We have been going here for 36 years. It is a tropical paradise. This year the cleaning was immaculate relieving any worries about the virus. It was open with masks suggested in groups but not required on the resort. My only complaint it the desk staff who always seem irritated that owners come. I cannot say more good about the maintenance department. We had two minor issues and Ken came over as quickly as he could. He is always on the job and so friendly that we have come to consider him a friend when we are there.

Dear Jim, A warm hello from all of us at the resort and thank you for joining us year after year. While our maintenance and engineering colleagues are not often seen by most of our guests, their job is of critical importance and we are always delighted to celebrate their efforts, especially when those efforts have earned a mention within a guest review. We shared your feedback with Ken and he asked that we pass along his gratitude and well wishes. Your added feedback is received with equal appreciation and we apologize if the greetings from our owner-services team were inconsistent. This will serve as a topic in our coaching dialogues and we thank you for sharing your impressions. On behalf of all of us, we again thank you for investing the time to share your feedback and we look forward to you joining us time and again for many years to come. All the best, Shawn Farrell General Manager

I stayed at South Seas Island Resort for a conference. My husband and I brought our son and we stayed in a beautiful 1 bedroom villa. I was in awe by the cleanliness, the decor was beautiful, and I loved the beach access. The room that conference were held in was also clean and I loved the staff interaction. I was in my 3rd trimester during our stay so being somewhere comfortable was important for me. I was beyond comfortable in our villa and felt at home! I definitely would love to come back!

I had stayed at the South Seas Island Resort back in 1979. I had fond memories of a wonderful beach vacation & wanted to share this place with my husband. I booked for our 24th wedding anniversary. I spent a lot of time looking at their web site and even made a call to clarify room views. Really wanted an ocean or waterview. I booked a Bayview Villa room thinking we would be getting views of Pine Island Sound as listed in the description. I also asked for a room on the highest floor available. Imagine my disappointment, when upon arrival, the view was of a small marina & mangroves. If we looked to the right there was a peek of the sound. I didn't like nor want to be on the marina due to noise of people coming & going. Also the room was on the second floor (first floor is covered parking, laundry & maintenance/housekeeing). As for the floor, in these villas, all units on the 3rd floor are 3 bdrms (we booked a 1 bdrm). Was not told this when I called to research. Also these buildings are a mix of rentals & owner units. Be aware owners only are allowed to have dogs. A call to the front desk to see if we could be changed to anothe room - we were told nothing else was available due to 3 weddings that weekend. On to the room itself - there was a damaged panel under the dishwasher indicating a recent repair. Worse the patio sliders were not locked & when I went to lock them, the locks didn't work. It took 2 calls & a wait of 30 minutes to get someone to come fix it as I was not leaving the room with unlocked doors. Cut into our beach time for the first afternoon. Compensated with free bike rental which we were not able to use due to 2-night stay. Another problem - One of the patio sliding privacy shutters was also damaged (off track) so could never be fully closed for privacy. Outside there could have been better lighting from the trolley stop to the buildings. Probably lacking in order to not bother the wild life, but it felt unsafe. The good parts - The trolley is great for getting around the huge property. We saw a beautiful sunset the evening we arrived. The beaches are beautiful. We had a beautiful walk on the beach on Saturday morning. Water was fairly calm for swimming, nice temperature & you were in deep fairly close to shore in places. Doc Fords was good that we ate there twice & also had drinks & ice cream one evening. There is a Starbucks that is easy walking distance in the shops across from the resort entrance. Wish they had an Adult only section or buildings. We were there for a romantic weekend & the presense of kids & noisy boaters was not the experience I was seeking. The resort seems to cater to families but with an aging population of travelers/vacationers who have time & money to travel, this niche market needs to be catered to. Caveat: Be careful when booking to make sure you get the room type you want, especially waterview. Play with dates as the web site does not simply show room types. I was unaware that what I was seeking was a 1 bedroom beach villa. Search results for our stay were showing 2 bedroom beach villas. If I'd have known more clearly what the view of the room was I booked (description was misleading & changed after I pointed it out to them) I would never have booked or booked for different dates. They do offer a Florida residents rate which lowers the room rate a little. Email communication was not helpful so I had to call to get questions answered to satifaction. May try to revisit someday.

Greetings, We are thrilled to learn that your memories from so many years ago brought us together again and we thank you for investing the time to share your review. As you discovered, the sunsets are still a treasured experience each South Seas guest must experience an we hope you captured a few photos to share with friends and family at home. Your kind words regarding your Doc Fords experiences have been shared with our culinary and service colleagues at the restaurant and the team asked that we pass along their gratitude. Your added feedback regarding the guest room categories are received with our appreciation and we apologize if a sold-out situation prohibited our team from offering a change in rooms. As an added hint, our resort is not always at full capacity during the week-days, and we encourage those with more flexibility in scheduling to consider a Monday through Thursday stay which will create more flexibility with room changes and an even greater opportunity for social distancing. On behalf of all of us, we thank you for sharing our resort with your husband and we look forward to wining your hearts in full the next time we see you. If we can assist in planning your return, we invite you to be in touch. Warmest regards, Shawn Farrell General Manager

Let me start by saying we have been going to South Seas for years and have always enjoyed our stay. They ran a special a couple of months ago and even though we have not gone anywhere since the pandemic began, we decided book a beach villa for 3 nights. I went online to read some of the recent reviews to see how they were handling COVID. I was dismayed to find quite a few recent negative reviews, dirty rooms, no cleaning supplies, no social distancing. I actually though about cancelling, but we decided that any risk was within our control. The resort is large and we didn't have to go to places that were crowded. We just got back last night and had a great time. Aside from the beach chairs being spread farther apart and some of the stores having shortened hours it seemed pretty normal. The room was clean and had plenty of cleaning supplies. We did miss the daily maid service since the sand always seems to manage to get into the room. Based on the parking lot, it looked like the resort was quite full on Saturday night, but at no time did we feel there were to many people. Masks are required in the stores and it looked like everyone was complying. A lot of the resort is open areas, so we did not feel the need to wear a mask. We did not go to the North pool, so I cannot comment on whether or not that was crowded. Over the years, we have stayed at the tennis villas, beach villas and the hotel and really they were all nice. We prefer the beach villas because they are a short walk to the water and have a great view. Yes, some of the units look a bit warn, so if you're looking for a 5 star hotel experience because you are paying $$$+a night, go someplace else. If you want to relax on the beach and just enjoy life, this is the perfect place. We will definitely be back again next year.

Dear Titan, Your endorsement means the world to us and we thank you for taking the time to share your thorough and thoughtful review. We are pleased to read that our resort provided the perfect escape and we trust you enjoyed endless socially distanced hours on the beach enjoying the sound of gentle waves splashing on the sand. As your comments note, we have taken several steps with the wellbeing of our guests and colleagues in mind and while this includes the pause of daily housekeeping services for stay-over guests, we have provided each unit with cleaning supplies and our team is of course happy to drop fresh linens or other necessities upon request. We appreciate your added comments and we thank you for your continued South Seas loyalty. It was a joy to serve as your home-away-from-home and we hope you can schedule another get-away in the months ahead. Until then. Warm regards, Shawn Farrell General Manager
