Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort offers a retro-themed atmosphere that captivates many guests, accompanied by family-friendly amenities like inviting pools and a lazy river. However, some visitors have been troubled by loud noises from both the hallways and within the rooms. The staff often receives praise for their helpfulness, although issues with room maintenance and housekeeping are noted. While opinions on the resort's value are mixed, the convenient location near theme parks is a highlight for travelers, despite calls for more varied dining options.

Love the mid-century vibe, but it’s getting a little run down. Housekeeping was awful! Didn’t make the beds or clean the room one day and said we had a Do Not Disturb sign which was not true. Waited forever to get clean towels sent to the room. Not the best experience after being at Universal all day.

As someone who has stayed in a good number of Disney hotels over the years, this was my first stay in a Universal property. I traveled with my wife and sons (both aged 12) and we stayed for a few nights. This place is fantastic, it has a great theme with 50s vibe, two wonderful pools, but the icing on the cake was the lazy river! Our boys spent hours in that, it was a highlight of the trip. Meals were great with plenty of options, the staff were awesome, and the transport to the Universal parks was reliable and efficient. We’d happily stay here again!

We loved the mid-century decor throughout the property. They did a great job with that. We has an 8th floor 2-queen bed room facing Volcano Bay. The view was a highlight. Our reservation across the street at Aventura was not fully executed, and they were full, so we checked at Cabana Bay across the street. They took care of us and had a room ready to check-in at 1:00 PM. Room was clean, and bright, and we really enjoyed the retro touches. We will bring our own pillows next time, and will not hesitate to book here again. Bus transit to parks was convenient. Also, Vy at the front desk was very personable and very efficient.

Everything about staying here was great. The key cards are personalised and you get to keep them which is a nice touch. The rooms are a great size for a family of five or even 6! There is a proper storage area for your luggage and plenty of space to move around. The kitchen facilities are good but we didn’t use them much. There is a fridge and a microwave. The laundry facilities were great $3 per cycle and you can pay by card. Wish I’d bought detergent earlier in the holiday though. Again to buy on site is $3 per wash as they come in individual sachets so not expensive but my son needed a sensitive skin detergent which was easily available at Walmart. I left behind the excess for others to use. I would have packed less if I’d known how good the washing facilities were before going. The pools attached to the hotel were lovely and the kids enjoyed the lazy river and the pool with the slide. Volcano bay is a very short walk away from the internal family rooms in the continental building. Parking was easy, there was always a space. I really loved staying here and would love to return.

The mattress was sunk in at the center, and very, very soft, No support at all..my husband kept rolling into me. None of the buildings are marked, we had to slow down to see the building names on small plaques outside each bldg. The staff was very nice and helpful, that was the only plus.

As a UO member, my stay was horrible. We picked a pool view and got a view of a laundry mat. We was not notified that there was no more pool view rooms until we called about it.The bathroom doors didn’t close and the shower and tub ran at the same time.

I had a very pleasant room in the Americana building with a great view of the water activities. I love the 50's/60's vibe of the whole property. It's such a great retro feel with lots of clever touches everywhere. So it would have been a great stay, EXCEPT... I think the mattress was actually from the 50's!!! I've stayed in $79 fleabag hotels with more comfortable bedding. Was it just my room (6716)? I hope so. Because in this day and age of middle-of-the-road places having comfortable pillow-top mattresses, this place is really banking too much on their throw-back decor and too little on a comfortable night's rest.

Cabana Bay was the perfect home base for our Universal vacation. The resort has spacious rooms, good food choices, amazing pools and lazy river, and super easy shuttle service to the parks. We spent our days in the pool and our evenings in the parks. This is definitely a family resort with lots of young children having fun. It is not the place for someone looking for a quiet relaxing vibe. The resort is clean, well kept, and the retro “feel” runs throughout. It is not fancy or upscale, but for the price point felt like excellent value.

Currently staying here for my friend’s birthday. We booked the family suite which has two beds and a pull out. We checked in yesterday and first thing I noticed was the not so clean room. There was this weird sticky stuff on the wall which was noticeable enough to us. Not sure why housekeeping missed that. We had to clean it off ourselves. Second, the bathroom. The toilet is separate from the shower which was nice BUT the shower area was so small it felt almost too claustrophobic. No vents for the shower so if you like hot showers, enjoy the steam. Tiles by the edge of the tub were gross and cracking. The water pressure is absolutely TERRIBLE. We tried every setting and it just was so bad. We have a large group so our other friends booked a different room-also family suite- and they said the water pressure was also terrible. So I’m guessing this is common in all rooms. If you’re looking for a relaxing shower after a day at the parks, I would not recommend this hotel. Toiletries are basically close to nonexistent. They gave us one thin body soap for 6 people. They also just provided 4 pillows for 6 people. The decorative pillows on the beds were dirty and looked like they haven’t been cleaned. The bed spreads had this weird smell on them. I don’t even have the words to describe them. We just put them on the floor. The staff at the diner were rude and not helpful at all. I saw another review here that the bus drivers are also rude—I can say that it is true. We always say good morning to bus drivers at Disney and we get the same courtesy back. But Universal bus drivers just look miserable. One guest ran for the bus and asked if it was going to Cabana Bay and she got this sarcastic response from the driver “maybe, maybe not.” I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to answer her question with professionalism? Next: The diner was underwhelming. We bought the refillable cup for the duration of our stay. Most of the drinks were not working. We left for the parks at 7:30 this morning. It is now 6PM and housekeeping still hasn’t come to empty our trash. Towels look way too reused and have discolorations on them, I even found a towel with old lipstick marks on them. I truly wanted to love this hotel. I loved the idea of a retro theme. I have stayed here for a night two years ago and I do not remember it being this bad. Please please save yourself the aggravation and money and book another Universal hotel or somewhere else altogether.

The room was very nice, but the kitchen tile border was broken and we almost cut our feet on it. My mother also got food poisoning from the cafeteria style dining. The positive thing I liked was it was very close to Universal and there are busses to and from the park. Even if you ignore the various other food poisoning reviews on this hotel, the non poisoned food was not at all good. Recommend not eating anything from the cafeteria.
