Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside is often praised for its convenient location near parks and transportation, offering a relaxing, Disney-inspired ambiance that many guests appreciate. However, the resort receives mixed reviews when it comes to cleanliness and room conditions, with some travelers reporting unclean and outdated rooms. While the themed decor and friendly service earn positive comments, the value proposition is questioned due to perceived high prices, especially for food, and outdated amenities that some suggest need improvement.

My daughter and I stayed here from February 4-9, 2024 and were absolutely blown away by this resort hotel. First and foremost the property itself it’s beautifully themed and absolutely immersive. We had a royal guest room and couldn’t ask for more in terms of Disney decor and the beds were shockingly comfortable especially after 12 hour days in the park. Upon check in and throughout our stay the cast mates working on property were so so friendly and helpful from the lobby staff to the Riverside Mill workers and the people at Fultons. Even the housekeeping and maintenance staff were friendly and smiling. The resort itself is massive and they don’t overcrowd areas so it was always pretty quiet and calm. Location was ideal for park days as it sits only about 10 minutes away from the four main parks by Uber or complimentary bus. I cannot say enough good things about Riverside. I would absolutely choose this resort again.

I had visited Riverside on a previous trip as a child and enjoyed it, so it was an easy choice for a stop on our Honeymoon when we were looking for a moderate resort. We opted for a Preferred room, which was well worth it for the location for the minor increase in cost in our opinion - the food court was near and we were equidistant to the south and west bus stops, meaning we could get on and off first when travelling to and from the parks. The room itself was nice enough, though nothing particularly special. We didn’t end up using any of the pools as we were too busy, but we did use one of the washing facilities nearby which was very convenient. It was well located between the parks meaning no bus journey was ever that long, and the resort is large enough that there’s a steady stream of transport options running, without us feeling lost in the grounds since our room was well located. The food court is good, though if you have time it’s definitely worth a stroll down to the neighbouring French Quarter to try out theirs as well. Having stayed at both value (All Stars) and deluxe (Animal Kingdom Lodge) resorts before, I would strongly recommend Port Orleans Riverside if you plan on being in the parks every day but want an elevated experience with a nicer setting and theming.

Adam, firstly, happy almost one year anniversary! Secondly, thank you for spending such a magical moment with us for your honeymoon! If there is one thing every Cast Member loves it is celebrating memorable moments in our Guests' lives. It sounds like your room location was quite ideal for many things during your trip, I am a big fan of our Preferred rooms too, knowing I am close by transportation is surely a bonus. I am sorry you were not able to make use of the pools, hopefully next time! Whether you visit with us on the bayou again or try a new Disney Resort, I look forward to reading about your next stay and hope it will be magical. Alexa Disney Social Reviews

We stayed as a family (20 year old, 15 year old and 2 parents) in the Royal Guest Room at the Riverside resort. I was worried about only having the one bathroom after staying twice int Art of Animation with our family. I was wrong! This room was amazing! It had a separate sink area that had curtains for privacy and room to get ready while others slept or showered in the water closet/ shower room. The room was charming, clean and lovely. The room had such fantastic touches of Disney magic and came in at a wonderful cost since it is considered a moderate resort. We were able to be close to the bus stop, water taxi area and a short walk to the French Quarter sister resort. I highly recommend this resort to families or for couples. It is a great way to be close to Disney Parks but also be in a quiet world away as well.

Why, thanks so much for joining us down on the bayou, darlin'! I'm thrilled to hear your family had a royal stay awaiting you at this Resort. As you mentioned, I love the special touches our Royal Rooms offer with portraits of some of our princesses and even a shower curtain that displays little icons from some of your favorite movies. No detail goes unnoticed here! Thanks so much for telling us all about your stay. We look forward to seeing you along the Sassagoula River again soon now, ya hear! Nina Disney Social Reviews

