We were on our way to Florida and took a break from driving to spend a night on St. Simons Island. We wanted a hotel near the beach that wasn't part of a hotel chain and were lucky to find the Ocean Lodge. From the outside it looks like a Mediterranean Villa set one row off of the beach. The interior is stunning and the suites are amazing. The beds and the linens are fabulous and the verandas are so special. Unfortunately, their restaurant was closed on the night we were there, but their very helpful staff made several dining suggestions. Surprisingly, this suite was only $9/night more than staying in a king-sized room at the Hampton Inn...which is not near the beach.

My wife and I needed a beach break and chose St Simons Island, GA. It had been several years since I visited SSI and I had forgotten how charming it is. Rich Georgia traditions, beautiful beaches and a lovely, laid back atmosphere prevail in this lovely coastal hamlet.

The Ocean Lodge is one row of houses off the beach and a 3 minute walk to the shore. Wide expanse of beach even at high tide made walking on the beach a wonderful and charming way to burn off a few calories.

The hotel has limited food and beverage service but the rooftop bar is outstanding. Lovely views of the ocean and sunset and always a refreshing breeze keeping the temperature comfy.

The room (a 2 room site actually) was lovely. It felt like we were on the Amalfi Coast in Italy as there were Italian scenes captured in oil paintings around the room. The kitchenette had a stove top, microwave and a toaster so we prepared several meals in the room. The balcony provided lovely views of people in golf carts or bicycles as well as the beach. We left the sliding doors cracked at night so we could the sound of the sea. Lovely !!!

Most of the nice restaurants were a 5 minute drive away but on this small island, it was no problem navigating. Might be a different story during spring break but we were there in early April.

We met the manager and she was delightful. The hotel has less than 20 rooms so we never felt like it was crowded. Parking was convenient under the building and covered.

We will go back to this property soon. However, it does appear that people from all over the US have discovered it as the migration of northern "snow birds" seemed to be all over the island.

The Ocean Lodge Resort with its Spanish-Mediterranean style inside and out is one of the finest resorts we have ever stayed in! Our accommodations were in a premium suite for the 1st night on the 4th floor and the Penthouse suite on the 2nd night on the 5th floor. Both suites were large and of course the penthouse suite was even larger with a huge balcony with 2 sliding glass doors and an even better views to the neighborhood and the partial ocean view. All of the furnishings: couch, chairs, ottoman and bed was very comfortable with lovely high quality furnishings, art work, floor tile and woodwork! Loved the large full kitchen with eating island/bar in both suites that we stayed in. There were 2 tv’s in each suite, with one in the living room and one in the bedroom with streaming channels. Each suite we were in had 2 bathrooms; one bathroom had a shower and tub combo and the second bathroom had a shower with 2 shower heads styles to choose from; a hand-held and a stationary. Each bathroom had wonderful bottles of toiletries. The closet had an ironing board, a robe and slippers. Each suite also had a safe. There were no laundry facilities. We stayed on a Sunday and Monday the 1st week of May 2022 which was perfect since the 5th floor restaurant was closed on those days, therefore we had a very quiet stay, and was happy that we didn't have to hear any chatter coming from diners, plus the weather was perfect during our stay! The parking was free and is conveniently located on the 1st level of the resort with the elevator and luggage cart right there. The resort staff was very welcoming and accommodating! The resort is in a lovely neighborhood with a few minutes walk to the beach. The suites were very clean and we saw no bugs during our stay. We are extremely happy that we chose this beautiful property and will definitely plan on coming back to this lovely island and resort!

We have stayed here many times and continue to come back each year for the SEC golf championship.... in the past we have always had wonderful customer service. This trip has been nothing but disappointments.
Our reservations had us booked in the penthouse. We were so excited. When we arrive, we are put in a center room under the restaurant, all evening and until closing we hear the chairs being scooted across the floor and people shuffling. The exact opposite of a penthouse!
We are booked for 5 days. After our first night, we came back to our room after watching 5 hours of golf, only to find they didn’t clean our room or refresh towels, etc. I called the front desk, I was informed they don’t clean rooms if you only stay for 2-3 nights I explained we are staying for four nights, they said they would clean our room on Friday. When I came back to our room Friday, it hadn’t been cleaned. I called to find out why, I was told the housekeeping staff didn’t come to work. (So they just ignore any housekeeping!?)
In the past there was always beautiful dressers for clothes storage, a comfy couch at the foot of the bed, everything has been removed that would promote luxury.
Don’t wait for a bellman to help with your luggage, they don’t offer that service either.
The pool and gym have been removed. Every time we ask a question, or request towels, etc. it feels like we are bothering the front desk.
This is our 8th year to travel here, our 7th and Last time to stay at Ocean Lodge. It’s too expensive to be treated like an unwanted guest.

