Neat place, I'm talking about Cumberland Island, and Greyfield. Food was good with exception of a couple of meals. There were only two working chairs at the beach, no working umbrellas. The storage for the beach chairs needed cleaning badly. The bicycles needed a lot of attention and repair. The fishing rods were all messed up. If Greyfield would like to state that they provide these items, they should provide them in a working, well maintained manner, especially considering the price of a stay. The staff were all pleasant and easy to find for me. The tours were great. The introduction to the island upon arriving, including where rooms were and amenities needed some brushing up also. It was better than camping; however, I've stayed in moderately priced inns and resorts that provided much better amenities than Greyfield, which is way above moderately priced.

My first impression of Greyfield was negative. After spending some time thinking about why, my assessment: This place does not have enough staff to provide the kind of service one would expect from a high-end, all-inclusive destination. Indicators: although the inn controls when guests arrive and leave, guest rooms were not ready until three hours after arrival; there was no host/ess in the main hall at what should have been check-in to guide one to one's room or for the remainder of the day (or later at happy hour) to answer questions, to let one know about activities, tours or amenities, to assist with needed items for a guest's room, or simply to facilitate conversation; too much information was word of mouth from other guests; lunch was brown bag to go. That being said, the inn has been beautifully restored and maintained. The furniture is period and the furnishings and fabrics are top-notch. The rooms are comfortable, airy with windows that open, well-appointed; the beds are comfortable and the plumbing up to date. The swings and rockers on the porch were a very nice touch. There were fresh flowers everywhere. The scenery is certainly spectacular from the beach to the marsh to the woods. There are lots of well-maintained roads and hiking trails. Meals were a set menu. The three course dinner was excellent each night, especially the vegetable dishes, sauces and desserts. The fish was overcooked on two nights but the chicken on the third was organic. It was well-paced. Breakfast was innovative although included scrambled eggs every morning. Table service at both was very good; the servers were customer-service oriented and charming. The brown bag lunch was barely adequate. There was enough food for me at dinner and breakfast but probably not for younger women, active children and men. The wine list was excellent. There were a number of nature tours offered. The three that I took were all very much worth it. Christina was an excellent guide. (I had heard the other naturalist was not.) I would recommend booking nights when Christina is on duty. Ava's garden tour was quite good.

Greyfield Inn has always been a bucket list place to stay. And it was a dream come true. Wild horse roam throughout the island. Our room was beautiful, it was as if we stepped back in time, yet with all the modern comforts. All of our meals were included. And so was the tours of Cumberland island. They also offer bikes and kayaks. I can’t wait to go back again.

I have always wanted to stay at Greyfield and experience the beauty of Cumberland Island. I talked three other couples into a trip and, while we enjoyed the experience and our time together, we all went away very disappointed. The food, other than breakfast, was less than impressive. Considering the price of the accommodation, I expected much more especially at dinner. Dinner was fish the way they prepared it with what they chose to serve it with or a chicken breast both nights. Not sure why they added such significant service charges for the minimal services received. I wish they had sent a follow up satisfaction questionnaire but not sure they care about guest satisfaction. On the positive, absolutely beautiful natural beauty is worth the day trip with the park service!

My wife and I visited Cumberland Island just after Christmas for a much needed get away. We stayed in the north marsh room which has a king size bed and private bath. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The room was nice, the staff all wonderful and the food was pretty good. They did a good job with covid guild lines in place. The island activities kept us busy and we really enjoyed biking around the island learning the history and seeing all the wildlife and horses. Definitely worth a visit or two.
