Travelers' Choice
Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant celebrates its 98th birthday in 2020. It's the last surviving mountain lodge on a lake in Georgia. Because it has stayed true to the look and the feeling of another, perhaps more peaceful, time, it's been called both a regional and a national treasure. For decades generations have enjoyed the beauty of the lake and mountains. Carefully restored by preservationists in 2008 to maintain its ancestral charm, it features gardens of native plants, rock pillars and walkways, locust log decks, and balconies with views of old growth oaks, pines, and hemlocks. Lake Rabun is one of the most beautiful lakes in the mountains of North Georgia.

My husband and I are on currently on a road trip through the mountains and this was our hotel we used while visiting north Georgia. We stayed 2 nights in the Appalachian Room. This room is somewhat bigger than the other rooms with a bigger bathroom. We would open the windows and it felt like you were sleeping in a tree house. I have to make a note about the bed too - softest I’ve ever slept in! No TVs in the room, which honestly I did not even miss. On the 1st and 2nd floors, there is a ton of comfortable seating, along with a lot of outside seating on the decks built around the house. At night, a gentleman would play the piano for entertainment. You’re stay includes a free breakfast. You have to make reservation times beforehand. You serve yourself your drinks (coffee and juices), but they prepare and bring out your breakfast. You don’t get to choose what you want, but each morning they offered a different selection and you can always choose how to prepare your eggs. The food was really good! The section of the hotel where you eat breakfast, is also where you can dine for dinner. Keep in mind, there are lots and lots of stairs in the hotel and you have to take care of your own luggage. You also can not see the lake from the hotel. The service from the staff is fantastic! They are super friendly, always smiling and willing to help with anything. I really enjoyed our time here and would recommend this to anyone looking for a different type of place to stay with southern charm.

The dining room is beautiful - historic, quaint, peaceful. The pimento sheese fritter with chutney appetizer was the highlight of the meal. The service was sub-par though we were one of the first tables in the entire place. Ordered drinks when we ordered our meal and they arrived halfway through the appetizer. Pork was cooked nicely but the cumin was so overpowering, you'd think you were in Iran. The venison medallions were completely disappointing, particularly for $40. They were not medallions, but a 1/3 inch patty, so dry and tasteless it reminded me of liver despite the Korean BBQ sauce. The veggies were perfect thankfully. Very unlikely that we'd give it another try.

This was my second, stay at this Inn. The first stay was in 2014. Everything was just as fabulous as I had remembered it back then. I stayed in the Andrea Room, which was cute and charming. The service was excellent and I loved having my meals (breakfast and dinner) at the restaurant, along with evening cocktails at the hand-carved wood bar. I love how cozy the Inn is and all the patio and sitting nooks there are.

Beautiful, rustic lake getaway. Loved the 100 year old hotel. Quiet porches and decks to enjoy the beauty. Great location for nearby hikes. hearty, fresh made daily breakfast included. Great dinner restaurant on site too, just be aware like most restaurants in the area they are closed Monday and Tuesdays.

We rented two of the "Fish Camp" cottages, which are a mile or so away from the hotel. The cottages are not on Lake Rabun but are in a quiet, woody area. They are roomy, super-clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. The decor is very rustic, charming, and definitely "not a Marriott", and I mean that in the BEST possible way. The hotel staff was friendly, very helpful, and made arrangements for us to rent kayaks and paddleboards to use on Lake Rabun. Mike provided great tips on areas to explore on the lake. In the evening, the fireflies came out and we made Smores by the fire pit at the Fish Camp. After a year and a half of Covid quarantining, this was just the relaxing getaway that we needed!
