I rent a place from Tybee Cottages three or four times a calendar year and was last there in September. I rely on Trip Advisor when traveling and had not realized that reviews were accepted for places other than hotels and B&Bs thus my lateness in placing this review.
I can not say enough good things about Jim, the fellow who manages this rental operation. He is very good to listen to your needs and to match you with just the right place. When he has had a late cancellation he has called me to let me know of availability of properties I was interested in and has just gone out of his way to make my escapes to Tybee special. I have rented cottages for solo retreats, girlfriend weekends, and large family events and have never had a single complaint over the many years I have used this business. I have probably stayed in at least six different properties on the island that I have rented through Jim.
The properties are varied, but my favoritea are the old-style Tybee Cottages often decorated by Jane Coslick who has worked with others to keep Tybee "quirky". I love the fact that Tybee is not a BIG-BOX sort of place with large properties blocking the view of the beach, but is made up of small cottages as well as large homes, many of historic significance. It has the feel of a small beach town as opposed to a homogenized resort.
The cottages I have rented have all been well-equipped and very clean. Everything has been in working order and the descriptions provided by Jim and the Tybee Cottages website are very complete. I always know what to expect. I have rented from other groups at other locations and have had to go buy things for the kitchen in order to prepare meals, etc. This is not the case with Tybee Cottages.
Jim is very helpful with advice. On a recent trip he warned of a parade that might make access problematic at certain times and he advised my family when we rented over July 4th as to congested routes, etc. He is always on target and so friendly--I feel like I have a new friend.
It has been more than 8 years since I have stayed in a hotel on Tybee and from that experience and what friends tell me about the available choices Tybee Cottages is by far a better value and a better choice.

My husband and I rented Randolph Cottage for a week this past September and invited our children, and their spouses, to join us as they could. This cottage was just perfect for us. It is honestly right on the beach, as stated, so no walks across the dunes or down the walkways. We found the home charming and furnished exactly as stated. The extra cottage, right in front of the house, was used too, and found to be just fine. The fact that Randolph Cottage is probably one of the originals (picture of it in the living room has the date 1909 written on it) made it even more special. The owners had thought of everything needed for the kitchen; plenty of bath linens; games galore and many other extras. The porches were used every day and we loved them and the rocking chairs facing the beach!
Jim was wonderful to work with. He answered my questions honestly and was very prompt in everything. We had a couple of questions while there and our calls were immediately answered.
I highly recommend Randolph Cottage to anyone visiting Tybee Island and wanting a historical, convenient place to stay and relax.

Another great year at Tybee. Jim is so helpful and friendly and the house was clean as always. I myself have rented from other companies on Tybee and Tybee Cottages has the best overall operation. I have used no other since finding Jim 3 years ago. I plan on renting "up" this next year and taking a large family vacation, so I can't wait to see a new house. (The kids always love to go somewhere different and look in the cabinets and drawers for cool stuff!) I have no doubt that this next place will be clean and stocked, and Jim will be helpful to any problems or questions I may have.

The property was pretty, however we were told in the description it has ocean views from the top floor, and it did not. Also we weren't informed when the pool guy was coming to do maintenance, and we were suprised at dusk when a strange man was out back by the pool. The showers had mold in them. Cockroaches were somewhat a problem too.

Oceanfront Rentals-12B Van Horne, Good Vibrations Townhouse

Wonderful stay. Walked everywhere. Therefore, we did not have to pay for island parking. Truck didn't fit in garage which is par for the course, so that was too bad. Accepted dogs, which was a deal-maker for me. Once you get moved in, the sets of stairs to the middle and top floors create a feel of almost two separate apartments. They do make you pause before you leave one floor to think of what you may need!

Loved the cozy furniture and pretty appointments and artwork throughout the house. Everything you'll need as far as kitchen, laundry, bedding, towels, hangers, appliances, etc., and good water pressure throughout. Everything very clean! Paperback library was a sweet bonus!

The screened-in area off the top floor living room was a beautiful area with a nice fan. Spent some nice lunches out there...and no mosquitoes!

Right next to the beach...access less than 3 minutes down the road. The Sugar Shack, a 5 min. walk, serves breakfast 'til 11, then great hamburgers, and ice cream all day and into the night. Outside dining allowed me to take my dogs.

Alas, Tybee Island does not allow dogs on their beach. Not ever. Never. Patrolled with heavy fines. No excuses. You can walk them in their parks...but not on the Main Street. I bundled them up and drove an hour north to Hilton Head to walk them on the beach. What a waste. A minute away, and I never stepped foot on the beach at Tybee Island. I wasn't willing to leave dogs alone in the townhouse without me being there. The advertised "dog park" is just sad...and you have to pay to park there.

Soooo, while I loved the space, I will probably not return. My fault, as I had Googled "dog friendly vacation spots" and Tybee Island popped up in the top three. That's simply not true, and I failed to ask the Oceanfront Rental folks about that prior to making the reservation. Only by reading subsequent reviews did I find this out.

But as far as the Townhouse unit? Beautiful!

The home is absolutely awesome or as my wife would say 'cute'. The pictures really don't do it justice. As soon as you walk-in the front door you feel like you're at home. The cottage is located on 2nd street which is about 2-3 blocks from the water. For those new to Tybee, 2nd street is the designated bike trail (Tybee is about 2 miles long). Restaurants, bike shops, and shopping are also 2-4 blocks (an easy walk). Parking in Tybee isn't free ($2/hr), so biking/walking is the cheap route. The lot that the cottage sits on allows for privacy (there is a large screened in porch, and smaller non-screen porch, outdoor shower, small picket fenced in yard with a picnic table & charcoal grill).

Girls long weekend. Close to beach boardwalk over dune..Home had a small pool that was just right for small group. Quiet, except for us laughing and having a great time. Would recommend the home we stayed in, 1205 Sands. It is one of the larger homes, but it is on the market, so may not be available.

Jim Heflin was very helpful in helping us find the right location to fit our needs. He was honest with us and very professional. If we had questions or needed something done, he was quick to respond and make things right. The house we rented (27 Taylor) was perfect. The next visit to Tybee, he will be the first person we contact.

We could have not been more pleased, excellent. Jim Heflin with Tybee Cottages was prompt and courteous in all his dealings with us. Parking is on site (4-5 cars). All was made ready when we arrived, very clean. The cottage has been completely renovated with many special, nice, personal touches. So many amenities, even a Keurig to my surprise. Our rental had three bedrooms, comfortable beds, three baths (one down stairs), with a small extra bedroom attached to the master for a small child. The rental is very much equipped for the beach, towels, play items for children, etc...You are about 80 steps from the waters edge. The only draw back would be the kitchen is located downstairs, but we were made aware of this - this did not pose a problem for us, actually enjoyed eating downstairs on the screened porch. We spent most of our time on the second floor screened porch, beautiful views for sunrise, and nice cool evenings (couch and lounge chairs very comfortable.) Bathrooms were all updated, kitchen had everything you will need. Rental is equipped with wifi and flat screen tvs, thank you. This will definitely be our beach house next year.
