The Grand Beach Hotel Surfside enjoys praise for its roomy accommodations and breathtaking views, especially the pools that guests find delightful. However, it's not without its faults; some guests have voiced concerns regarding service and maintenance. While the hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness generally receive positive remarks, with its chic decor and modern touches, there are occasional reports of cleanliness issues. Opinions on service are split, with commendations for staff demeanor but grievances about service speed. The location is considered prime by many, but frustrations arise due to crowded beach areas. Lastly, the hotel's value proposition has been questioned, with guests expecting more for the premium pricing.

Expectations were high for this resort on the beach and it did not disappoint. Room were large and could sleep 4, one King Bed and one sofa bed. The room was very clean and well maintained, had a mini fridge, which contained some for sale items but also had enough room to store our own things. Each room had two bathrooms, with one significantly bigger than the other but both were very nice and the smaller one was more than functional, with a shower that was much better than a typical hotel shower experience. The room AC was more than adequate, albeit a bit loud when it cycled on. Two large flat screen TV's were provided, one for each half of the larger room. The only downside to the room configuration is it would've been preferred if there was a door or partition that could separate the two sides of the room to provide some privacy for each side when desired.

The beach front view from the 7th floor was great, had a decent balcony with two chairs and a table to enjoy the view. The hotel amenities were impressive. They have a roof-top pool, a second pool on the ground floor and lounge chairs & umbrellas provided on the beach. Due to local restrictions on the number of beach chairs they can set-up there was some concern that there might not be enough chairs to meet the demand. Fortunately this was not an issue, we were able to request four beach chairs to be set-up each day we were there! Spent most of the time at the beach, which included beach service starting at noon where you could order food and drinks and have them brought to you at your chairs. The service was great though they only had one person providing service for all the guests which could've been more efficient with some help. Didn't spend much time at the pools but they never seemed crowded, looked like a great place to relax and there were always chairs available. Also, the hotel had a great shaded area, filled with palm trees, additional lounge chairs, umbrellas and even a couple hammocks. This area was outside the back of the hotel on the way to the beach, adjacent to the outdoor dining area for the hotel restaurant.

The hotel gym, was extremely well equipped with a great selection of cardio machines, weight machines, dumbbells, mats and other fitness accessories. It was not crowded and provided many options for getting in a workout during out stay. Another great option to exercise or just go for a walk was a bike path and walking trail accessible from the hotel between the beach access and back of the hotel. It spanned at least a mile in each direction from the hotel and bike rental was nearby just two blocks away.

The hotel was in a very convenient location for walking to restaurants, Publix and shops, including the very high-end shops at Bal Harbor. Leaving the hotel by car wasn't ideal, since navigating on/off of Miami Beach to downtown Miami and other spots were very busy and we encountered a lot of traffic.

Overall the service at the hotel was as good as expected, front desk, house-keeping, pool and beach staff and valets were attentive to your needs.

The downside to this great luxury experience is the price. In addition to the room rates, there were the usual taxes and service fees. There is also a daily resort fee and daily valet fee. The meals and drink prices in both the hotel and the neighborhood were reflective of the prime area of Miami Beach so plan accordingly.

This was our fourth stay and the place has gone down hill. Given the prices, this place should run much better and be cleaner.

CONS: They replaced the carpeting with tile and the rooms are so loud and echoing, the walls paper thin, we could hear every bit of conversation from next door, not to mention crying and whining kids every hour of the way in our room and throughout the hallways. Waking to crying kids at 7 AM on vacation is a true drag.

The hallways are filthy, public space carpeting and chairs horribly stained with what looked like bathroom accidents, water damage stains in the rooms.

The English language skills of the front desk staff were so poor it caused a lot of confusion and extremely lengthy, circular conversations to figure things out. I am all for multi-lingual diversity, but they should make sure the front desk staff has a higher level of skill and use those with lower proficiency in back of the house positions.

They go to extreme lengths to make sure you have no outside food on the property, even in your rooms. We had a problem with the room fridge and it took forever for them to come look at it. It would not get cold enough to store our leftovers or takeout and they told us it was only a beverage fridge, not for storing food. So we had to get bags of ice from the machine and wrap our food in it in the fridge. To top it off, their restaurant menu is much more limited than it used to be with the same offerings for lunch and dinner. If they want to strictly enforce that you eat at their restaurant, they need to at least provide better dining options.

