Overall, the hotel was good. The gentleman at the front desk for check-in was very nice, professional, and knowledgeable. It was about 4:30 pm check-in and he was FAST. The room didn't have that weird gross odor and the bed was mostly comfortable. The pillows SUCKED. The floor/rug was clean enough no serious stains and it didn't leave my bare feet black. The shower could have been cleaned better but it wasn't full of mold or soap scum. I did break the soap dish in the shower by accident. They came up in short order and cleaned most of it up. The breakfast was decent. I had a waffle! I'm usually always happy with waffles. There was fresh fruit, toast and bagel options, cold cereal, OJ and hot coffee with 3-5 types of flavored creamer.

I have been staying at this hotel for 6+ years. Out of all of the hotels on the 'old Florida motel strip', this is the best one. I will agree that the hotel needs a remodel but it's still clean, safe, and quiet. You are 5 minutes from downtown, 10-15 minutes from Lido Beach, and 10 minutes from the airport. The property is safe and the hotel has always provided overnight security. Yes, you will see scuffs on the walls, chipping paint here or there, or carpet that needs to be replaced. But for a hotel so close to downtown Sarasota, it's quite the bargain. So if you're looking for the perfect, fancy hotel...just drive down the road a little bit but be prepared to fork over a lot of money. Or go stay in hotels of similar price near the interstate but be prepared to sit in 20+ minutes of traffic just to get to downtown. You will get a clean room, excellent internet, and dedicated staff (many of whom have been there since I started staying) for a great value. You have a Subway right next door to the hotel and a good take-out Chinese restaurant across the street. If you want to be more fancy, drive downtown or over the Lido Circle. So to summarize, don't expect perfection when you stay here but do expect an excellent location and a good nights sleep. PS: If you have a problem, talk with the front desk. I also recommend you book directly with the hotel.

The property was older, but fairly well maintained. The desk clerks were personable and helpful. I made a reservation for a king room with sofa bed, and was told by the clerk sofa bed was more suited for children. Took the room anyway...I can handle one night on a sofa bed. Except there was no mattress on the sofa bed....never expected that. When I asked at the desk, they did not have anything else available and no mattress. Felt we should have had a price adjustment...definitely did not sleep at 3.

We chose to stay at the La Quinta because they are normally very clean and have a welcoming environment. So, we booked a King Suite for three nights and once we saw the hotel and our room, we wished we hadn't even booked it for one. The receptionist was extremely rude to us upon our arrival and also when we requested to change rooms because the first room (203) we were placed in had cigarette smoke, a broken bathroom light, and the room was filthy. The bathroom light had a short in the light switch so the light did not operate unless you touched and held the switch multiple times, but the light still hung from the ceiling. The floors were sticky, and the carpets, drapes, bedcover, and mattress were all stained, including the inside of the dresser drawers. The second room was a little cleaner; however, the bathroom floors were still sticky and you could tell nothing had been cleaned in a while. The pool is not heated and there is no jacuzzi. If you do not want your vehicle torn up by the potholes and you still choose to stay here, drive a 4x4 truck or bigger; their driveway/entryway is nothing but potholes. The breakfast provided is fair, but not worth the stay. Wyndham should disassociate themselves from this hotel immediately.

My main issue is that I was charged about $300 a night, for a property that doesn't quite meet budget-hotel standards in room cleanliness and breakfast menu. Location is good, entrance and lobby are fine, but after that, one doesn't feel pampered in any way. Yet, you might pay top dollar for this.

Not even sure where to begin. We have never stayed at a hotel that was such a disappointment! If you like to stay in a hotel that is filthy, unsafe, and needs major repairs this is just the hotel for you! When you walk in your room and are hit with an overwhelming urine smell there's a problem. The rooms in this hotel were filthy. Stained mattresses, sewage smell in the bathrooms, and mold in the showers. The rooms in this hotel needed major repairs. Non working lamps, room phones, TVs, no plugs in the sink or tub drains, no water pressure in the showers, the anti skid surface peeling off the tubs, worn out pilling sheets, toilets overflowing, and room keys would stop working at random times and have to be redone at the front desk. Wifi didn't work most of the time. If you were able to connect to wifi the connection would drop in the middle of use. This hotel was very unsafe! The back door is supposed to be key card entry only (as per the sign on the door), but the door is left unlocked 24/7. This was confirmed with the front desk staff. A drug addict was coming and going from a room all during the night. The hotel placed that drug addict in a room right across from the rooms of a girls soccer team. The lobby was filthy. The furniture in the lobby was all stained and the floors were in desperate need of being cleaned. The hotel was a mess. There were construction and renovation materials scattered inside and outside the hotel. There was a truck that set up shop in the parking lot for 2 days taking up several parking spots while working on the truck. The hotel was loud. Pets are allowed on the first floor only per the policy posted at the front desk. A dog was going crazy barking in the early morning hours on the second floor. The occupants of that room were allowed to remain in it with their dog. These issues were reported to the front desk while we were at the hotel, but the issues remained. They were then reported to Wyndham customer care. The only response received was a generic "we're sorry please come back" email from the general manager. What a complete joke!! Especially when we had several rooms that we were paying for at this hotel!
RUN FROM THIS HOTEL and any other Wyndham establishment!!

My family and I arrived at this hotel around 12:40 am, When I walked into the lobby to get the key cards it had a very strong old odor, We got to our FIRST room on the 4th floor which was the dirtiest hotel room I've ever seen, there were stains on the lamp shades, curtains, the pullout couch was the worst, it looks like it hasn't been cleaned since it was installed. We were then switched to another room on the first floor that had a double bed, This room was a lot cleaner, however when we first got in it had a strong odor, like the air conditioning was left off for days or water had been sitting for a while. After we had hotel staff spray the room, it smelled a lot better and we were able to get comfortable until we laid down and fell asleep for 3 hours, just to wake up to bed bug bites and bed bugs on the pillows. Needless to say, this ruined the rest of our trip, we got our refund and left immediately. We decided to take the 2-hour drive back home instead of going to another hotel due to this, not the best first visit to Sarasota. The only highlight of this trip was the positive interactions with the front desk staff, they are trying their hardest to bring some life to that 30-year-old hotel that clearly hasn't been kept up well.

Read any reviews on this hotel and you'll immediately know that it is an absolute dump!! The furniture is all disgusting with stains on it, foul smells in the rooms, amenities that don't work, and it is unsafe.
SHERRY HEINE is the general manager of this La Quinta. She refuses to do her job and take responsibility for not providing services for which guests have paid. Our group had multiple issues during our 3 night stay. We spent thousands on several rooms and she refuses to do her job and take responsibility for the hotel which she "manages".
Wyndham customer care is a joke as well. They refuse to help in any way.
There is absolutely no accountability or responsibility with anyone that works at or is associated with this hotel.
This hotel needs to be shut down IMMEDIATELY!!

I could live my whole life without having to spend another night at a La Quinta Inn… The elevator was broken so I had the pleasure of lugging my luggage up a staircase that is suitable only for drug deals. Tons of cigarette smoke filtered under my room, which was a distraction from the screaming kids in the room next door – unfiltered by any sound insulation. Everything in the room is 10 years past it’s useful life – and the plumbing was worse.
