Planned on staying here for a few nights last week. But left after one night. The tent sites are right on the other side of a fence from a busy street, so you hear road noises all night long and get the bright light from a nearby restaurant in Your campsite all night. The trash truck emptying a dumpster at 5:30 am right next to me was the final straw. The beach is not close by, I would say not waking distance and I like to walk. The pluses are there are several good restaurants nearby and the bike trail that runs along the road is close. I believe this is the only place to camp on Sanibel, but for the price it just wasn’t worth it to me.
It is easy to see why people have been coming to this park year after year for decades.... the tropical atmosphere is enchanting. Although it is not near the beach (3/4 mile walk), there is still a "tropical paradise" vibe. The landscaping and wildlife are wonderful and help give it the tropical feeling. I found the birds especially enjoyable. The majority of the park is park models and tiny homes, with a small area for RVs. Most of these spots are lovely although a bit snug.... The only bad section is back against the creek, as the neighbor to the back is a very noisy commercial water treatment facility. (Expect the beep beep beep of trash trucks starting at 5:45am some mornings.....). Sanibel Island itself is lovely, although not visitor-friendly. There is VERY limited parking on the island, and expect to pay $5 per hour if you are one of the lucky ones to find a spot. There are some good restaurants; I loved Traders for dinner, and Gramma Dot's for brunch. All in all, I would stay here again, provided I was not near the noisy water treatment facility.…
We are grateful that a park as nice as Periwinkle can accommodate short stays. We have had an annual week at a timeshare in Sanibel since 1984, so we already know all the nice features (beaches & extensive bike paths) of this pretty island, but it was our first time camping there. The park is so well kept and organized. A special feature of the campground is the duck pond area with the mini-zoo of types of parrots and monkeys. It is just a short half mile walk to the beautiful beach. It is a short to walk to a few restaurants and mini markets and it would be possible to take longer walk or bicycle to the grocery store. The laundry room was clean & tidy. Perfect is the best word for our visit.
The sites were packed in Sardines! When we checked the older women working there smirked like we were just silly for asking about our parking area. However when we checked out a different women was very friendly. Stay over the bridge and just visit Sanibel
very clean and organized .friendly people. good sized sights. lots of wildlife. will definitely go back. easy walk to the beach. had a chance to speak with the owner, very nice and appreciative that we stayed there.
