Let's start with the pros: 1) The innkeeper, Robin, is a gem. She was made to be an innkeeper, as pleasant and helpful as anyone I've ever encountered in my travels. Anything you need, she's on it. Robin was the one thing that kept this from being a two star review. 2) The location is fantastic, easy walking distance to the historic district with its shops, museums, and architecture. 3) The social aspect. This being a bed and breakfast, you get to meet other guests at breakfast time, and we had some really fun interactions with the other folks there. 4) The facility itself is charming. There is a nice porch in front, with tables and chairs, so you can enjoy your breakfast out there if the weather is nice, or just kick back and relax if that's your thing. 5) Parking is plentiful. The inn has a lot behind the building with five spots, but the driveway between the inn and the building next door is pretty narrow, so if you're driving anything larger than a compact SUV, you might prefer to park in the lot directly across the street. That lot requires that you display a permit in your windshield, which you can get from Robin. Now the cons: 1) The room. We booked the Crystal Room, as it was the only room still available for our dates at the time of booking. It's at the top of the stairs (16 steps, there is no elevator), which wasn't really a problem for us, but if shlepping your luggage up and down the stairs would be an issue for you, a different room might be better for you. This is actually a two room "suite", with a queen bed in the main room and a twin bed in the second room. My wife and I had planned on sleeping in the main room, but I have back issues, and the bed in the main room was WAY too soft for me. I ended up sleeping on the twin bed in the second room, which was much firmer. There is no way to control the temperature in the room, and it was really cold in there when we arrived. I don't know if anyone else said anything to Robin, but for the rest of our four night stay the temperature was much more comfortable. From the main room, you have to go through the second room to get to the bathroom, which really isn't a problem, but it's something you should know if you are considering booking this room. More importantly, there is no drawer space for clothing. There is a closet with hangers, so you can hang your hangable stuff there, but there is no shelf in the closet, and no furniture with drawer space, so underwear, hats, etc. had to stay in the suitcase. The room is advertised as having a whirlpool tub, and that's true, but the tub has only three jets, one on either side near where your calves would be, and one on one side near where your thighs would be. For someone like me with back issues, I would have liked to have at least one jet behind my back. If you like whirlpool tubs, and that feature is important to you, this room will probably disappoint you. There is no electric outlet in the second room (at least not that we could find), so if you want to charge your phone overnight, you will need to leave it in the main room. 2) The breakfast. I have been to bed and breakfast inns in the past, and based on my experiences I would have expected more variety. The breakfast at Southern Wind consisted of two types of cereal (Honey Nut Cheerios and granola, same ones every day), a fruit tray (with watermelon, canteloupe, honeydew, pineapple, grapes, and strawberries), a selection of breads (bagels, English muffins, cinnamon raisin bread), coffee, tea, orange juice, and one hot breakfast entree cooked by Robin, which changed every day (frittata, quiche, etc.). To spread on the breads, there was butter and jam (no cream cheese). The other bed and breakfasts I have been to had a selection of entrees from which to choose, which they would prepare to order, and they also had a wider selection of cereals. To be fair, Robin doesn't have a lot of help, so doing different dishes for different people might be a bit much, and the general consensus was that the breakfast entrees were very good, but if it happens to be something you don't like or can't eat, you're limited to the cereals, fruits and breads. Don't expect a typical hotel breakfast buffet. All in all, despite the shortcomings of the facility, it was a fun stay, mainly due to Robin, the other folks we met there, and the proximity to St. Augustine's historic district. For me, the most important part of a hotel or inn is a comfortable night's sleep, so I would not stay at Southern Wind Inn again.

Property's Favorite Review
Southern Inn resides in an ideal location between the busy downtown restaurants and the historic sites, including the Lightner Museum and Flagler College. The neighborhood, however, is quiet in the evening with accessible parking across the street free of charge. The old house is charming, and the rooms are clean and bright. Robin, the Hostess, is wonderful and available to answer any question regarding St. Augustine or to provide any additional amenities. Coffee, fruit, and pastries are available by 7:30 and a fabulous warm breakfast is available at 9 am. We certainly will be returning to Southern Wind Inn on our next stay in the area.

The only plus to staying at this Inn is the location because it's within walking distance to St. George Street. Our room (the Flower Room) was nothing like the pictures on the site and smaller. The property is old and in disrepair. The so called "new owners" don't seem to be doing renovations they state they are. The back of the Inn is deplorable. The stairs going to the room were as another guest called them "death stairs". They are uneven and unsafe. The building is dirty and needs a pressure wash and the steps look like they haven't been swept in years.. In the small parking lot, there is junk piled up against the fence. Forget breakfast. You have to ask for it from 9am to 9:30 am. St. Augustine is my favorite place in Florida and I visit every year but never again here where false advertising is ok. To the owner/manager: Don't bother replying to this review making excuses for running a potentially great Inn into the ground!

Great location for walking to Flagler College, plaza, etc. Innkeepers are very sweet. Loved my room..the Garden Room. Private entrance. It was very clean and comfortable. The only negative for me was the breakfasts. Entree just ok and almost the same..some sort of loaf both days. Parking was good.

The Southern Wind Inn bed and breakfast had it all! The absolute perfect location that was literally centrally located to everything. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to visit and found so many great places we walked upon while exploring this beautiful city. Parking is free and literally right across the street from the Southern Wind Inn in a large secured parking lot. The inn keepers Robin and her daughter Michelle, I cannot say enough about how lovely and kind the two of them are. They instantly make you feel welcomed with their warm personalities and eagerness to tell you all about the local gems of the cities that you must visit on your trip. Robin and Michelle truly go above and beyond to make your stay beyond special and memorable. These ladies take pride in The Southern Wind Inn as the home and rooms are spotless, the bed was very comfortable and homemade breakfast in the morning is absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a romantic getaway in a great city at a fantastic bed and breakfast? Then look no further then The Southern Wind Inn.

Stayed in the Coquina room which was not the room I booked. The room was very small and dirty. The bed was not comfortable and pillows flat. There was nowhere in the bathroom to put anything except a wobbly shelf unit over the toilet. I was afraid my things would fall into the toilet. The entire property in very rundown. No AC control in the room so the room was humid. Not even a night stand next to the bed. The entrance to the room was from the outside in the back. The stairs are in need of repair and I nicked named them the death stairs. There was old appliances and trash under the outside stairs. Looked like a junk yard. Breakfast time was 9:00 to 9:30. In my opinion, too late and small window of time. You would think the new owners of this property would want to make it nice but not the case. Will not be returning to the Southern Wind Inn.

My Significant Other and I just spent several days at this charming St Augustine Bed & Breakfast. The managers, Robin and Melissa, were personable and helpful, and by luck, we even got to meet some of their extended family. Breakfasts were delicious. St George Street, where most of the Old City action is, is within easy walking distance of this inn. A bonus is the large veranda, where we could eat breakfast, have coffee, hang out and talk with the other guests, and watch the horse-drawn wagons go by. I already miss this place.
