Detailed Reviews
My husband and our two children stayed for a week at MacDonalds Resort in August. We booked in late for the busy summer season, but were able to stay in two cabins and Gary, his family and the staff made the transition seamless. Both cabins were clean and had everything we needed. Whatever we couldn't pack (as we flew in) was available at the MacDonalds Marina store. We rented a pontoon boat for one of our days and I've never seen such a clean well maintained rental boat (and we rent Duffy's quite a bit in Newport Beach Harbor). They have duck food available in the store for 50 cents and feeding the ducks was a highlight for my little ones. I can't say enough about the hospitality and genuine kindness we felt from start to finish. Truly a magical place and wonderful experience!!

Our family has enjoyed MacDonald’s Resort and their unequaled hospitality for many years. The MacDonald family and their employees have made every visit a memorable experience. They have shown us that they will do whatever it takes to make our stays with them fun and enjoyable. Their lake view cabins are immaculate and provide spectacular views of the lake. Whether we are fishing from one of the docks, sitting in one of the comfy chairs outside their floating store or out in a kayak or fishing boat, we are relaxed and enjoying ourselves. For our family, this is a truly unique place that’s almost like going back in time when life seemed simpler and everyone treated you like family. We look forward to visiting again soon.

We LOVED the resort, the people and the cabin. We also LOVED the fact that we had NO cell service. That's what vacations are for!!! Cell service was difficult to get in the entire area. No computers, no Ipads, no video games, basic TV channels, but who would want to watch TV anyway with the beautiful scenery and outside activities to do. Loved the fishing especially the grandkids as it was their first time. Cabin was spotless, clean beds, towels were replaced every other day and sooner if you just asked. Kitchen is fully stocked and clean. Cooked every meal/BBQ at the cabin and ate on the deck over the water.Bathrooms were spotless. Had a tub in our cabin with sitdown or kneeling shower which was fine with us. Heck the cabins were built in 1930. Furniture was older, but clean and comfortable. Staff was the friendliest we have had the pleasure to experience in a long time. Close to Silverwood, Sandpoint and Sweitzer and Farragut State Park. Plan on buying your groceries in one of the bigger cities as the Bayview Mercantile is very limited and expensive. The lake is breathtaking and we found several areas for the family to swim at. If you are looking for a fancy high end place to stay this is not it. This is a place to stay when you want the simple things in life, a home feel atmosphere, time to rest, relax and just have a great time. The grandkids didn't even miss the video games back home. We have found a new great family getaway.

FYI - We are frequent travlers to many different places in the world and our standards are high. The review below reflects our desire for high level of return on our travel budget. This location did not return on our investment for a family trip.
The employee's are very nice and welcoming. The lake is beautiful. The resort area is clean and quiet. The cabin was air-conditioned - which was great. We stayed in cabin 12 for 4 nights. The private beach was wonderful for the kids. The cabin itself was not retro in a good way but rather far too dated. The furniture was right out of the 50's maybe 60's. The overall smell was "old". Very strong smell! The bathroom was cleaned but the left behind hair from previous guest was disgusting. We opted to not shower for 4 days. The air conditioner leaked so a good portion of the floor was wet. The back door was stuck so it took a great deal of strength to pull it open. The front door lock was loose. At one point we were locking the door and the whole lock fell off the door. The staff was very quick to fix it for us. The stove looked updated, however, the foil lined trays could have been replaced. FYI- There is no WiFi and NO cell service. The resort store did not have fire starters or charcoal. We did bbq the first night on the grill, but it too was not too clean. We had planned on cooking most meals in the cabin but felt the over all condition and cleanliness was poor so we ended up eating out a lot.The nightly rate was way too much for the cabin we stayed in. Although we believe the family that owns the resort is very friendly and accomadating, the cabins simply need a serious face lift!

The cabins have been here since 1950 - they are clean, fairly quiet and quite retro. There's not much to do at the marina itself, but the location is good - in between Sandpoint and Silverwood. We did eat in most evenings - bbqs are provided, but they are old and tough to get the grate on. The owners are very nice and accomodating; towels are changed twice weekly; linens weekly. The bathrooms are small - bring your own shampoo and blow dryer. In the three-bedroom cabins, the bathroom is partially under a dormer so you cannot stand up; rather sit in the tub with a hose sprayer which is not real convenient.
The pics are on the website so there's no hiding what you're getting when you arrive; if you're looking to relax and read a book in a beautiful location this is the place.

We keep our boat there year-round. Marina services are great - there is always a waiting list for long-term slips. You can get a slip for your boat when staying in one of the cabins for minimal charge. They have a launch/loading dock, mechanic services, fishing supplies. It's a fabulous fishing destination.
We have stayed in and have had guests stay in upper and lower cabins, and they have everything you need. Quaint, basic - if you're looking for 5-star lodging, this is not it. But it suits the environment and is charming.
The people there are the best, very warm, friendly and service-oriented. The little marina store carries most of the basic necessities and wants - including beer and wine.

Stayed here for 4th of July weekend. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The owner was so nice and helpful giving us suggestions for things to do! He recommended Captain Wes' liquid limo is a great way to see the lake! We went on a 2 hour boat ride around the giant lake. The water temp was chilly but a great way to cool off in the 90 degree weather! The temp cools down at night, just in time to make s'mores! I can't wait to come back and visit!

We were only there three days and didn't spend much time in the cabin but what a beautiful location! Cabin 12 sits right on the lake and has a wonderful view. Would love to be there in summer. Nice area and the MacDonald family were helpful and welcoming. We'd gladly return.

Stayed here a few years ago and really enjoyed the property and location; now with remodeled cabins, the place is even better. Gary, Mary and Justin are fantastic owners and go all out to take care of their guests. The remodeled cabins are really nice - cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans, air conditioning (which we didn't need, even though it was hot). Went kayaking on the lake; they have paddle boards for another adventure. We really enjoyed being here.
Plus, it is really close to Silverwood for those that want to spend a couple of days there.

The Hudson Bay Resort is located in Bayview, Idaho on Lake Pend Orielle. We stayed in Cabin 3 (but have stayed in several others over the years). Cabin 3 is up above on a ledge overlooking the lake. There is also four cabins on the water. Cabins come in in a variety of sizes in terms of # of bedrooms. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The cabins were orginally built in the 50's and have recently been updated. If you want a location that is a good peaceful and relaxful this is a great place that is close to areas to investigate (if you have a car). Bay view is located between Coeur d'lene and Sandpoint. Spokane, Wa is about 1 hour away. Farragut State Park is close (within walking distance if you like to walk/hike). If you are looking for child activities Silverwood is within 15 miles. There is not a resturant on location however each cabin has a kitchen with supplies for cooking. If you need something in particular ask if it is in the cabin and bring with you if you need it. Threre is a BBQ with each cabin. The Marina has a small store and there is a Mercentile in the town of Bayvies that has a bigger selection. Grocery stores are available on the hiway to Coeur d'Alene If need upper end accomadations and action this is not the best fit for you. If you like relaxed slow paced surroundings and vintage character you will love this place and the people you meet.
