When we visit St. Augustine we stayed in a B&B, not a chain hotel. When we visited Savannah we stayed in an historic hotel. When in the upper keys you want a more authentic old Florida experience and do Mike and Carol ever deliver. While our room was small, it had everything one could want and all was of very high quality. There are only 10 cottages and they and the grounds are impeccably maintained. While beautiful by day, the sunset and nighttime are so gorgeous here. I could go on but there isn't anything I would change. The beach was so peaceful and a great place to watch the sunset. Kayaks are available to guests without a fee. Don't miss this place!
Our third time with Mike and Carol. We’ve stayed at several chain resorts over the years and now that we’ve found Island Bay there’s no going back. Their attention to detail and just the overall feel of the resort is amazing. This is truly our happy place and everyone definitely needs a happy place.
Island Bay was the most amazing resort we could have chose. The room was spotless (thank you Olivia and Emilia!) and had every resource you could need on a vacation. The resort itself had plenty of areas to lounge around bayside and also a bunch of included amenities to use out on the water. Mike and Carol have a beautiful resort, intimate enough for couples who want to get away and relax! Can’t wait to come visit again.
Island Bay Resort is the definition of a perfect getaway! From Mike personally greeting my wife and me by name when we arrived to his suggestions of places to visit on our last day when we checked out, we could not have asked for a better place to spend some time to chill and unplug for a few days. The attention to detail and impeccable cleanliness of this resort speaks to the labor of love that Mike and Carol have for their business. We did not want for anything during our stay. Mike and Carol were always around if we needed any supplies restocked in our room. They were happy to suggest places to visit and their favorite local restaurants (which were all spot on - by the way) when we asked them. The resort is tucked away off the main highway but we didn’t have any issue with road noise. The private beach was a wonderful place to enjoy the sounds of nature in the morning with a cup of coffee and view the unique sunsets from Mother Nature every evening. Watching two dolphins play on our last night was a nice touch as well. There are kayaks and paddle boards available during your stay if you are coordinated and adventurous which is a nice touch. :) If you’re not into that, you can simply swim in the water, play some cornhole or simply soak up the sun with your favorite beverage. This was truly an oasis for us to take a break from the current events that have been overwhelming at times. We were in Cottage #10. It was perfect. There was a king bed, sofa and dining room table. The refrigerator was good sized for our needs and while we didn’t use it, there was a two burner electric stove inside and a charcoal grill outside. If you are thinking of staying in the Key Largo area, you will regret not staying at the Island Bay Resort if you have the opportunity. It will be our go to when we go back to the Florida Keys. …
We visited Key West for our 35th anniversary, and decided to tack on an extra day in the Key Largo area. We are fortunate to have found the Island Bay Resort, because it was the perfect ending to our trip. The entire property is immaculate, and BEAUTIFUL! The owners, Mike and Carol, have thought of every single detail. We stayed in cottage #2 and it was extremely clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We watched the sunset from the private beach, and spent the rest of the evening enjoying the quiet comfort of the lounge chairs and music in the tiki hut. I only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the complimentary kayaks, and paddleboards. If you are looking for a secluded, pristine, and romantic resort then I highly recommend Island Bay! We cannot wait to return!