PROS: Staff on the beach were super friendly and accommodating. (The security guard running towels on the roof left for the day with our towel card though - strange.) The views are spectacular, the layout of the rooms fantastic, and the location excellent. I love the international and religious diversity of the guests. I must note that I was upset to see a comment above about anti-semitism and felt incredibly welcomed here.

Dear Kay R., we would like to start off by thanking you for completing a review and for choosing to join us on property as one of our valued repeat guests. We just checked out of the Grand beach surf side miami hotel..our room rate was over $600 per night..upon arrival to this beautiful resort..we were told no beach chairs were available by the beach manager Carlos..that they could only use 30 percent of their chairs folie to COVID..we saw tons of empty chair that were”on hold” for people coming right back..I waited 40 minutes..no one came and claimed the chairs..finally we were grudgingly given 2 chairs..our Suite included 2 beach chairs.By 4:15 we were told they needed to clean up..we had to vacate.Next day..same deal..I spoke to beach and pool manager Sophia carbonell..who assured us she would help..nothing..again waited..until they had no choice but to release the beach chairs..I realized that the guys were taking huge tips to hold chairs!! I was more then willing to tip..but this was crazy..last day..same thing..I believe they are all on the take!! Carlos Escobar front desk was Extremely nice and professional..he asked the pool guy to please let us have chairs..also Jonathan at the entrance was very nice. The hotel is beautiful and very clean..but if they say your $600 a night room comes with a beach chair they should provide it and not only save chairs for those tipping $50!!!

Dear Betty B, we are grateful for the opportunity to welcome you to the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside and to serve you in the duration of this recent visit to Miami and the town of Surfside. While we are glad to see that you have enjoyed an overall pleasant experience as our guest and have had only positive comments to make about many members of our staff, such as Carlos and Jonathan, it has been concerning to learn about the inconvenience you were caused, when joining us beachside. We would like to begin by noting that currently beach chairs are provided at no additional fee at the hotel and are being provided on a first come, first served basis. As you mentioned the area in front of the hotel is indeed public and as such there are certain policies that are enforced by the town of Surfside and that we need to follow strictly. Unfortunately, hotel management does not have direct control over this particular policy that was mandated by the town of Surfside, which limits the total number of beach chairs, which we are allowed to have beachside at any given time during the day. We do appreciate your understanding in this regard and very much appreciate you taking the time to bring your valued observations on certain flaws, which you have noticed service wise in this area. Please do know we take your feedback seriously and have already escalated it to higher management. We can assure you that according actions will be taken to investigate this further and address as needed; guests are welcome to tip staff, if they are happy with the service that is being provided to them, but this in no way guarantees anyone a chair beachside as this area is currently strictly run on a first come, first served basis. Thank you once more. We will be pleased, if given the chance to welcome you back and to serve you again to better meet and further exceed your expectations in this particular area.

We arrived as a family of six around 830pm. Our luggage never made it up to our room and an hour later we had to bring up our luggage ourselves! It was just sitting there on a cart unattended by the entrance.

When we arrived to our room we went to call housekeeping to turn down the sleeper sofas for the kids. Only problem was that our phone line was not working! (In fact it took three days until they could remedy this. In the meantime, we had to go down to the front desk (several times) to request housekeeping who took literally hours to come.

Unfortunately we arrived just in time for the coldest night in Miami in a decade. However the heat was not working and we froze the frist two nights. They sent a service person the next day who said something about needing a part and never came back.

The front desk says all the right things, but that is where service begins and ends. They promised to make this up to us and in the end we got a fruit plate and $40 daily resort fee waived. We were thinking more like a credit for at least1-2 nights of our 5 night stay,

The room is not cleaned well at all. Floors are filthy and there was hair on the bathroom floors. Also there was a six inch crack in the mirror door of the closet which could be dangerous to a little kid. The coffee maker was also not clean and broken in our connecting room. Cant make this stuff up, but the hotel general manager was too busy to engage when we asked too sepak with him, (apparantly he oversees three properties and but I was told he was more than aware since our issues were discussed at their daily manager meetings.

