Hyatt Regency Sarasota is lauded for its excellent location, close to the heart of downtown, attractions, and dining options. However, guests have called out the rooms for being outdated, noting issues such as poor maintenance and peculiar layouts. While the pool area receives appreciation, visitors express dissatisfaction with unexpected fees that diminish the perceived value of their stay. Despite cleanliness being a strong point, reviewers warn that the hotel's atmosphere and amenities could benefit from modernization. The service stands out as generally friendly and professional, though with occasional lapses in efficiency.

Each time I returned to the Hyatt after going to the beach or out for coffee, I felt like I was coming home. The staff was extremely personable and courteous, always saying thank you and offering bottles of cold water. The housekeeping staff was superb. The room was large, comfortable and relaxing. The view of the bay was beautiful. The TV had lots of channel offerings, including Turner Classic Movies, which I love! The recreational amenities are fantastic -- the pool can't be beat! It was easy to swim laps in as well as to splash around under the waterfall! It's also great to have a pool deck with plenty of chairs so that people don't have to fight over them, as happens at many over-crowded resorts. I can't say enough good things about this Hyatt. The mini-fridge had enough space to store leftovers from any number of great Sarasota restaurants. The beach is just a five-minute beautiful drive away, but you don't have to worry about the beach crowds and parking. Also, this location is great for anyone going to the Van Wezel Arts center or who wants to soak up beautiful downtown Sarasota. All in all, just perfect!

Overall, the stay was fine. I had rewards I was able to use, which negated a lot of the extra costs the hotel has, which if you don’t have, the $$$ can add up really quickly. There’s a resort fee, you have to pay for parking, and breakfast isn’t included. The pool is only open from dawn to dusk. I can’t say I loved the pillows on the bed, felt like hard mush. But now for the good:
I will mention the staff were very helpful/friendly and made checking in very easy. Our room was ready for us when we arrived. We never had trouble finding parking, though some of the spaces in the garage can be a bit tight. There’s also a nice outdoor area in the back that faces the water where you can play corn hole or enjoy some drinks. There’s a fire pit too (open for use until 8:00pm). Our room was very clean, and aside from smelling weed in the hallway one of the days and hearing someone talk very loudly on their phone on their balcony, the room was pretty quiet and we kept the balcony door open for a breeze (I will mention the balconys are by no means private. You can look over and directly see your neighbor if they’re also on their balcony, which if you’re hoping to make friends might not be a bad thing?).

Was upgraded to a high floor, King bed with a balcony room & it was comfortable for my 2 night stay.
Room was basic with a small single keurig pod coffee maker, mini fridge, safe and 2 bath robes & complimentary bottles of water at check in & in the room. the rooms / hallways & elevators could definitely use some renovations in the near future…but had everything you would need for a nice stay. Pool & Hot Tub overlooking the marina. Comfy Pillows & Bed + quiet for a good night sleep. Booked with points and would consider staying at this hotel again if they do some updates. if you want 5 star luxury - stay at the Ritz or to be closer to the beach, Lido Beach Resort.

Because my husband travels almost weekly for his job, we reap the benefits of him racking up a lot of Hyatt hotel points. He is very loyal to the Hyatt brand and has achieved Globalist status. We have had the amazing opportunity to visit many Hyatt properties. In rating our experience at a Hyatt property, we ask ourselves if we would be proud to bring family/friends back with us. The Hyatt Regency Sarasota is NOT a property we would feel good about recommending or even returning to. As far as the property itself, the best word to describe it might be "tired". It is definitely in need of some attention and care. The pool deck was dirty, one of the waterfall fountains didn't work, the exterior paint was peeling, and the carpet smelled musty. While we were there (Monday through Saturday) one of the elevators was out of service for most of that time, along with the ice machine on our floor and the floor above and below. On one occasion, when reaching for a towel hanging on a towel rod, it came off the wall and hit my foot, cutting it and leaving it very swollen and bruised. In reporting the incident, the staff was very caring, and the towel rod was replaced, but no one from management even bothered to check in. When talking with the front desk and arranging for maintenance to come repair the towel rod while we were out at dinner, I mentioned that there was no shower curtain liner and it might be a good time to have someone install one in the tub while the maintenance crew was in the room. When we got back from dinner that night, there was a garbage bag hanging on the door to our room with the shower curtain liner in it. Seriously? We were expected to hang the shower curtain ourselves? On another occasion, in the restaurant (Currents) when my husband went to pull out his chair to be seated, a staple was sticking out of the back of the chair frame and cut his finger. The restaurant staff was very attentive, removed the chair and brought him first aid supplies. Again, no one from management checked in. On our last day there, we went down to the pool and there were no pool towels. None. I went to the front desk to ask and was told "we didn't get our delivery today so there won't be pool towels." Really? I asked if regular towels could be brought out to the pool and eventually they did that. As far as Housekeeping, it was very subpar. Most days, things were forgotten (hand towels, coffee cups, bottled water, no shampoo/conditioner, etc.), and as mentioned previously, there was no shower curtain liner in the bathtub. On a positive note, the staff at the front desk and at Currents was wonderful and deserve a shout out: Scott, Marie, Bob and Jordan.

The Hyatt Regency Sarasota should be a better hotel than it is. The location is great, but both the exterior and interior are dated, run-down and uncomfortable. Nothing really pleasant or attractive about it outside, rooms are dumpy and dull. The amenity fee ($30) was NOT disclosed at booking, and there are literally zero amenities. Nothing. Everything was shut down, there's no coffee in the morning, nada. I've had better free amenities at Comfort Inns. Breakfast is overpriced and basic, staff is phoning it in, and the cleaning staff seems to be taking advantage of empty rooms, blasting TVs, playing video games, making loud calls in the hallway, using obscene language, etc.