My wife and I just stayed in this hotel for our first visit to St. Simmons island. You can see that, at one time this hotel was magnificent, both the facility itself and it’s location. However, it’s also obvious the current ownership has invested NOTHING in the operation and physical well-being of the hotel.

There is NO breakfast available whatsoever, no housekeeping service in three days and there was a live electrical outlet detached from the wall in the kitchen. Check-in is 4pm and a $100 charge for earlier check-in. Checkout is 10am!

Suggest you stay elsewhere until new owners who know how to operate what should be a nice hotel take over.

We loved our stay at Ocean Lodge! The room we originally booked (penthouse) needed repairs when we visited, so we had to stay in another room, but the Ocean Lodge staff went above and beyond to make up for that. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a bottle of champagne, as well as rose petals leading to the bedroom. They also treated us to a dinner at the Rooftop, which was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the calamari. The drinks and service were great as well. The staff at the front desk checked in on us, and quickly brought us anything we needed. It was a quick, easy walk to the beach and a short bike/walk to many restaurants and shops. We can't wait to come back!

Mom and I were lucky enough to get the last room available during a recent family girls trip to SSI. We almost got stuck in a dated condo so when we walked into our room I was so happy with the spacious ice and the nice furnishings. This building itself is very Mediterranean with nice finishes, fountains, murals. I took a bunch of photos here. The room had a kitchen that had everything we needed for snacks and wine. We didn’t cook anything but we could have and the fridge was full size. It’s about the size of an apartment. We sat out on the veranda every night and enjoyed. There are a few spots you can see the ocean and at night if the AC is off you can hear the waves. They have a rooftop restaurant that we have dined at on previous trips. This time they were reservation only. I popped up there by myself one night for a glass of wine. They were super busy with a small menu so I decided not to eat there but came back later for a nightcap as they had live music. It’s an enjoyable space. SSI doesn’t have a lot of hotels in my opinion so I think this is the best place on the island for the price and for a quiet experience.

We loved staying at the Ocean Lodge Penthouse so much! There were many other choices on St. Simons, with prices at least double of what was being asked at the Ocean Lodge. We even looked at one afterwards, just to see if it was better. But while the size was good at the other place, it was no match for the Ocean Lodge. The Ocean Lodge suite was huge, and there was a lot of privacy, including two separate bathrooms. The decor and architiecture is like an Italian villa, and that is what the architect based the entire building on. Spectacular furniture and paintings adorn every room. The kitchen is the size of a normal kitchen in a house. And the views...a beautiful view from the huge balcony of the Atlantic Ocean and St. Simons Sound, which runs from in front of the living room to the front of the master bedroom, and gorgeous views from the living room and even the kitchen! But the best part was the friendly and professional attitude from Barbara, at the front desk. She made sure our stay was very comfortable, and was happy to help when we had a question. Thank you, Barbara and Ocean Lodge, for helping make this a birthday for the record books! <3

Terrible service! I was locked out of my room at 2:30a from a faulty door lock and was unable to get anyone from the hotel to return my calls even though they have an emergency answering service. I left 6 messages and ended up having to sleep in my car! The emergency phone message states that regular office hours are from 7am to 11p but no one showed up until 7:35a and hours later, no return call back from the on call staff.

Plus the place is a dump - looks like appliances furniture and decorated from the 1980s - example a dark brown refrigerator that is very noisy. Shower leaks and who ever cleans the rooms leaves all the toilet seats up like someone just used it and forgot to close the lid. The front doors have weird funky combo locks that give little to no indication that you pressed the right code and the door handles feel like they are going to fall apart.

I would steer clear of this place. Not as pictured or as promised.

During the Pandemic I have managed 3 Covid Cootie Free stays at this lovely grand dame of hotels. You have a full suite, kitchen, living room, master bedroom w/ attached bath and an additional 3/4 bath. Best feature an Amazing covered balcony overlooking the beach. I recently stayed for a week. I chose to have house keeping only once as I'm a smidge hinky about Covid. As usual my stay was wonderful, the staff was awesome and the room service was great. I love this hote! You will not find anywhere nicer, quieter and more charming on the island.

The pool was removed several years ago. I altered TripAdvisor about this incorrect feature upon our visit late in 2020. That is when we had figured out that it had changed ownership/management several years back. DO NOT FO BACK TO THIS PLACE. And TripAdvisor has never updated this listing/features to this place.

Why do you advertise hot breakfast? I am very disappointed the breakfast was not even on a continental level, only muffins coffee and orange juice.