Housekeeping also doesn't clean the rooms until late in the day. First priority goes to rooms for new arrivals. When we brought this up with a manager, they even asked us what time we wanted our suite cleaned by, but 10am never happened. It was just all lip serivce. Maybe if they cared more about the current guests than arriving guests, people would want to come back.

The customer service here is truly lacking and totally unprofessional!!!! Too bad this place is so mismanaged because its a nice placec otherwise.

We are a worldwide well traveled couple. We have being to every continent and happen to love Miami.
We like to stay in good hotels at great locations, therefore the Grand Beach Surfside was our choice for a 19 day vacation.
It all started off ok until the fourth night when we had the most awful experience of our lives.
That was the day my husband started having respiratory issues and I noticed that the room was filthy. There were chunks of food and lots of dust behind the bed and side tables. We immediately complained and they promised us to have the room cleaned right away. That day we came back at 8pm and the filthiness was still there. Nothing was done, they totally disregarded our concerns and the dirt was the same way it was the day before.
My husband has a tracheostomy and can’t inhale any dust.
I called the hotel management. Mr Gilbert showed up and was extremely condescending towards me and the obvious facts that I was pointing out to him. He could see the dirt and he mocked me asking if I always move the hotel furniture to look for dirt! He acted as if I was an annoyance to him instead of showing the true desire to handle my concerns and fix his property housekeeping disaster.
He made fun of me when I showed him how dirty the carpet was. He made me feel humiliated as I was not in the right of expecting a spotless room that I was paying for.
The way he acted was like defending themselves as I was saying something very strange and unreasonable, instead of using my feedback to better and improve their overall service delivery.
I was just asking for them to deliver a good service for the money they we were being charged.
After a lot of stress that made my blood pressure go sky high, they decided to move us to the other hotel tower. Unfortunately we still have to affirm that after all these days their housekeeping department’s standards need lots of improvement and cleanliness is not one of their strong features. So if you care about that, pick another property. We are honestly very sad that we will be forced to that when we return to Miami.
I must tell that today my room wasn’t cleaned up again. I trued you talk to Mr Gilbert who ignored me, and talked to another guest who he called my great friend. I talked to Fernanda who said she would makes an appointment with the housekeeping manager. I am in a vacation and don’t want to have meetings with someone who should be working better. I must clarify that my complaint was specifically directed to your property lack of cleanliness and never intended to receive ANY complimentary upgrade. While we appreciate the upgrade that we were offered, your cleanliness standards still need major improvement. In addition, your Managment team also need to be better trained not to mock the guests when they present a concern. Fernanda was very attentive but Scott Gilbert was terrible and condescending towards me.

Dear amotudoisto, thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience from our sister property - the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside West, through this channel as well. We do appreciate you taking the time to express your concerns and dissatisfaction, while you were still on premises, as this has allowed our management team to focus efforts on following up and making sure that we better serve you to meet your expectations and thus ensure you are able to enjoy a more pleasant rest of your time at the hotel. We very much hoped that the complimentary room upgrade, which was extended for the remainder of your hotel stay into our Oceanfront hotel would have lived up to your expectations and that it would have allowed you to enjoy the restful, pleasant and satisfying experience that you deserve as one of our valued, repeat guests at the hotel. Thank you once again for alerting us of your experience and giving us the opportunity to serve you. Please rest assured that your feedback was not taken lightly and that necessary follow was initiated with the respective management teams onsite in a timely manner to ensure that we serve our guests better going forward. Thank you once more for taking the time to share this review feedback. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on another occasion in the future for an improved and flawless experience.

Just wanted to start with the fact that this is one of the worst managed 4* hotels I've seen in a long time. Starting with their super rude front desk manager who should be nice especially during pandemic because people actually make a choice to stay in there, she is rude, uncooperative, very unpleasant... Never smiles... feels like you arrived in communist Russia, not USA. While other hotels offer you free upgrade during pandemic just to show you their curtesy and appreciation for supporting their business, this woman makes sure, you have the worst time by putting you in a unit with broken ac, stained curtains and walls etc...
If you have a disadvantage of already booking this place - please know you will be charged a full price of one day if you decide to cancel Even during pandemic (she told us so). So its either you stay in this terrible place or get fined 250$
Restaurant is closed, no beach service, no towel service. Never ever buy food from the cafe. Its either rock hard (macaroons) or simply stale or rotten as it’s been sitting there since they closed in March for COVID.
All that for $250/night! Stay away!

