Hotel's Favorite
We stay at the Sunset Inn & Cottages every year.
This year we were especially excited because they remodeled the cottages in a mid century modern motif! They are bright, cheerful and clean!
The rooms are very spacious and even though temperatures were reaching 90 degrees, the rooms stayed nice and cool.
The pristine beach is right across the street and the property is very close to St. Pete Beach and its many great restaurants!
We will be back next year as well for many new adventures!

Our annual girls trip took us over to Tampa Bay for three nights. After extensive research we realised that the ‘beach’ was the place to be so we booked three nights at Sunset Inn Cottages. Very reasonably priced and literally over the road from the most beautiful white sand beach.
Check in was from 1pm – 4pm. One of our party was on an internal flight from New York so she got to the cottage before us (who were flying in from Gatwick) had no problems checking in.
We’d got the Sunkissed Cottage for our stay and it consisted of a double bedroom, bathroom with shower, small kitchenette/dining/living area. The sofa converted to a sofa bed ( I had the sofa bed, completely fine, nice and cosy.) Bed linen was of good quality as were the towels, two toilet rolls initially provided (you need purchase your own supplies after this.) Good collections of crockery/cutlery/pans and even a coffee maker.
The Cottages are situated in a lovely quiet neighbourhood, felt quite safe walking back to the cottage on a Saturday night after an evening at the Tiki Bar down the beach. These cottages are an ideal base to discover Treasure Island itself as well as further afield to Downtown St Petersburg. We used the ‘free taxi’ service during our stay to access Downtown St Petersburg (separate review.)
Sunset Beach is named for the best sunset views on the island. Unfortunately during our short stay the weather was overcast so no chance of sitting and watching a sunset. However, we did see dolphins playing in the clear waters along this beautiful beach.
Would highly recommend a stay here. The staff on reception were amazing and so happy to accommodate us in whatever way they could. We were so lucky to be given an extra late check out time too (thanks so much, it was greatly appreciated by us three girls from the UK) Their knowledge of the area is fabulous too, their recommendations for bars and restaurants were top notch. We’re definitely going to come back here at some point.

The property is adorable and very clean. Owners were very accommodating to our entire group and made sure we had everything we needed. Beach Is directly across the street. This property does not have a pool but they do have private outdoor showers to wash the sand and salt off. We will definitely be back!

Our 3 night visit was as expected and we enjoyed a peaceful stay in the area. Our concern, however, lies with the property manager who called us after we checked out and accused us of spilling something on the floor - and threatened a fine if the stain did not lift from the tile.
We were at a family wedding when this call arrived and it was most upsetting. We are a professional couple and own numerous rental properties. We understand the value of having responsible and courteous guests and followed ALL the rules posted at Sunset cottages - which included no sunscreen application in the rooms, washing the glasses and dishes, hanging up towels, removing linens from the bed, limiting sand in the room, turning off the lights, etc. We asked the property manager to send us a picture of the "floor stain" and (not surprisingly) we never heard back from her again. This call to us was unprofessional and inappropriate.
It's unfortunate that such a cute establishment left such a bad taste in our mouth.

Suzy, Thank you for your feedback. As a renovated midcentury motel & cottages, we try to ensure our terrazzo floors are kept in tip-top shape for all to enjoy. Spray on sunscreen can ruin the floors, so I am assuming our property manager was just doing her job, as we ask her to make sure floors are free from any damage between all guests stay. Again, we apologize that the call came in at an inconvenient time. Laurie Owner Sunset inn & Cottages

the location is nice and the rooms are cute with a lil kitsch, but it’s still a motel. we were flummoxed that the room instructions include: taking out the trash, cleaning the dishes and stripping the bed. AND you’re still charged a cleaning fee with a 10am checkout.

Hello 527mishap, Thank you for your feedback from your recent stay. We are very sorry that our small checkout list might have caused you any issues during stay. We are a vacation rental and have a short list of items we ask for guests to help us with to ensure we have ample time clean and make sure rooms are ready for check in. If you stay at any other vacation rental, they would have similar instructions, so this is not a strange request. We have many guests that opt to not help and leave their trash and dished in the sink, as this is simple a list that helps us with our early check in time (our check in time is 1:00pm, whereas most hotels are 3:00pm at the earliest). You are not penalized or charged additional if you leave the room without talking your trash out. With Covid-19, we do ask guests to remove their trash and to put anything dirty linens in a basket. This helps us ensure that our staff is able to take extra precautions in thoroughly cleaning each room between guests. We hope you will give us a second chance and come back for a future stay.

We stopped here in February. We weren't totally sure what to expect, sometimes these types of properties can be hit or miss. We were a bit concerned after having issues with the online booking process, after we booked, we received a phone call saying it didn't process and we need to call and give our card number, which seemed a bit scammy at first. However, after triple checking the business and the phone number we contacted them back. The lady explained they have been having issues and admitted that having to do this was a pain and everyone thinks they are being scammed. Hopefully they fix that soon, I'm sure it's annoying! I would call and verify online booking is working, otherwise it's probably easier to book over the phone.
We had a bit of a later check-in and the owner wasn't going to be there, but worked with us so we could still check in. We arrived and found our room (#2 I think), I wouldn't say it's a huge room, but it's very comfy and cute beachy themed décor. The bathroom is kind of smallish, but adequate for our needs. The place seemed clean, comfy, and cozy. It was cool outside in February, so the AC didn't really click on as needed to cool the room, but it was kind of loud. I don't remember why we didn't just open the windows, maybe they don't open, but I can't remember now. In any case, we worked it out.
There is free parking (1 spot per room) and you have access to the seating areas and open spaces around the property. But, of course the biggest appeal is being literally right across the street from the beach. You don't have an ocean view from the room, but walk across the street and you are there. We paid to rent the beach chairs and umbrella which made lounging on the beach a treat.
All in all, we had a lovely time, the price was very reasonable, the stay was clean, cozy, and nice. In a great spot, minutes drive from many different activities, restaurants, and shopping nearby. 15 -20 minutes to downtown St Pete. If you are looking for a private, nice place to stay, walking distance to the beach without all of the sterility and usual hassles of a hotel chain, this is the place for you.

