Detailed Reviews
I surprised my husband with a trip to South Eden this weekend and it was one of the best times we have ever had together! The staff were so helpful and kind with my last minute booking and everyone was so nice while we were there. The taste of Eden experience was so much fun and the food was so good. The grounds are gorgeous and the stateside suite was so relaxing and inviting. We will be returning again on a regular basis. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

The Honeymoon cottage was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in. The room was immaculate, the ambiance was amazing! Quiet, beautiful, peaceful, LOVED the tub! Can't wait to visit again. The owners and staff were very accommodating.

Daughter found her dream location, scheduled to view the location but the only person who showed up was the cook, do not get me wrong she was wonderful and the location was exactly what we wanted. Told our date was available but within an hour of leaving our date was no longer available but that was okay as we were flexible, asked for a break down of prices and was told they were busy and it would take 2 weeks to get that to us, I do not understand why they don't have a basic price list on a pdf file, almost 4 weeks later still waiting.... thankfully we found another venue that was more cooperative

Hello Andy, Thanks for reaching out as we find your review incorrect in regards to the information that was provided to you as well as our staff members quality of service. The person who toured with you was not just "a cook" who "could show up". That was Tammy, our long time Executive Chef of all South Eden Wedding Experiences. She enjoys meeting clients just as much as the rest of our tour reps do. As you can imagine. being a unique, family owned/operated event venue, our employees are cross trained and have become like family. Every employee here is dedicated to providing a great quality experience. This also means, that especially during COVID, when you came to tour, our expert staff is commonly equipped to provide different services, as we have had to regulate how many employees can come in to contact with clients looking to tour. Tammy is one of these expert employees. In regards to your date, no one on that tour would have access to the event calendar to tell you what is and is not available, as you inquired after, I am sure you got the proper information in regards to what dates we had open. Also, not one employee at South Eden told you, "We are busy and it will take 2 weeks." What you might have misconstrued that from is our online wedding questionnaire you must fill out to receive an approximate wedding quote. This does have a notation stating that it takes up to two weeks to receive back a fully customized wedding proposal. Other than that, we would have been more than happy to email you a generic price range sampler for your convenience.

For $323 (total) a night, I think this is a bomb. Our room was very clean, bathroom updated and clean, with an abundance of supplies. The bed was amazing and the pillows were also great. The staff was friendly and helpful.
That's everything nice I can say, and it does sound great, right? Well, if the people upstairs are awake, you're awake. We were awake at 3:30 am both nights we were there. If anyone walked in their room next door, we heard it (pretty, hardwood floors). Once, a door slammed and I watched my drink on the table almost spill itself. I am not exaggerating here. If anyone talked outside, we heard heard it clearly through the old walls and single-pane windows. The room was lit by two 40-watt bulbs. There was a bedside lamp, but we had to unplug it since only one of the two plug-in spots worked.
The sink was slow to drain. The towel holder fell off the wall. The cabinetry is painted plywood. Watching a movie all the way through is not possible with their internet lags interrupting it. Turn up the TV volume if the heater comes on. It's loud.
There is no restaurant or bar on premises, so we had to go into town for each meal (ten minutes and there are some great restaurants in Thomasville) and bring our own drinks from home or the restaurants. There is room service if you let them know what you want to eat at least a week in advance.
It rained while we were there and the quaint, unpaved roads became a mud bath. Walking to and from the car to our room through the muck was not fun. We went straight to the car wash after checking out.
The old oak trees with moss hanging and twinkle lights hung are charming and beautiful. They surround the individual buildings that hold the hotel rooms. It reminds me of church camps when I was growing up. That kind of grouping of buildings. (see photos I uploaded)

I was curious about this place so I contacted them. The lady I talked to was incredibly rude. If you do a basic Google search you can learn more about the owner and place. It's 2021...let's stop romanticizing plantation weddings. It's disgusting. It's nice many bridal website are starting to raise the concern. I don't see this place lasting very long.

Attended a seefriend's wedding in April 2021. Everything about this property is amazing. Miss Kim (the owner) and Gabby her daughter made this week for our whole wedding party nothing short of utopia. Thank you for everything.

My husband and I were very excited to have the opportunity to stay at the South of Eden Plantation billed as “a historic, boutique resort, set in the heart of the South.”
We traveled from out of state for a family gathering and were excited to enjoy a splurge of a boutique resort and avoid the chain hotels. We have traveled to many places both in the US and abroad, and appreciate the nuances of different accommodations.
As a previous Trip Advisor reviewed commented, “Beautiful venue with potential” and we concur this description ~ with a few more caveats. We stayed for 2 nights and experienced the following:
1. Were not greeted with any help to take our luggage to our room
2. Directions as to where we should park and check in were absent
3. No indications of where the front door / entrance is
4. A staff person took us into a dining room to run our credit card for payment.
5. While we were there, no one checked on us to see if accommodations were adequate
6. No house keeping service ever appeared in our room (I made our bed both days)
7. Clean towels were not restocked
8. No towel rack in the bathroom to hang damp towels ~ had to resort to draping towels on very high shower curtain rod.
9. No air vent to prevent bathroom steaming while showering
10. No luggage rack by which to set one’s luggage for unpacking
11. There were 3 hangers in the closet
12. We were the only overnight guests there for the weekend ~ our car was the only one parked in the parking lot overnight for both nights.
13. No one, not even a car, was around to check us out when we left. We basically left our keys in the room and left.
While the room was pleasant and nicely furnished, my husband and I felt like we were living an episode of the “Twilight Zone.” It was very eerie.
On the upside, we did enjoy a nice cheese board and some wine at the Cream of the Crop Café and Wine Bar when we arrived on Friday. Although the service was rather slow.
In summary, it appears that there are good intentions and thought to bringing this estate back to its prior splendor. However, the service is far below adequate. At the price point required, it does not meet the definition of a “resort” by any means. As we’re from out of state, there’s no compelling reason for us to return.

Very nice rooms with large bed and they were luxurious. The staff was very friendly and met our every need. The restaurant had a entertaining southern band playing and the food was delicious. The grounds were vast and picture perfect. Would not hesitate to come back.

I had the pleasure of spending five days on the South Eden Plantation. It is truly a stunning resort. Every detail has been meticulously thought-out from the landscaping to the guest suite appointments - the beautiful draft horses - the historic theater and the two beautiful restaurants.
Everything has been placed with impeccable taste.
It is the epitome of southern charm - there's a gentility, a distinctive spirit that flows as soon as you enter the gates - it takes you back to a time bygone. When you enter the parlor lounge, Scarlett's, it's as though you've stepped into 1850, you will feel an overwhelming sense of place where no detail has been overlooked.
On one evening we sat at the chef's table in the kitchen with friends and enjoyed the most delightful dining experience - the food was equal to or better than some of the finest restaurants we have ever dined at. After dinner we just sat on the patio and enjoyed great wine while we listened to the cicadas and crickets and took-in the special feeling that comes from a historic resort that is literally hundreds of years old but yet has been restored to make it feel as if it were brand-new. It was as though we had the entire plantation to ourselves to reflect on what life would have been like in such a different era.
I can highly recommend South Eden Plantation and applaud whomever had the vision and foresight to champion this restoration...
Great job!
