We went to Danum Valley before Bilit. Go to Danum if you want an authentic jungle experience. Bilit however is a great opportunity to see 100s of primates on the huge river as well as water monitor lizards, crocs and hornbills from the comfort of a boat and to stay in comfortable accomadation with meals provided. It is however a large operation which does process tourist and the jungle walks are a little tame. You will have a good time here though.

I'm really sorry but I cannot say I enjoyed my stay. I thought I was going to as place where you could see animals that were respected and not disturbed. What I found was far from that. It's true that animals are in ther habitat (it's obviously not a zoo), however, the boats get too close to the animales and make so much noise they get scared... There are too many boats going up and down the river everyday contaminating the water and making do much noise... Surely that's not good for the animals!! Also we were told we were going to do like a jungle trekking. This was just a walk in the backyards of the resort and to top of off the guide couldn't answer any of our questions... You can also see the palm oil plantations just at the back of the resort which makes you think surely there's no much space for the poor animals to live... Overall I left the place feeling very sad but I learned a lesson and I will make a deep research before going to similar places.

I was surprised by all the positive reviews but I have seen most of them have not been here during peak saison. Maybe that makes the difference. During peak saison (July, August) I cannot recommend this place. It is packed with people and feels like mass tourism. Everything is strictly organized but lacking quality. Nearby are other resorts that are much smaller and less packed. No real vegetarian food (you just get offered the side dishes and dry rice) even when asked before booking the place if they will offer it... After complaining we finally got offered some tofu but not really a well tasting vegetarian dish. The nightwalk is a 30 minutes walk around the resort... We had other nightwalks in the dschungel (Bako or Mulu) and you cannot compare them to this experience. The cruises are done with big boats (25 people in each boat) and by this are less flexibel and most of the time we could not get close to the animals. They drive with high speed in the middle of the river and our guides only spotted animals if other boats had already found them and he could then join them. In most cases crocodiles then were gone already. The standard answer you will get it is: that is wildlife you cannot be sure to see animals. For sure you cannot expect to see elephants and all animals closely. But if you have good guides and smaller boats you will definitely see more. But you will definitely see some birds and monkeys. Nice is that tea and water is offered all day and people are generally friendly. We had one nice guide and one nice walk with a guy called Riad. All in all we disappointed and sad that we could not experience this environment in a smaller resort with a more personal atmosphere, better guides and especially smaller boats... It is an expensive experience therefore I would definitely recommend to choose another resort!

I arrived here with 7 other people. Our cabins over looked a pond which was quite nice, there is a board walk to each of the cabins. I am vegan and I felt like the food was plentiful, I certainly didn't starve. I wouldn't rave about the food either but then I didn't come for the food. On the river cruises we saw lots of wild live, monkeys, a herd of 20 elephants. We went out twice on the river and it was quite beautiful, not to mention the birds. We did two night walks and although we did see a civet cat and many birds, not much else. We trekked through mucky mud but you can rent boots. The mosquitoes are an issue so bring lots of insect repellent. I really loved my time there. The staff were very accommodating. It is true that the palm oil plantations are nearby and are impacting the wildlife but there is a green corridor of rain forest and the river. It would be great if the palm plantations were bought out by conservation groups.

I think this place doesn't deserve all good opinions It has. Jungle trekking just around the Lodge so imposible to spot anything. River cruises quite similar (after the first one is quite repetitive). Very difficult to spot anything else than monkeys. Long hours with nothing to do and nowhere to go between activities...If you planning to go there the 2D1N package would be enough, 3D2N was not worthy at all
