I was looking for hotels in more upscale areas in the panhandle. Somehow this came up. Rates seemed reasonable but then they have a lot of fees plus force you into getting insurance. So it ended up being $750ish per night for 2 bedrooms with a pool view. 2 nights at that price are more than our monthly mortgage, taxes, insurance payments on our new construction home sitting on 3 acres in another upscale Florida beach town. So for the price had big expectations esp off season & not even a Friday/Saturday. After booking had fraud on my card. I tried to contact the hotel via phone & email to correct the issue. After several days I finally received a response via email that someone would reach out to me. No one did. So we started out on our cross-country road trip. I don’t check my emails on vacation. Luckily I left a friend in charge of my emails just in case & she noticed I had a nasty email from them stating my credit card has been declined and they were going to cancel my reservation despite me already paying 50% down. I called right away but due to the time difference there must not have been anyone there. However I still haven’t gotten a call or email back about the situation and ended up having my mom try calling. She had a lengthy delay but finally got someone to adjust it. I also had asked about a Tesla or EV charger since we were traveling cross-country in a Tesla. They responded via email & said there was no EV charger. I asked again closer to the time & we were assured that there was 1 so instead of charging 30 miles away on our way in we went straight to the hotel especially since it was late & we were tired. Showed up to the hotel at 11 PM. They told us where the EV charger was. Charger was blocked by gas truck parked there. After numerous phone calls the manager eventually said that was for a different portion of the Sandestin despite being in the same gated area. They said would be a $20 fee to use it. Which is no big deal we would have paid it. They also refused to have the truck towed despite numerous signage in the area stating it was for EV only & the rules given to owners/guests. We were also told that they would not wake up the guest to have them move the car. Well that’s just freaking great. Now it’s 230AM local time & my husband has had to drive on completely dark & unfamiliar roads 30 minutes away to a supercharger just to make sure we don’t die overnight. The hotel said we could park in handicap parking & charge via standard outlet. I am not going to screw someone handicapped out of their spot. Also a standard outlet would only charge 40 mls overnight & we have lots of driving to do. I’m not sure why we as paying guests are being put out bc the truck driver cannot follow rules. Checked in to the room realized I never got a Wi-Fi code & I needed to occupy my small child while we were unpacking. Call the main number, had to go through several prompts. Got the operator. She told me that we don’t get a pass code for the individual units. But there was no other Wi-Fi. I asked to be transferred to the front desk. He said had forgotten to give me the Wi-Fi password & had it texted to me. Room itself is nice. However very little attention to detail. The scissors were broken & downright dangerous the way that they were broken. Tried to open the freezer & the whole fridge moved which shows its not anchored & could tip on a child. A cabinet handle completely detached causing a screw to hit the ground - a choking hazard. Bathroom grout discolored. Scuffs on walls. A good thing though is they have laundry machines which was Nice since we have accumulated so much after being gone for over three weeks. Have to take a shuttle to the beach - not actually on it. At this point I am regretting spending a single dime here because this was just a stopping point on the way back home to break up the driving. Being that we have killed 3.5 hrs finding a charger we would be almost home now if we had continued on instead of wasting $1500. Didn’t check in on day one until 11 PM. And are being forced out on the last day by 10 AM. Not worth the $. I can walk to the beach at home faster than I can walk here. I knew from the listing on the website we wouldn’t have a view of the beach but I didn’t realize how inconvenient it would be to actually get to the beach. Also I noticed they had three car lanes out front plus numerous cues inside. Thankfully we arrived so late we were first in line and someone came in even after us. Only imagine how long it would take to get your room based on the inefficiencies if you came at checkin. We woke up after 4 hours of sleep with a guests dogs barking incessantly and called to complain. They said they would handle. I asked how. Were they going to remove the dogs? Bc they cannot exactly ask a dog to stop barking and the owners were not there. When told them we were checking out after only 12 hours there then they said they could send someone up for the maintenance issues. Its too late for that. We were put in dangerous situations due to the actions of the hotel. They would not refund any portion of money. I understand their policies but if you treat your guests this way at $1500 price tag, don’t expect repeat guest. If you plan on visiting come to Naples instead of Destin. We are looking forward to being home in Naples and around people who put others first - not charging money despite not staying. I bet they rebook my room and make double like the other reviews have mentioned. Greedy greedy greedy! DO NOT STAY HERE. You will not be happy and they will NOT care. If you leave bc it was so unbarable you couldn’t stay a second longer they STILL won’t refund. Look at their responses to other complaints in the last few weeks (all were AFTER we booked so couldn’t cancel and had no idea what we’d be dealing with) They want their money not guests! I think they like ticking off guests so can double book when guests leave early. Good luck to those trying to deal with this place!…
We’ve enjoyed this hotel for several years. Until this year. Probably won’t return. “Due to Covid precautions” no daily housekeeping in your room. Food trays and trash sat in halls for hours. Definitely a disappointment after years of wonderful vacations. It reminded me of staying at Holiday Inn when I was a little girl. We can stay in a beachside condo for less money with same level of service, which was nonexistent. The staff we encountered were great. Definitely a corporate, not staff, issue.
This was the perfect vacation. We both play golf and there are 4 golf courses on site. We stayed at the Luau in a very nice condo. We played golf twice. Once at The Links on the 9th and Baytown on the 11th. We went to the beach every day. Our room had a view of the beach from our balcony, but we had a 300 ft walk to the beach, which was ok with us. The maintenance crew were excellent helping us store our luggage carrier. Also, helped us get through the gate. Anything we needed they were friendly and nice to us. Lots of shopping nearby and restaurants plenty to chose from. Everywhere we went, people still wore masks going into stores, etc. FL was opened back up.
We stayed for a long weekend girls trip and had a blast! Everyone was so kind but Grant ( part of the chair crew) was the best. Told us some fun spots to check out and definitely made our weekend way better.
My friends took me down to the beach for my 40th. We had the best time with the most amazing view. We had the pleasure of meeting Grant (part of the beach crew) who helped us find great places to eat in the area and was so personable and helpful. What a great guy! We are looking forward to our next trip!