A family trip to Disney. This is my 3rd visit to Disney.
The plus points. The hotel is nice, clean and well equipped. The shop is large and staff friendly enough. The pools are fun and open long hours. Overall to look at the hotel is very nice.
The minus points. Eating in the main restaurant is chaos. No one knows what they are doing. If you family wants different things to eat prepare not to eat together at the same time. Its like the wild west. The food is not great either. Its mass produced expensive slop. A little hint if you want a bottle of wine in this canteen is to buy it from the shop as its a quarter of the price almost form the shop. I can say that we did not have 1 meal here that was really good.
If you want to have a drink from the pool bar these are very expensive indeed. The soda cups that are provided need to be empty before the pool staff fill them. So if you have a hot drink in them before hand you need to wash them before and the only place is the toilet we found. Also then if you want a refill and you are in your room the only places are the main canteen and the pool bar when its open. A long walk for a class of soda.
They do have boats running from this hotel but if its a bit windy they don't run so prepare for long bus queues. The location of the resort means that you will always have long bus rides to the parks.
Overall the hotel looks lovely and the rooms are large and nicely decorated but once you get past this its just another Disney rip off.

I appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your recent visit. I’m happy to read that you found the Resort beautiful, most of the amenities were a good fit for your family and our Cast Members were friendly and attentive. I am sorry to read about your concerns with Riverside Mill Food Court and the options that were offered. We always want our Guests to have access to a wide range of food options that are of good quality and I apologize that we didn’t meet our mark. I will be sharing your feedback with the appropriate Leadership team. Thank you again for your review and I truly hope that we will have another opportunity to welcome you and your family again soon! Upon arrival the hotel looked great with a wonderful huge Christmas tree and relaxed well decorated reception area.

It seems automation rules and coordination between park and properties is not effectively communicated to the guests.

Items that took over an hour to resolve; Pin for the magic bands, Magic Express (pure luck I asked and received extremely rude treatment from one concierge, only to go to another line and have the issue fixed the following day).

Disney refillable mugs are available in the main food court and this was not advised to us, we had to phone to discover this. The only place to fill the mugs is at the food court which makes for a long walk, in addition the staff stated the cups can be used in some places in the parks (they could not advise where), we did not find and could not identify these places, however the cups were useful to have at the water fountains in parks.

Understanding the bus stops was not evident at check in. Everything is a walk at this property. The buses do run regularly but most of the time going to the park was super crowded with standing room only. We did enjoy the easy access to Disney Springs and the relaxing river trip getting there.

The property and grounds are beautiful, as are the buildings. We even got to see an alligator one morning.

However due to an unfortunate incident (no fault of the hotel) the main pool area was shut off on the afternoon we went. We then returned to the pool near our room.

Our room was at Parterre place, it was clean and well maintained, although the sinks from the bathroom were separated by a curtain which was a novel concept. I would add that the decor of the princess room gave the place a look of having been stained by years of smoking, unfortunate decoration choices from Disney (?) The fireworks on the bed heads were a good gimmick that the children enjoyed. TV selection was good and the tea and coffee facilities were really appreciated given the distance to the main buildings.

The food court was okay for breakfast but could get crowded, and it took us a while to figure out we had to ask at the cashier for a cup to allow us to get coffee with our morning meal. The Mickey waffles were a hit with the family. Dinner was adequate, but Disney's quick service meals are nothing to write home about this applies across the parks too, it is far better to utilize the table service dining.

The children loved the huge arcade it was well worth buying them a card to enjoy their time in their as well.

I must say half the staff were amazing here however we met some which were down right rude and this is not something I expect at any hotel.

This was our first and last time at a Disney World property we will not return to one of these resorts and will continue to stay outside when going to Disney World. The whole shine that was there decades ago has gone and the Disney magic which you get in Paris Disneyland is not evident.

Though you and your family enjoyed some aspects of this Resort, I’m sorry to hear it left you with an overall feeling of disappointment and hesitation to return. I’m especially saddened to learn some of your interactions with our Cast Members did not reflect the outstanding Guest service we pride ourselves on delivering across all of our properties. My family (minus our 15 year old son who was at Disney with his HS band) stayed at Riverside and really enjoyed it. The rooms are comfortable except they do not have microwaves so you have to walk to the food court to warm up leftovers.

The beds were comfortable and ours even had a pull out bed disguised as a shipping box for our 6 year old to sleep on. The room itself was decorated with a room divider decorated with a scene from The Princess and the Frog and the shower curtain had Ray from the movie on it.

