ranch because she couldn't go on the ride being she was only 6. We did go back with her for the breakfast. Terri couldn't have been a better host. She spent more time with my Granddaughter than I expected. Letting her give treats to the pigs, goats, horses, duck, sheep and chickens. I was impressed with her patience. She took the time to answer all her questions and there were many. The food was to die for too. Can't wait for more company next summer to ride again. Linda W.

This was our first bed & breakfast and boy were we pleased! Terry makes everyone feel like they're at home with her friendly style and warm personality. The rooms are nice (and quiet) but the hospitality was the high point of our stay. Terry makes a great breakfast everyday, with mostly home-made ingredients and everything farm-fresh and delicious. The lodge is an easy drive south out of Grangeville, so don't let a few miles of distance scare you away - stay here once and you'll never go back to Motels. All in all a great and relaxing experience staying at Whitebird Summit Lodge.

Terry and Frank made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The property is rustic and quiet. The trail ride had some great views of the hills and valleys. there many animal on site and much wildlife in the area. Breakfast everyday was home made and great for all tastes.

This is a hunting lodge. Sounds like from other reviews families and hunters love it. Not for me. The kitchen was dirty, the carpet in our room looked dirty and stained. We killed 8 spiders in our room in just one day. The bathroom was clean. Things to do are great and the hosts are very nice. I just am more comfortable with clean.

We always strive to have the best atmosphere and accomadations at our lodge. In the past year we have upgraded many amenities in the lodge. This particular room has been totally remodeled with new carpeting, bedding and added futon to the room. Since the remodeling this room is one of our most requested rooms as it is one of our larger rooms, bright and with the private patio. Other rooms have also been upgraded with new carpeting and bedding. The Kitchen floor has new tile and we have added an indoor pool with deck with a fantastic view. You can see that our guests love what we have to offer here at the lodge. Thank you for your honesty.

This is not a lodge in any sense of the word. We arrived after six hours of driving, to check in at 3:15 pm, and rang and rang. (Mind, we reserved the Wisconsin room in February, 2013.)

Waited for someone to answer. Just as we were ready to leave, someone ( not the proprietor) answered, and mentioned our patio room had been changed due to the goats outside the room in the yard. The substitute room was in a back corner. No windows. A substitute A/C, bunkbeds, and dingy brown carpet. Yuck.

Finally, a phone call notifying us of a room change ahead of time would have been appreciated.
Now, I have a bad impression of any Idaho B&B. Any comments from the owner are not valid in defending a dated rathole.

Room Tip: Stay away. Switch arroyo for no obvious reason. If you like dated 70s decor, great. Photos do not...

I apologize for the change in rooms. We only wished you would have stated your concerns when you were at the lodge. Your review is some what misleading as you did not stay with us , you would have no idea what kind of service you would have recieved. If I would have known you would have been so concerned with the change in rooms we would have been able to put you in a differant room. With the unusal warm tempertures this past week we had to make a few changes with our guests. The room you are speaking of held one queen bed and three twin beds, one of our larger rooms with a private room air conditioner. With a pet in the room I needed to make sure I had you in a room with airconditioning as not all of our rooms have air and the Wisconsin room was one of the rooms that did not have air.

This accommodation did not suit my standards. The room was okay just had a few spiders but most unappealing were the many animals displayed on the walls. This accommodation was part of a tour. Owners were nice. Would not stay there again.

Our bed and breakfast is filled with many taxidermy displays from all over the world. We have been very fotrunate to have traveled to many rare and exotic places. Our website shows many of these displays and we welcome our guests to ask questions and learn about the many animals and what their habitat is like and what land they come from. We all strive to do our best with our accomadations and our disappointed that you were not completely satisfied. With the room on the lower level with an outside private patio it is hard for us to control what pesky bug might find it way through the patio screen door. I hope your ride through Idaho was perfect!

This B & B Lodge provides the best in an Idaho Experience. The location is rural but the hospitality and warmth are as good as you will find anywhere. The lodge provides many options for activity, i.e. horseback riding, hiking, but it also provides the option to just enjoy life in a gorgeous mountain setting. Terri's breakfasts and dinners were really something special - absolutely delicious and very homemade. You can't go wrong with a stay at Whitebird Summit Lodge.

The best of everything? You bet! We thoroughly enjoyed our seven days on the top of the summit. Wonderful accommodations, great food, fabulous views, and outgoing hosts. Frank and Terri are truely the best. They make you feel welcomed and at ease. They catered to our family like we were part of theirs. Our activities included horseback rides on winding trails that started right from the Lodge; whitewater rafting on the Salmon River; feeding goats, chickens, horses, and hummingbirds right out of our hands; and eating deliciously prepared meals. The rooms each have a unique theme and are very comfortable. Our stay at White Bird Summit was best vacation our family has ever had.

While this lodge is technically a bed and breakfast, it is not your typical East Coast lace curtain B&B. Frank and Terri are globe-trotting big game hunters and retired hunting outfitters, as the dozens of exotic game heads on the wall and beautifully stuffed and displayed animals in the main lodge area demonstrate. They are also outstanding hosts who transcend the professional faux-friendly attitude that some B&B operators have and make you feel totally at ease -- like you have known them for years. They are truly welcoming, laid back people. Our room was fine but a bit small...suggest that you consider one of the rooms with a little patio outside. They have horses for trail rides and all kinds of farm animals for the enjoyment of kids of all ages. Frank specializes in self-depreciating hunting and travel stories while Terri, a travel professional in a former life, can fix you up with local adventure tours and onward travel. Highly recommend.

Our family had a very pleasant stay here a week or so ago. We had gone rafting and our truck broke down right as we reached White Bird (Hoots did a fabulous job repairing it). Frank came right down, picked us up, and drove us back down the next day to retrieve the truck. He did not charge us extra for that and had a great attitude about it. We needed to reschedule our horse ride due to the change in schedule and that was no problem. They tried very hard to meet our needs and it helped to make our stay relaxing.

There are a lot of animals around and the lodge is a very interesting place to stay. Choices in Grangeville are limited and this is definitely worth a stop!

We do not have any animals at this time and did not observe any guest pets during our stay. I would just give them a call and ask.