You will be paying an arm and a leg (like $250/night+) to pay for everything: breakfast (no free breakfast or coffee) valet (no free parking) and it’s $45/day. No room service. I couldn’t believe it!! This place will try to scam you out of every last scent you have. They tried to charge us for 4 days of valet when we only used it once. Don’t book with them!

"Before booking this hotel for a vacation, I was perplexed by the extreme differences in the reviews -- so many 5s, and so many poor ratings and written evaluations. After staying at the hotel, my conclusion is that some guests have been fortunate to stay in a recently rennovated room, while others (like my wife and I) have not. There is no way at booking to know if you will receive a refreshed room or a dated old room.

Here's a copy of what I shared with Hyatt in response to the survey they sent to me:
Included in reservation was a request for a quiet room location — instead, assigned room was between the two elevators, on the front/street side of hotel, directly above entrance. I immediately went back to front desk to see if an alternate room could be assigned but was told “no…hotel is sold out.” On the first morning, at 7:00 a.m. a crane began operating outside the room windows!

On Tuesday evening, I called twice for fresh bathroom towels (at 8:45 pm and 9;50 pm). Each time I was told someone would be right up with them, but none came. At 10:20 pm, I walked down to the front desk and requested the towels. The person at the front desk went in the back and brought me two hand towels, and said he would have someone bring bath towels up. Eventually they arrived.

Pool area doesn’t have enough lounge chairs for guests, and many of the lounge chairs (blue) were inferior. No service people checking on guests around pool (e.g. drinks or food). My wife was shocked when she learned the hotel charges guests a $25 per day “resort fee!” Since Hyatt points had been used for the stay, thankfully, we didn’t incur this fee. But honestly, it was the only regrettable Hyatt point redemption in 33 years of membership (including many years as a Diamond).

Bathroom was very small and old school. Only two drawers for clothes to be unpacked into.

On the plus side, the absence of service we experienced from the start, caused us to dine out for every meal and forgo the pool for the nearby beaches. We discovered and had great meals with outstanding service in Sarasota…and traveled to three spectacular beaches.

We had never been to Sarasota before, but decided to give it a try because of past extremely positive Hyatt experiences. The hotel fell well short of expectations, but Sarasota became a place we’d like to revisit (but we’ll stay somewhere else)."

Restaurants we dined at: Selva, 1592, Mediterraneo, Bijou Garden Cafe. Excellent service and great food at all four.

Our family had been traveling all day when we checked into the hotel. I reserved two rooms for my family of four.
At check-in the front desk told us the City of Sarasota had an emergency water shut-off that caused the hotel to be without water of any kind since the morning. But we shouldn't worry, we were told, because the water was coming back soon. This was around 5 p.m.
When we asked how we were supposed to shower and get ready the front desk told us they would send us water and a "rag." A rag? Really?
We asked for a manager. A manager finally called us, apologized, assured us water would be on by 7 p.m., and offered us free breakfast in the morning.
If it wasn't almost 6 p.m. we would have left and went elsewhere. But finding a comparable hotel with two rooms at 6 p.m. wasn't easy so we made the difficult decision to stay and brave it out.
I sent my two kids to the pool with mini-bottles of shampoo and conditioner as well as bars of soap to wash themselves. My wife and I ended up freshening up as best we could with bottles of water, hand towels, and copious amounts of body spray and perfume.
When we returned at 9 p.m. there was still no water. By this points our toilets were full and the room was smelling. My wife and kids went asleep. I went down to the bar for a drink. Somehow the restaurant and bar were still open and serving food and drinks even though there was no water in the hotel.
I woke around 1 a.m. and the water was finally back.
We understand unexpected things can happen in the course of running a hotel, but not having water for such a longer period is beyond unacceptable. The hotel should have contacted incoming guests before arrival, advised them of the situation, and offered alternatives at a comparable hotel.
At least that's what competent and honest management would do.

Response from Wes Santos, General Manager at Hyatt Regency Sarasota
Responded Feb 11, 2022
Valued Guest: We understand your frustration and disappointment in your recent visit here with us. The emergency City of Sarasota water shut-off was a surprise to us also and I understand that we fell short in mitigating the issue once presented. We were extremely disappointed that the shutoff caused our water to be off for over 10 hours after it was promised to only by 5. We cannot apologize enough and did our best to compensate our guests for this very unfortunate situation. Please reach out to me directly so we can discuss this further. Wes Santos General Manager

*Disclaimer* my stay was only one night…
The over-all experience at this location was average. The rates are expensive for an average room. Sure you could argue it’s a prime location so that raises rates but you would expect a bit more bang for your buck than just an average experience. The pool looked very nice, plenty of seating and loads of room to swim about for both adults and children. The onsite parking was very nice. Plenty of spaces. Check-in was later than anticipated at 4pm. The room layout was strange, specifically the bathroom, while useable, the toilet and shower were in a small closet sized room that was claustrophobic with the door closed. The shower / tub was not the cleanest. The sink and mirror were above average and there was plenty of counter space.

On the positive side, I would say the food offered in the dining room was very good and very reasonably priced. They also offered a Starbucks coffee centre.
In general the staff were friendly and helpful.
Our negative rating is due to the rooms. The bathroom was so tiny with a toilet and bathtub almost next to each other. If someone slipped or was in trouble, the door would not be able to open. This is a serious safely issue.
There was a sink and vanity area outside the tiny bathroom. The room was a large size but only had 2 small drawers. and the curtains were ripped in places. The room was well cleaned, but a dirty pile of laundry was left outside our door for a day. I asked the main desk to have it removed but it wasn't done until the next morning. We were surprised to see a daily resort charge added to our bill upon checkout.
We expected more from a Hyatt than this. The hotel needs an update.