The entire area is planted with trees, bushes and plants you might find in the bayou. There were little man-made ponds and a river that takes you, via boat, to the French Quarter resort and to Downtown Disney. It was not running while we were there due to the Coronavirus scare. There were several swimming pools and the big one on Ol' Man Island (which is accessed via two bridges) was nice. It went from 3 feet to almost 5 feet in depth and had a little water slide and buckets that poured out water. The day we went the cast member working had the kids playing games and was trying to get everyone involved. That evening we went to the S'mores campfire, which is held every night. All you can eat marshmellows or you can buy a package of chocolate and graham crackers for $5 and make your own smores .

The food was good. It was the typical burgers, chicken strips, steak fries, pizza, etc but it was good. We ate at Boatwrights, the main restaurant, and I had the All you care to eat plate. It was brisket, sausage, ribs, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and a dessert. It was really good.

The staff was very friendly. I lost my magicband on a ride and the hotel gave a credit for me to get a new one. Then my daughter lost her Mickey ears and the lady in the gift shop gave her a pair free.

The location is very good. You can walk to the French Quarter resort in about 10 minutes for some excellent beignets. There are also 4 bus stops located around Riverside so you don't have to use the one at the front entrance.

Riverside is a really nice resort. We like staying at different locations and would recommend this one to anyone wanting to go to Disney

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The activities around the resort, including roasting marshmallows were fun and the staff handling those activites were great with the kids.

It took nearly 7 hours to get the luggage to our room despite Disney stating to be prepared for a max of 3 hours. The bell staff was difficult to get help from as they were busy with their personal conversations amongst themselves. They had difficulty finding packages which were sent in advance. Be aware of the package handling fee - I was caught by surprise by this $15 charge.

You will receive a gift card if you decline room services (cleaning). I declined cleaning and left some things out since I didn't expect anyone to enter our room. Housekeeping entered anyway.

Raising concerns to the hotel manager about our experiences resulted in a hand written note apologizing for 'any inconvenience we may have experienced.'

OK, let's start with the negative:

The hotel rooms don't include a bedside lamp or clock. Those are pretty basic and essential things for travellers and we found it odd that they weren't included. The pools are maintained at a temperature that is slightly too chilly at this time of year (January) although this seems to be an issue with all Disney hotels and not just this one, based on my experience. The cafeteria seems to offer a more limited menu than other Disney hotels, including Value hotels like Art of Animation.

Now for the positives:
All the staff we met, were very polite and friendly. That was great. Also the grounds were spotless. The boat ride to Disney Springs was really nice and the boats are frequent, which is convenient. The distances to all the Disney parks is quite reasonable - especially Epcot - which makes this hotel very convenient. Beds were very comfortable.

Honestly, if they added a couple of basic things to hotel rooms this hotel would merit a 5 star review.

We booked a stay here for one night because we live close and wanted to take some maternity pictures on our own. We've always loved the Port Orleans resorts because they feel tucked away from everything and have very quaint themes. We do like French Quarter a lot more, but it wasn't available the night we were staying. We paid more than I would've liked, but there weren't a lot of options. We ended up booking a 5th sleeper room with garden view (all they had available) directly through Disney with our AP discount.

Here are the pros and cons of our stay:

Pros
1. Great arcade-we love playing pinball at the resorts and some of them have really downsized their arcades. Riverside still has a great one with lots of games
2. There are decent dining options to choose from
3. The overall theme and the quick walk over to French Quarter
4. Check in was very quick and we were able to get a room at 9:30 am when we arrived which was fantastic. It gave me the chance to change into my clothes for pictures

Cons
1. We had LOTS of issues with smoking at this resort. I've never seen so many people smoking in non-smoking areas before. There were two men staying in a room close to us that were constantly standing outside their door smoking. It drifted up to our room and smelled horrible. There were also a lot of people just walking the paths and smoking. I didn't complain because we were only there for one night, but I think this needs to be enforced better or they could have better signage for designated smoking areas. The one or two we saw were very vaguely marked that you almost wouldn't know they were smoking areas at all. I had to hold my breath many times because I'm pregnant and don't want to breathe that in
2. Our bathroom was very dirty. There were long black hairs all over the shower wall, the tub was slow to drain and filled with water during our showers, white stains on the brown part of the shower, and the water pressure was really low
3. Dirty floor in room (this is something that we've noticed in all of the resorts with the new laminate flooring)
4. I wasn't able to use Wifi the entire time we were in our room because the signal was so bad. Luckily, I was able to use my data just fine

