We just visited King and Prince for a family vacation as our regular one was cancelled due to Covid, unfortunately. I was really excited about it as my Mom and I came here a couple years and had a great time, we stayed in a regular room and it was really nice. This time we stayed in the Hampton House, which we were assured was going to be cleaned thoroughly between guests. There was 24 hours between us and the previous person but a thorough clean was NOT done. We found several dead cock roaches in the house when we got there and I even had to give our bath tub an extra wipe down. I found flip flops and a dirty qtip behind the chair in our room. The house has supposedly been redone in the past few years but I'm not quite sure what that entailed because ALL the carpet needs to be replaced and the bathrooms definitely need to be upgraded. Most of the closets were not even functional or able to be used because the doors were broken. It wasn't even really set up to be a beach house as there were not towel racks available or places to hang wet bathing suits, towels, etc. The pool area is nice but most of the staff either had their masks pulled down below their mouth and nose or they were not wearing one at all. There was also not a whole lot of distancing going on and I never saw anybody wipe down chairs and tables in between use except for the time that we specifically asked somebody. It was nice to get away and I would probably stay here again, in the main hotel part.

I'll start with Covid precautions. The resort sent emails with their protocols, that included no daily maid service, masked staff, and reduced seating in the pool area, and heightened cleaning protocols. We did not have daily maid service, which we were fine with. The resort had a process for ordering replenishments. Option 1 was to put a paper order on the door between 9am and 12pm and receive your requested items by 4pm. We tried option 1 and our paper was never picked up. Option 2 is to scan a QR code on a paper that you receive at check in which takes you to a web page to make requests. This worked better the second two times we did it, but we never received everything we requested either time. They weren't critical items, so we never contacted the desk to request. Staff was wearing masks, but not all were wearing masks correctly. Alarmingly many of the restaurant staff were wearing them loosely over mouth only, not around mouth and nose. I've been to the resort in the past, and there was absolutely no fewer seating around the pool than in the past. Face masks for visitors is not mandated. My family wore masks every time we were out of the room, and we only saw 1-2 other families doing the same. The main pool was crowded most of the time, so other than first thing (like 8am), we avoided it because we didn't see anyone wearing masks around the pool and too many swimmers to keep distant in the water. Would have loved a reservation policy for the pool the way other resorts are doing. The villa buildings have their own, less crowded pools. These are smaller, but we were able to use the pools at the villas a little more safely. The Room - We stayed in Villa number 349 in the South Villas. We were very close to the water - wonderfully close. Our balcony faced sunrise and got some morning sun, then we had shade for the afternoon and evening. It was perfect. That room is an ocean-facing room. It smelled mildewy when we arrived, and that lasted about a day until we had the AC running for a day (or we just got used to it). It was dusty but clean. We did see two roaches in the second bedroom (we live in the south so are used to them, but never like seeing them in a hotel). It made us feel that the room hadn't been used in a while (dust, smell, roaches). Because of the placement of the room, the second bedroom looks into the breezeway, so didn't get much light. Good for sleeping, but made it feel kind of dark and dreary during the day. Front room and main bedroom were light-filled, lovely and close to the water so you can hear the ocean waves. The door to the room didn't close easily, so we had to push it closed forcefully. It was on the third floor, and we wanted ocean facing and not to have to deal with people face-to-face more than necessary so we didn't alert the hotel until we checked out. There is a DVD player in the room (but no plugs nearby to accommodate the TV AND DVD player, but it didn't matter because once we disconnected the cable box to plug in the DVD player, we found out the DVD player was broken. Beach - very close and easy to access. We went first thing (7am) after sunrise and it was warm enough to enjoy the water before the (entirely unmasked) crowds. Food - The pre-check-in information from the resort said that dining (Echo) was open, and the restaurant could also handle to go orders that could be picked up at the hostess stand. The first night we called to place a to-go order and was told that because the restaurant was at capacity and that they could no longer take to-go orders. So, have a few backup plans. The second night I was able to successfully place an order, but the pick up is NOT at the hostess stand, it is at the bar, where you have to stand (again, no other patrons were masked while I was there) and wait for a bartender's attention to get your food. Fortunately I was there before the bar was crowded. So we decided not to place any more to-go orders there. I tried to buy lunch at the snack bar at the pool the next day but was told the chef had a personal issue and they were unable to cook food that day. So, that was weird. I'd recommend bringing food and having backup options. Last comment, unrelated to the resort. Remember that people live here and the town was crushed with tourists who were not wearing masks. The least we can do, when coming to these towns where people are living and working, is to wear a mask while we are out to protect them. We didn't see nearly enough masks at the resort, or in the town when we drove through.

Dirty, slow slow service, kids everywhere, and my Yorkie has never had issues at any hotel but did at this one. Don’t upgrade your room because you will loose one day which is what happened to my wife and I. We actually checked out and went to the ocean lodge which was beautiful and the staff were angels compared to this place.

Staff was excellence from booking to checkout! Went the extra mile to make our 30th anniversary special. Room was nice and worth the rate. Just steps to the beach. Pool was great especially if you can get a chair overlooking the beach! Loved sitting on a swing looking out over the ocean each evening. Not sure why we have never been before but we will definitely be back often!
