This place is not exceptional. But it is the only place to get a beer or bite to eat while you are on lake talquin. I wouldn't make it a point to go here, but it's satisfactory. I'd stick to things that they sell a lot of so that you don't have to worry about storage time.

Let's be honest, this place is a fish camp, but several cuts above what one would expect. If you're an avid fisherman and tired of staying at run-down fish camps with few amenities, the Whippoorwill Sportsman's Lodge is your place to go. My wife and I have stayed here 3 times with our 4th visit coming this fall. We recommend one of their cottage rentals. Fully equipped kitchen, living room with flat screen TV, free wifi, washer/dryer, porch, and a few steps to your own covered boat slip on beautiful Lake Talquin with excellent fishing. Bait and tackle and local grocery store are just a short walk from your cottage. The Whip restaurant is right there, a laid-back casual atmosphere with outdoor dining and really good food. Car and boat access to the restaurant, with sunsets you could put on a postcard and send to your friends.

While visiting friends in this area, we had dinner at The Whip one night. The ribeyes were delicious as was the iced tea. Cheyenne, our server, did a great job taking care of us. The only negative was being seated next to a very large, noisy party celebrating a birthday; it was difficult to have a conversation until they left. Overall, I'd love to visit again if I have the opportunity.

We went to the "Whip" for lunch. Seafood dip was okay. We got it since smoked salmon dip was out. Had the nachos, the quesadillas, two huge burgers, chicken fingers, and specialty soup. All the food was very tasty. Several craft beers on tap and many more in can or bottle, all around $5. Sandwiches ran $11 to $15 with a side. No french fries. Would have liked to see a fish sandwich of some sort at a waterfront cafe for lunch. There was room inside so we sat in AC, but most of the dining is outside. Sadly the windows hadn't been cleaned in quite a while, but the view was still very nice. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Average wait time for food. We arrived in car, but plenty of room to park a boat or pontoon and come in for food and drink. Overall, very satisfied and will definitely stop in again, particularly since we bought property a few miles away. Since they also have a campground and marina, it seems to be a win-win place to visit!

We stayed here a week because we were doing local nature hikes throughout the area. We were thrilled to find a lakeside home with a kitchen & deck for &75/night. The place was Quiet, peaceful, clean and with friendly owners. Highly recommended.

If you are unfamiliar with North Florida the drive to this place is going to feel pretty isolated even though its just about 10 minutes off the interstate. Gravel parking lot, bait shop and convenience store items up front with a small bar and some indoor seating before reaching the weather worn deck and boat slips. We sat on the covered dock on a high top. Yes, its a functional dock so don't expect any "eat of the floor" cleanliness beyond the tables and chairs themselves. They had a limited special menu the night I was there but both of the items we ordered were spot on in presentation and preparation. The beer and wine menus were by no means exhaustive, but they had a pleasantly surprising variety of craft and mass made beers. The downside - the place was only about 60% full. We had sat down at 5:30 and barely made it out by 7:00. Not sure if it was due to the special menu for the night or this is typical, but don't be in a hurry. If you accept the casual setting.....I guess if you were in a hurry you wouldn't pick this place anyway. The tab (which included 3 beers, a $28 bottle of wine, and one dessert) was $125 so I would estimate the dinner price at around $30 a person.

Worth the drive from town. The place faces west so great sunset. Kerri was a wonderful waitress. Clientele was chill. Kids & dogs running around. The campground was country but not trashy or junky. Nice, clean & orderly.

This review is only about the dining experience there at the restaurant. This was not the easiest place to find and definitely off the beaten path, but worth it. You get a great view of the lake, especially at sunset. The food was good and even though they advertise the service is bad you'll be surprised to find courteous and helpful servers like we did. We were there for a special occasion and they were very accommodating. The old building has a lot of personality and the outside dining is really nice. Price range is $7-$12 for most things. Ask for the brisket nachos!
