Sadly, unaccomodating if you wish to have visitors (see “My Gripe”, in paragraph 5, below). Otherwise, great accommodations, budget price, equals great value! Excellent location, directly on the beach, with stunning sunset views from eight of the rooms and the rear common area! This was our second stay at the island house. We came to celebrate my birthday weekend here and stayed four nights. My good friends came from Omaha, Nebraska, and got the room across the hall from us. The accommodations are tiptop in terms of cleanliness and the appearance of fresh renovation. Jenny, who does the cleaning here, really knows her stuff! When we checked in the fellow who checked us in, I think his name is Bill, was very helpful, showed us around, made sure we understood how everything worked, and made us feel quite welcome! The management asks that at the end of your stay you bring your sheets and towels to the laundry, take out your trash, and do any dirty dishes. This makes sense in terms of the cost of the stay. Their rates are very reasonable and doing these few chores is a very minor inconvenience. They also make extra towels, beach towels, and beach equipment, like umbrellas, chairs, and other things readily available for free. They only ask that you put them away when you’re finished with them. There are also a plethora of outdoor lightweight chairs, side tables, and chaise lounges, as well as several larger tables with umbrellas available in the common areas (see list below). It is a small hotel, just 12 rooms, and about twelve parking spaces. My two daughters were planning to come visit for my birthday Sunday afternoon and early evening for a sunset dinner. That’s seven people, including three children, in one 7-seat SUV. Aware of potential problems with parking, I mentioned this to Bill at check in. He said that they had a full house, but the visitors could park at the public beach about a quarter mile south. He said nothing about them being unwelcome at the hotel. Both me and my friend understood this to mean that they could park in public parking and walk to the hotel or we could go pick them up in one of our cars. My Gripe About 2:30, Sunday, when my family was about half hour from arriving, I went to the office to check and see if parking would still be a problem… if they still needed to park at public parking. The guy at the front desk, Earl I think (longish blonde hair), informed me that my family would not be welcome to visit the premises. He said that there was no room for them. I mentioned that Bill didn’t have a problem with it when I discussed it with him at check-in on Friday, but Earl would not budge, saying that if everybody in the facility had seven visitors it would be mayhem… that he had to consider the interests of all of his clientele, not just me. I get that, but why wasn’t this an issue on Friday. This wasn’t an issue when the family came to visit in similar fashion during our prior stay. He had no concern that I had mentioned this on Friday without issue, my family was arriving shortly, that our plans (dinner, pictures, sunset on the beach) were made around this location, that it only amounted to 3.5 visitors per rented room, and that they were already planning to park at the public beach. Upon politely voicing my displeasure with his position, his response was that though he did not want me to be displeased, and that I was only displeased because I couldn’t have my way. I countered that my displeasure was based on him disallowing a visit that I understood to be no problem, based on past experience and my discussion with Bill at check in. He said I must’ve misunderstood Bill. So, we had to abruptly change our plans, at the last minute, and figure out a way to move our refrigerated food and beverages to the public beach, find parking, and secure a pavilion. It was a pain in the butt, but we made the best of it. When we returned at 6:30, there were ZERO people using the accommodations in the Island House common areas (listed below). Wasn’t that just special? Even on “busy” evenings, when 8-15 residents are using the various common areas, there are ample chairs and side tables that could’ve accommodated my family. I hand it to Earl for sticking to “policy” to protect the experience of the residents, but this was kind of ridiculous. Good customer service uses policy to solve existing problems, not create new problems unnecessarily. This motel is within walking distance of the closest bridge to get to the island. Please use caution when traveling on this road. It is very narrow. Parking lot is small. You may have to park across the street. There is a loading/unloading spot up front. Located right on the beach!! Wake up and walk right out your patio door!!! Shout out to Bill and Earl, the managers of this awesome place, were friendly and kept up with maintaining the beauty of this motel. Our rooms!!! We had two rooms to accommodate our family. Motel room was completely updated!!! Located on the second floor above the office. Sunrise views. It had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee bar well stocked for what you need. Hot and pressurized water coming from the shower. Our room had a full and twin bed. Comfortable. No complaints. Plenty of room to store our luggage. Flat screen TV. Efficiency room was also all up to date! First floor with direct views of beach. Handicap shower, walk right in. Queen size Murphy bed. Futon that folded down, that was meh. Full kitchen and stocked (bring your own food, of course), dinette sitting for four people. Plenty of sitting room in the "living" room. A patio complete with 2 chairs and a small table. The grounds, lots of sitting under umbrellas. Three charcoal grills to use. A beach cabinet filled with everything you need. They provide even beach towels. Hammock to relax in. Floral and fauna. Lots of instagram photo spots. Great feeling of old Florida at this motel! The beach is lovely!!! Sunsets!!! Lots and lots of turtle nests. We finally found our yearly birthday weekend bonanza!!!!…
We very much enjoyed our stay. Our room was upstairs in the back and very private and quiet. Super clean, updated and plenty of room for a couple of beach nights. Easy parking, great location right on the beach. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!!
What a beautiful escape! Truly enjoyed our stay. The motel was completely renovated and very clean. The views were amazing and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend and will definitely be back many more times in the very near future!☀️❤️🌊🏖
After a not-so-great experience at different Casey Key resort, we thankfully were able to move to the "motel room" at the Island House on the second floor, unit 15. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! VERY clean, VERY quiet, VERY well-appointed, VERY modern, and VERY reasonably priced. We were delighted, to say the least! Further, the beachfront is MUCH better than several neighboring resorts. THIS is a highly recommended vacation destination!!
I’ve been wanting to visit Casey Key and take advantage of the beach and all the Island has to offer. Our stay was perfect! We walked to restaurants, road our bikes all over the island and found shark’s teeth. The room was super clean and the staff was friendly! I’d love to go back.
Awesome place. Right on the beach on a quiet Key. Fast wifi inside and outside. Nice sandy beach. Dolphins chasing fish nearly every day. Sand dollars laying in about 6-8 ft (2-3m) deep water. Stayed in the motel room and efficiency. Both are clean comfortable and recently remodeled. BBQs, sun chairs, umbrellas, etc. all available for free usage. Was exactly what we wanted: old style Florida vacation with modern conveniences.
Another great vacation on Casey Key. We have stayed at the Island House for the last 10 years. Amazing beach location. Beautiful ocean view, rooms are always nice and clean, covid safe. We love this place and always look forward to seeing Earl. He makes you feel welcome like a long lost cousin. Earl greats you and makes sure you have everything you need for your stay. I give Earl 5 stars for great customer service ! We can't wait to visit next year. Thanks so much for a great vacation!
I was hesitant about traveling during a pandemic. Island House put my mind at ease. There was an abundance of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc. Jeni, Earl and Bill wore masks at all times. All the other guests respected each others space. Can't wait to see you all in July! Julie and Kim
Absolutely loved it! Smaller family owned place with the old hotel charm. There are only 2 floors. the room was a spacious furnished studio with microwave, fridge, cooking oven, dishes, knives, spoons, TV, tables, chairs etc. Earl was GREAT and truly alot of help. We will be back soon Brent & Stephanie