Unfortunately, I think the cons outweighed the pros on this visit. We've stayed here before and loved it, but it just wasn't the same this time. The smoking was a real issue and the cleanliness of our room also bothered us. We probably won't be back again for awhile with how the prices are right now.

Hello, Haley. Thank you for informing us of your recent experience at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside. While it seems your family enjoyed elements of your stay, like the great proximity to Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter and the Medicine Show Arcade, I would like to sincerely apologize for the negative experiences you've had at the Resort. It really seems as though each of these situations you've mentioned has added up to create some real dissatisfaction in your stay, and I completely understand why. I am so very sorry for the disappointing level of both Guest service and cleanliness you have received during your stay, as here at the Walt Disney World Resort, we take such pride in providing a high level of service to each and every one of our Guests, and that does not seem to be what your family has experienced. At Disney Resort hotels, smoking is permitted in designated outdoor smoking areas. However, smoking is not permitted in Guest rooms or on balconies, so I do hope you took the time to make a Cast Member at the Front Desk of your Resort aware of this concern, as they would be best able to assist. We would like the chance to learn more about this situation, so we may share your concerns with Leadership at the Resort directly. We are sending you a Private Message to your Tripadvisor inbox so we can discuss this with you further. Thank you, Kim Disney Social Reviews

The last time I went to WDW (21 years ago!) I stayed here. It felt like I was was walking back in time:)

The new online check in is amazing! Just be sure to ask for bell service to your room if you'd like it. It can be a bit confusing at 11:30 at night to find your room:)

We stayed in a 5 person room in the Alligator Bayou rooms. A quick 2 minute walk to the cafeteria. It was a 5 minute walk to the West bus deport which I recommend since that is the first pick up if you'd like a shot at a seat.

I was pleasantly pleased with the food in the cafeteria. My complaint there is that it took some time to get a slice of pizza and macaroni for the kids. Mickey ended up paying for our kids meals (1 adult entree and 3 kids) because I think one of his helpers saw how long I was waiting. Let me say that smiles and simple interactions can go a long way.

We also ate at the restaurant. The food was good but the menu was limited. Service was fantastic. I'd recommend a reservation just for sanity sake.

The boat to Disney Springs was a nice perk and relaxing both day and night.

We had an unfortunate series of events with our room that I did speak to the desk about and they did everything they could to make up the magic. Just make sure you have a do not disturb on your door. They are respectful of that. We didn't have one and had to ask for it.

I'd also like to make a shout out that Disney does their best to find lost items. We left my daughters rain jacket in the cafeteria and through a website I was able to make a claim. 2 days later I got an email that they will return it to us via mail:)

I do want to apologize for the few hiccups you experienced during your time with us, but it sounds like our Cast Members were able to turn it around for you! Hi there! I stayed in November so can definitely help and answer. So you still have access to everything like the pools and so on on day of check out. If you head to the main pool at port Orleans there's a shower and changing rooms (you will need your own shower gel etc) and washer dryer facilities too if you wish to freshen up your clothes too :) You will be able to leave your suitcases at the suitcase bay just outside the main hotel doors too so you don't have to hang onto them all day. Most pools provide towels too so you don't need to unpack your own. I also recommend the refillable drinks cup you will be able to use your entire stay including check out day so you can keep refilling right up to the minute you leave. We was there 10 nights and used till 6pm on check out day. Hope this helps! Aimee

We are from UK too :) We couldnt get a kettle (wasnt any available) However we made our own solution. We used the coffee machine provided as the coffee machine in particular was coffee in bags so instead of using a coffee bag use a tea bag instead :) did the job for us. We got some milk from the shop. Done! There are tea bags in the eating area but we took yorkshire tea with us :) Hope this helps if you cant get a kettle!
