Sea Island, Georgia1 contribution
We just spent 8 days at the Sea Island resort. We made reservations for meals and activities in advance as well. I need to preface that we stayed in the hotel our first night and it was very nice. It’s when we moved to the Beach Club cottages that our experience went downhill. The cottages are managed by a different entity but still under the Sea Island umbrella. The cottage we where in had an awful moldy smell. When we asked about it we were given a run around about who was in charge of it. After opening windows and buying air freshener and candles it was livable. Not one time did any type of manager, or employee, offer any sort of apology or attempt to make it right. Once you are in the cottage you are on your own. This turned out to be the case for the entire stay. The customer service was simply terrible. Food service was probably the worst. Appetizers coming before drinks, half the group served meals 7 minutes before the rest of the table. Of course no manager ever came to the table. The food was always just ‘meh’. Not terrible but not great. We were also surprised by how early everything closes on the property. Including any type of sundries. As far as activities go, we had two visits to the spa and it was great, very nice. The tennis courts are very nice and well kept. We played a number of times. The drills with a tennis pro are ok, a little boring. The Covid-19 protocols were as expected, masks on 80% of people but no social distancing and no mask enforcement. This is normal no matter what resort you go to. It’s a vacation and we knew what we were getting into when we booked it. We have no covid-19 complaints. In closing, find another place to spend your money. I have no idea how they have won awards, I’m convinced they were purchased.

This was my first trip to Sea Island but I'm already planning to return with my family next fall. I was here for a conference but honestly it was so relaxing and beautiful, it felt like a vacation. The people make the difference here...every single person we encountered was so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return!

For starters, they’re managing the Covid19 situation very well. Plenty of hand sanitizer, proper social distancing and everyone is wearing a mask. We stayed in the north wing of the old building. The room was modern and clean with excellent free wi-fi service. From the moment you’re greeted out front to the time you check out, the staff is friendly and helpful. Our rate included breakfast and I’d highly recommend that option. Breakfast offerings are excellent! The property is well maintained with several interesting areas/rooms to explore. My wife had 3 spa treatments and thoroughly enjoyed each one. One word of caution......while the spa is excellent, the prices are extremely high. All in all, an excellent visit snd we’ll return.

Our room was never cleaned over our 2 night/3 day stay nor was our bed made up. The light in the bathroom did not work; the drain did not work in the sink; the battery was dead in the safe; the room was dirty and the clock was not changed to the current time. It was obvious that there was a lack of attention that you would expect at a 5 star hospitality hotel. We were treated poorly when both our dinner reservations were cancelled due to a staff issue. we were told and I quote” you are on you own and just try to get to the open restaurants early so you don’t have to wait. There was no effort by management to make alternative reservations. We did not learn about our cancelled reservation until we showed up at the restaurant at 7 pm...then told you are on your own. Even though the itinerary we picked up that morning indicated all was set. They clearly ruined what was supposed to be a wonderful wedding anniversary celebration for my wife and I. Of course we complained politely while we were there and received a stipend monetary reduction. But, that does not make up for the SOUR taste during our visit. The property is spectacular, but clearly it is not being taking care of...the seat cushions in the main back courtyard were dirty and full of mold; the sink was falling off the wall in the men’s restroom off the River bar and the oriental rugs were filthy. Bottom line, We did not have a 5 star experience especially based on the promoted expectation and price charged. And I never experienced a hotel situation where our bed was not made up or room serviced appropriately.