So we arrived a bit early and front desk was very gracious offered us pool cards till room was ready check in process smooth started off with a great experience at night needed a crib for a baby the gentleman came and saw my older daughter sleeping on couch with her blanket he said wait and went to get us linen set for the couch set it up as a bed made sure everyone was set and comfortable really nice guy wish i had gotten his name he should be promoted to service manager since from then everything else went down hill!
Pool needs service beach needs service common guys i paid 1800$ for 2 nights not like i got a penthouse suite was a 1 bed king suite room was beautiful view was amazing but i paid this price because was off the ocean why the heck do i needa wake up 8 am to catch a beach chair because of covid 30% capacity?? You didnt sell the rooms at 30% capacity!!! Tell me you only charge one person resort fee to make up for it? I paid 1800 for 2 nights ill pay the extra 70$ resort fee if i paid extra 1000$ already to be on beach! This is low class common first come first serve... for a 4 star hotel! Now it gets better the attendant by beach told us no kore chairs but ppl came after us and somehow he managed to find chairs for them.. next we decide to skip beach go to pool since there wqs a chair available there now was our first (and probably last time) at this hotel we ask someone to show us the pool area like every other place if its your first time they show you around but guy didn’t speak English couldnt understand us and gave us towels said enjoy he was nice guy gave us plenty towels.. then had a question from front desk called 3 times no answer had to go down and ask in person this is a no no every 2 start hotel if you press 0 someone answers. To sum it all up hotel is nice if you are looking for a nice room but service needs alot of help the only good ones were valet and housekeeping they are fantastic!

Dear Nat W, thank you for choosing to stay with us and for your review feedback. We appreciate it, when our guests take the time to share both their good and not so good impressions from our property. In this sense, it has been delightful to learn of the pleasant arrival experience you have enjoyed as well as of your satisfaction with the fantastic valet and housekeeping staff and the comfortable guest rooms we have to offer and the amazing views opening up from their balconies. On another note, we are grateful for the opportunity given to further elaborate on some of the points raised in your review to us. We understand your disappointment with the beachside experience encountered and we do wish to take advantage of this opportunity to advise that the beach area in front of our hotel is public and not private; as such there are certain policies that the hotel team needs to follow strictly, which policies are being mandated and enforced directly by the town of Surfside and are outside of the hotel management’s direct control. One such policy that was recently introduced by the town of Surfside is the limited number of beach chairs and umbrella that could be set up on the beach at any given time. We do understand how this may have affected your overall experience in this particular area, but we do hope you managed to enjoy the variety of other leisure facilities we offer, such as the rooftop pool onsite as well as the two oceanfront pools and the lounge area overlooking the ocean both situated at our hotel’s first level. We hope you will find this information to be helpful, because we would really love for you to consider trying us again as we are very confident that we can provide you with the same experience and level of comfort that a majority of our guests are very willing to attest to.

