We were amazed at the wonderful suite! Very Mediterrean and gorgeously appointed. Extremely clean and well equipped. The lovely young lady that checked us in, I think her name was Maira, was very accommadating and friendly. If and when we go back to St. Simons, we will definitely stay here. I was very happy with everything.
We were on our way to Florida and took a break from driving to spend a night on St. Simons Island. We wanted a hotel near the beach that wasn't part of a hotel chain and were lucky to find the Ocean Lodge. From the outside it looks like a Mediterranean Villa set one row off of the beach. The interior is stunning and the suites are amazing. The beds and the linens are fabulous and the verandas are so special. Unfortunately, their restaurant was closed on the night we were there, but their very helpful staff made several dining suggestions. Surprisingly, this suite was only $9/night more than staying in a king-sized room at the Hampton Inn...which is not near the beach.
We came to St Simon Island to spend our 27th wedding anniversary. Two nights cost $670.00. I don't feel that this property was worth this amount. We paid more to stay on the 4th floor by the pool. There was no pool. The pool area was completely closed (Gate locked) with boards covering pool. According to staff pool has been closed for months because it was leaking into the hotel. The rooms were dark and didn't appear very clean floors needed a good mopping. Feet were black after walking barefoot. There was a used Kleenex on the chair on the balcony. There was a ac attached to ceiling in bedroom which worked well (despite its gurgling sounds through out the night) but leaked water we had to put towels on the floor. I found the bed to be uncomfortable. I will say the staff was friendly (except for when we tried to complain they just dismissed our concerns) and I did enjoy our view of the ocean. Despite the shape of the hotel. Which is not reflected in the website pictures. We enjoyed the Island and surrounding areas. We were very close to the beach and overall enjoyed our trip despite the accommodations.…
I can't say enough great things about this hotel. I spend quite a bit of time in Saint Simons and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The new management is sprucing it up, great new robes, towels extended breakfast menu and hours for the roof top bar and dining. Best of all - same amazing staff! The service is excellent, location and views are stupendous. By far the best hotel on the island.
We arrived on a Friday night for a two night stay and were given a room on the 4th floor. The restaurant is on the 5th floor - so we weren't prepared for the noise associated with the restaurant until 11:30pm - just don't count going to sleep before midnight. The room itself was very pretty and clean - the decor is Mediterranean. The ocean view is unfortunately blocked by a row of houses that is is oceanside. The location is convenient to a nice beach. The wifi was the slowest I believe I've ever encountered in a hotel. The swimming pool was not in working order - something I think we should have been given a discount for (considering it was August!) We were offered a pass to walk over to the the neighboring property - we chose not to do this.
