The Edgewater Hotel captivates guests with its well-preserved 1920s ambiance and historical allure, set in a prime location near Winter Garden's attractions and a short distance from Orlando's parks. While some guests might find the rooms quaint due to their size and the lack of certain modern conveniences, the cleanliness and unique charm are highly praised. The hotel's atmosphere, comfortable beds, and the complimentary breakfast receive special commendation, with many travelers highlighting the attentive and friendly staff that enhance the overall experience.

The Edgewater Hotel towers over the quaint, historic downtown area of Winter Garden, and also towered above my expectations for a Bed and Breakfast. It sits right on Main Street that is peppered with lots of little shops, eateries and outdoor activities that you won't find anywhere else. The hotel itself is home to two restaurants and a homemade Ice Cream parlor.

The hotel has a classic manual elevator (that requires, for safety, staff to operate - so keep that in mind if you have health or physical complications because stairs are also available and more commonly used). Each room is designed to remind the guest of days gone by. Hardwood flooring and private baths are among what you'll find here. The delicious included breakfast is cooked to order, and the ladies who prepare it are also your hostesses and couldn't be friendlier, providing information about the area and the history of the building.

Having stayed here four times while on various vacations, this place just keeps getting better and better with a recently remodeled breakfast area and other visually pleasing updates that enhance the stay but doesn't take away from the old time experience.

Very highly recommended.

This hotel is centrally located for all the restaurants and shops of Winter Garden and it is located right on the West Orange Trail (a 22 mile bike trail). The staff was very accommodating (no problem bringing our bikes up to the room); the room was charming (beautifully decorated with antiques of the period) and the breakfast was perfect. Thanks for a wonderful get away - We will return - soon!!

I've stayed here when visiting family in Winter Garden. It's so wonderful to be able to step out the front door and be right in the middle of everything, especially on a Saturday morning for the farmer's market. The room was clean and had a mini-fridge which was great for leftovers (we ate at the Thai restaurant just downstairs, yum!) and cheeses I bought at the farmer's market. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and I slept very well. I also had a glass of wine with my siter on the upstairs/outdoor/covered patio which was an added treat. Very lush and secluded with a bunch of plants surrounding us. In the morning free breakfast is provided in the main parlor in a style similar to a bed and breakfast. Meaning, a full meal of whatever you'd like; eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, etc. There are also quick on-the-go eats like cereal, yogurt, and coffee.

The only issue someone might have is getting up to the room there is an (awesome) elevator that needs to be manually operated by an employee. There is a phone number right there to call at any time and they are extremely quick to respond. In my opinion, it's totally worth it, as I would hate to see them get rid of it because it really enhances the entire vibe of the place. Like if Walt Disney was planning the hotel he would make sure everyone rode the elevator up to the main floor so you could really get into the spirit of the place. We mostly took the stairs right next to the elevator which is only accessible with your room key for an added level of security.

I seriously can't wait to go back and enjoy my time in Winter Garden which the Edgewater makes that much more enjoyable.

We keep coming back to the Edgewater Hotel every couple of years because we love the atmosphere, personnel and location. Years ago, when I first looked at pictures of the outside of the building, I thought, “Maybe Yes – Maybe Not”. But I am so glad I said, “yes”. I love history, so I was really impressed from the retro reception desk, to the antique elevator, to the beautiful common/breakfast area & the clean rooms. It is really run like a “family” business and not a “corporate” hotel. This shows with the attention the staff gives to each guest to make them comfortable. You can’t beat the location either. Years ago, the town was on the verge of becoming extinct but now it is extremely alive – especially for a small town. Great shopping, dining, museums, a theater and, of course, the bike trail running right down the center of town. Oh, try the waffles for breakfast. I think they are the best I have found any where.

Best location we enjoyed walking downtown with all the restaurants and everything located right out your front door. The rooms were very unique everything was perfectly clean the breakfast was the best anything you could want chocolates and candy laying everywhere something that I have only seen at the Ritz Carlton club level hotel. Overall wonderful hotel great location great staff and the girl that works the front desk was absolutely amazing so nice. Thanks Limo Mike.

I loved the character of this historic hotel. Our stay was like visiting the past. I read that it was used to house service men in WWII and wonder if my father stayed there as he was stationed at McCoy and met my mother there.
The common kitchen area was very welcoming and my breakfast Belgian waffle was delicious.

We had a team retreat in Winter Garden and stayed at the Edgewater Historic Hotel. We loved everything about it...the great personalized service, historic rooms that are kept immaculately, fun gathering areas and of course you can walk out the front door and be in the middle of the cute downtown!

What a surprise , beautiful historic hotel looking brand new . Beautiful decor very comfortable rooms with central AC and comfortable beds . Rooms are in the 1920 ‘s motif and very clean and comfortable without any “old” feelings. We really enjoyed the historic area shops restaurants and watering holes. The rooms are all on the second floor and accessible by staff operated elevator or stairs. The second floor lobby is a delight with ample room for lounging and enjoying with friends and beverages. The huge dining table also in the lounge area and seats 8 and is work of art as is all the cabinets and storage areas. The dining area is a delight with period appliances and decor.A delicious breakfast is staff prepared and free from a very large menu. Don’t miss this experience of old Florida , the staff is so friendly and helpful you feel like “company” not guests, if in the area or make it a point to visit an overnight you will not be disappointed by the hotel or the area. Say Hi to Katie and Lyla they make it a real pleasure to be there.

The place is charming. Very clean and welcoming. The staff super friendly and ready to please and meet all of your needs.
The room was nicely decorated and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and conversstion with other guest was delighfull. The hotel is in the midfle of restaurants and shops which made it convenient, yet...the rooms were really quiet and could not even noticed the outside buss. We loved our stay and highly recommended.

It took us 20 minutes to have someone coming at the reception, (you need to phone to get someone at the reception desk and phone was busy apparently).

The bar is closed, (you cannot sit at the bar as they want to protect their glasswear)!

The rest of the dining room is dark and noisy.

Go elsewhere...

Are you able to accommodate 2 bikes that we will be bringing? Thanks!
Answer from John B
Dayton, United States5 contributions1 helpful vote
We usually lock our bikes inside our vehicle. The staff at the hotel is very accommodating so I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you bring them upstairs. The West Orange Trail is one of our favorite trails and downtown Winter Garden is beautiful with many fine restaurants and shops. Check out the Plant St Market and don't miss the Farmers Market on Saturday. Also take an evening stroll down to Lake Apopka.

how far is hotel from airport
Answer from Tom W

Winter Garden, and the hotel are 13 miles from central Orlando. However the Orlando airport is probably 10 miles to the southeast of central Orlando, so my best guess is that it is 25-30 miles from the airport.

Yes, you can use the outside stairs or the stairway that's next to the elevator to access your room. We found the hotel staff to be very quick and quite gracious each time we called for elevator service.