This is going to be a long review so bare with me. I have stayed at many hotels in my lifetime, ones that were more affordable and have experienced wonderful trips. Considering how expensive and stingy this hotel is, I was expecting the same.
First of all, we requested a king bed and sleeper couch. The bed was barely a king. Three girls had to sleep side ways on it just to fit. Sleeper couches are set up for us normally but the guy literally brought the sheets and ran off and I was disappointed because I had to set up my own “bed”. The sheets they gave us for the sleeper couch had many holes in it. The pillow cases had yellow crusts and we had to request more.
We had an important dinner reservation and told the valet we needed our car ahead of time. We’re waiting and waiting and no one is even reassuring us about it. Eventually we have to ask someone where our car is and why it’s taking so long. Apparently the guy didn’t speak English and brushed it off instead of mentioning it to someone.
When our rooms were cleaned, the ladies didn’t even give us new soaps and hand soaps etc. We also had to request new towels. When I called for towels the guy hung up and I had to wait so long for them when I was SO tired. I called back and the guy said he didn’t get my room number, and then claimed he brought them and knocked but we were all sitting by the door and no one knocked so he LIED to us.
Considering how much we paid, they wouldn’t let us have more than two beach chairs per room and we had more than two girls so it was frustrating.
The elevators took FOREVER. You had to wait about 10 minutes for one and when you’re carrying heavy luggage or trying to go somewhere it’s a burden.
The food was very average and overly priced. I got two simple and basic tomato and mozzarella sandwiches from that small cafe in the lobby and small orange juice and it was $38?!? It was worth $15 total.
The bathrooms were tiny and the literal faucet was loose and spinning around. Cheap.
The service was lacking overall and highly disappointing. There’s probably more to say but I’ve said enough. Save your money and go elsewhere. Management clearly doesn’t care to better this place.

First major issue with the hotel is our friends had a hard time even reaching the hotel to cancel their trip as they had a last minute positive covid case in their family. They have been denied a refund which is completely ridiculous.

The hotel itself is nice, large rooms with 2 pools and great access to beach.

The service was very poor as it’s clear they’re understaffed, likely due to covid. We heard so many people complaining at the front desk every day about missing housekeeping items, slow service at bar and restaurant. We ended up ordering most of the meals via Uber eats and had to hoard towels in advance.

The hotel has potential and if staffed appropriately with prompt service considering the very high price point, could be great.

The folks working at the beach were particularly attentive and friendly which was much appreciated. But you do need to get there by 9am to secure chairs!

Dear Lena, we do appreciate you choosing to stay with us and taking the time to review your experience. It is our understanding you were planning to stay together with friends of yours, who we are sorry to learn had a last minute positive covid case in their family. We do understand they encountered unforeseen circumstances, which prevented them from travelling. Unfortunately, they failed to notify us in any way about this prior to their expected arrival, which caused their reservation with us to run as a no-show, thus not allowing us the opportunity to resell the room as we were holding it for them. Given these particular factors, our team has only charged them for the first night of their reservation with us and has extended a courtesy of refunding the remaining balance to them, which has been accordingly communicated to the third party booking source, which they used to make their reservation with us. With this being said, we are glad to see you spent an overall pleasant time on premises and found your guest room to be spacious, the pools to be nicely appointed and the hotel to offer a great, direct access to the beach area in front of the hotel. What means the most to us is knowing you felt particularly well attended by our hard working teams beachside. Please do know we have noted your valued observations on how we could further improve the service we offer in other hotel areas, such as housekeeping. We hope you would be happy to learn that we have most recently introduced a new department head to this hotel area. We do trust that this will result in improved housekeeping service moving forward. Thank you once more for your remarks and business to our establishment. We really do hope that you will consider trying us again as we are very confident that we can provide you with the same experience and level of comfort that a majority of our guests are very willing to attest to.

I regret not having read the other reviews. We checked in to the hotel after reserving an ocean view room for a hefty price. We arrived at the hotel 11:30 PM and checked in. When we got to our room, we found towels and a mask strewn across the bathroom floor, and a half-eaten sandwich in the fridge. I called down to the front desk and was told "sorry, we can't do anything about it now as all the cleaning people have left".We then asked if at the very least someone could come and bring up clean towels, and after about 20 minutes someone came up, but refused to take away the dirty towels and the food.
In addition the wifi password did not work. My conversation with the front desk was as follows:
Me: The wifi password is incorrect.
Front Desk: Sorry, that is an IT issue and we can't deal with that at this time.

I then went down to the lobby irate, and went to the front desk person, and luckily Valet, a wonderful man (the only one here), told me that the password is not "welcome" (the one given to us) but "hello". As he put it, "welcome" was last year. I asked him why the front desk had no clue about this and he did not know. I then informed him that our room was not clean, and he said he was very upset and would try to help us out, but the staff here is "swamped".
I am astounded that a boutique hotel has the nerve to have people check in to dirty rooms, and not even be able to help us with the basics.
There was no manager available to speak to.
Don't waste your money.
