We were wanting to visit Sea Island for several years and finally had the opportunity. My husband is an avid golfer and this was one of his bucket list locations. The hotel is absolutely breathtaking, truly one of a kind. The resort is spread out over a fairly large area with lodging options. We were at the beach club on the 2nd floor overlooking the beautiful pool. The room was incredibly large as was the gorgeous bathroom. Also this was literally the best shower I have ever had! The amenities are almost too much to mention. I will have to say one negative, the food was a tiny disappointment. On our next visit we will probably seek out other local dining option with more seafood options. There is also food and beverage service available at your beach chair, just raise the little umbrella and relax The service was topnotch. We will definitely plan another visit

Hotel's Favorite
The Cloister has been on my must-visit list for a while now, and I am happy to share that it did not disappoint! Aside from the impeccable design throughout the entire property, surrounded by stately architecture and magnificent gardens, the service in this hotel is truly first class. From the moment we arrived at the entrance we were serviced with royal treatment. The highlight for my son was getting a hotel room card/key personalized with his name printed onto it. (That’s definitely a first for us and we’ve stayed in many, many hotels worldwide.) The river views from our room were magnificent, especially at sunset. The balcony was beautiful and relaxing. The bathroom was big and beautiful, with a wonderful shower and soaking tub. Molton Brown bath products are always a pleasure to see, and the bath robes and slippers were of excellent quality. The king sized bed was incredibly comfortable, adorned with clearly luxurious linens. We slept very comfortably and soundly in the quiet corner we had. The hotel room itself is old world class mixed with southern charm decor and it is very well maintained. If the hotel rooms and service alone did not impress (they did), then the on site amenities would have compensated. The outdoor pools were well heated and we absolutely enjoyed swimming outdoors even in the relative cold. We also spent time waking along the private beach looking for shells. The locker rooms / bathrooms by the beach club/pool area are very clean and fully stocked with everything needed to take a hot shower and dress for the weather after swimming. I had a little time to visit the spa and indoor pool too, both of which are wonderful and not to be missed. There was staff constantly cleaning on the locker/shower/sauna areas too. We are already dreaming of our next visit to The Cloister and Sea Island. It alone makes a visit down South worthwhile! Special mentions: Everyone at the front desk was incredibly friendly and helpful at all times. David and Tony from valet both helped us at different times, always with a smile and super gracious service. Spencer at valet was wonderful, got our car so quickly, and was always happy to pop any bags we had right into the car so it would be ready for us when leaving. Alvin was so friendly and pleasant to deal with when he gave us rides to/from horse-riding and to the beach club. Matty at the horse-riding was absolutely wonderful and we can’t wait to go back. My son was initially apprehensive about going, but Matty gave him a great ride and he came back already asking about the next time. Which there will be! 🙌🏻

Just loved the ambience. The entire property is perfectly maintained and the employees are trained to be friendly and respectful. It would be hard to duplicate this experience elsewhere so the easiest way to accomplish this is to make a return trip.

We stayed in a cottage. We were 3 mature couples. There was an issue with the toilets that was known prior to our arrival and not fixed. We called in the issue and it was not able to be fixed during our stay. For $2000 a night we expect fully functioning toilets. It was a shame becasue everything else about our stay was delightful.

Well…now we know. I can see the appeal for people, this was just not our kind of vacation. The property is beautiful but I think because we don’t have kids and we don’t golf, we were very disappointed. So much so, we cut our trip short. Excursions were amazing! We did Paddleboarding, near shore fishing and the Hawk Walk. We loved each one. Food - we had one exceptional dinner and one very good brunch. The rest of the meals were either average at best or annoying because of all the kids. Soooooo many kids. The other thing I didn’t like about eating here was how limited our options were. We could either do a sit-down breakfast or a limited selection of dried out tasteless pastries. Because there is nothing else on the island, it’s not like we could walk to a diner or a coffee shop or a fresh food market. We love to try out a variety of places on vacation and we felt trapped. Our fabulous meal cost $300. Steep! Speaking of steep, our 90-minute couples’ massage was $861. It was fantastic, but I almost choked. Granted, this trip was for our anniversary so I didn’t look at prices but OMG! We had also booked a shorter massage that was pretty average - another $550. The spa and fitness center were top notch! We knew this place was pricey and we don’t typically “add things up” when we’re on vacation but $15 extra to our chicken on a salad or $15 for m&m’s? What?!?! The weather wasn’t great so we didn’t get a lot of pool time, and if not paying for an expensive excursion there really wasn’t anything to do. The adult pool at the cloister was super quiet, we did enjoy it once. The beach club was a madhouse. I honestly felt like we paid a lot of money to sit in our room or read in the hotel. Our room was lovely and the housekeeping service was fantastic. Everyone was kind, and they did fawn all over us for our anniversary. We have traveled all over the world and paid way less for as much luxury and a far more enjoyable experience. I’ve never cut a trip short for not enjoying our stay. We will have some nice memories, but we are leaving with buyers remorse.

This is our 2nd stay at the Beach Club and while we had a great time, I noticed a few things were less than stellar compared with our stay three years ago. The positive: This resort is still beautiful with a ton of spectacular activities, and still combines luxury with a great for families vibe. The beach is gorgeous and there are so many choices for things to do. What’s changed: It seems like things are frayed around the edges. For example, last time we were here, there was an awesome splash pad for toddlers by the kiddie pool. This year, it is not turned on. Also the water slide was mostly not working. So, none of the special water features for children were accessible. Also some of the games in the arcade are broken, like one if the pin ball machines and one of the driving games. Equally annoying was the fact that there are gates that require a keypad pin for entry to pool areas, and oftentimes the pin doesn’t work! We were locked out for a few minutes a few times, along with other guests. Plumbing fixtures in our suite worked well enough but the bathtub drain didn’t plug all the way, so I had to refill the tub while bathing my kids. All this gives the impression that there may not be budget for certain repairs. Another thing that I noticed was off included the kids pool being a bit over-chlorinated. Everyone in our family felt our eyes were bothering us after a morning spent in the pool. Lastly, the staff are very friendly but not well-trained in 5-star level service. For example, while I was relaxing and trying to read on the deck, a group of three ladies on staff sat nearby gossiping loudly. I kept thinking they would go away soon so that I could read my book, but it seemed like the loud talking went on forever! Anyway that’s it, nice place, needs repair and training.