Cool motel, friendly staff, great value and access to a beautiful beach to swim and watch the sunset
If it has not already been done, this property needs to be featured on some travel show for unique, retro motels. We stayed for 2 nights in a room with a king bed. The room itself was immaculate and beautifully decorated. The bed was soooo comfortable too!
The motel and grounds were beautiful and clean. And, it is directly across the street from a gorgeous beach. Sandra, the inn-keeper, was wonderful, friendly, and most helpful. They do have have extremely reasonably priced laundry on site, grills, and offer chair and umbrella rentals if desired. Plus, the room rate was very reasonable considering the close proximity to the beach. We didn’t have our dogs with us, but I was surprised to learn that they do allow pets in some rooms, which is another bonus.
Just 2 fyi’s: the shower stall in the room we stayed in was on the small side. It does look small in the photos, so it wasn’t a surprise, but worth a mention in case you need more room… The other thing to note is that the check out time is 10:00am. It seems most places are 11:00 am. I think they just need extra time because they appear to do a full deep clean between guests.
The bottom line is we had a great visit and would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

This property is a gem. We stayed in Stone’s Throw Cottage- a two bedroom cottage with a small kitchen. Perfect for our family. The cottage was clean and well-appointed. We would walk across the quiet street to the beach in the morning with our coffee and watch the surfers surf. Treasure Island is a special place which doesn't feel like much of the rest of Florida.
A couple of tips- the immediate beach does not allow dogs but there are three within range that do. Plenty of restaurants to choose from on TI and right across in St Pete Beach. The hotel will rent your chairs, umbrellas and beach towels for $15 a day per person. One day someone took our chairs and umbrellas but brought them back at the end of the day. This beach is pretty narrow and the water comes up in high tide. There is a much wider beach and walkway a bit north on TI. Look up BrGr restaurant and that will put you smack dab next to a huge beach.

This is the Best Vintage style Motel / Beach cottages that I have ever experienced . I search out boutique hotels and motels from NYC , SFO, Miami ,Key West and New Orleans. The character of these rooms and cottages including the furniture, the red Refrigerator and microwave, fully furnished kitchen put this location over the top. First and foremost this lovely quaint resort is immaculate and the AC is cold with ceiling fans and a vintage fan in the bedroom to make sure you are most comfortable day and night. You will need a blanket in the bed at night for sure. You are truly steps from the beautiful Gulf Of Mexico Crystal clear waters . There is a beach shelter house with a deck across the narrow street . Don't miss a sunset each night as they are all so different. Beach is quite private ...family oriented for everyone. I just can't say enough..I just returned from a four day stay and already making plans to return. Manager Sandra is bodacious!!! She runs this resort like a well oiled clock. I'll be back Baby!!!!!

The location is perfect. It’s on an offshoot from the main road so there is almost zero traffic by the cottage after 5-6pm. The beach is literally a 30 second walk from your front door and it was never very busy and easy to find a good spot to setup. There is a beach restaurant and a tiki bar with live music about a half mile walk down the road. You have easy access to all of the beach shops and restaurants within a short drive from the property as well.
The property is dog friendly which was a huge selling point for us since we were bringing our dog and there aren’t very many dog friendly places around that don’t charge a ridiculous amount to have a pet. Sunset Beach isn’t dog friendly, but Sunset Park on the inlet side of the island is and is has a small beach for dogs to swim.
The courtyard of the property has outdoor games, hammocks, tables, and a grill that we used a few times. We stayed in the Blue Lagoon Cottage and it had everything we needed. The outdoor shower was a plus to wash the salt and sand off after being at the beach.
The only thing I disliked about it was that the waterproof mattress protector (understandable to keep sand and sweat out of the mattress) held my body heat and made me sweat at night. Other than that, no other complaints and I would definitely stay here again!

Hi Julie- I think you can go back into the review and edit your response. Thank you again for staying with us and for taking time to fix the review to a 5 star. It makes a huge difference in whether people decide to come stay with us in the future. We hope you will come back again in the near future!
I absolutely agree that it was quite clean and the beach access is literally across a dead-end, two-lane street with very little traffic (as opposed to places like Clearwater where the street is a zoo, as is the beach).
I'm not familiar with The Serenity Cottage so I can't answer your question regarding the distance. However, the Sunset Inn, and the six related Cottages are conveniently located across the street from the beach. They are separated by a two lane, residential street.
No pool at the inn, but talk to the hosts to see if they have suggestions. It is about a mile or so south of Caddie's, just across the street from Sunset Beach.
No there isn't but the ocean is right across the street.
