Great place to camp, bike and hike. Didn't catch anything fishing, and didn't see anyone else catch anything in 5 days. LOVED the 6 mile bike trail. Make sure and travel it counterclockwise for lots more declines than inclines, especially near the end, Saw deer, armadillos, herons, osprey, and turtles while there. Great facilities. Check out the wildlife viewing station just inside the front gate to the left in the early morning hours and late afternoon. Major deer trail right in front of the nice, large blind provided. Thanks for the chairs in there. Don't miss the Sweetwater Trail to Lake Krul, starting just across the Bear Lake dam. Half of that trail is a lovely boardwalk along Sweetwater Creek, ending at a beautiful restored grist mill. There is also a sawmill, smokehouse and other historical buildings at Krul. We hadn't camped at Bear Lake in years, but will be back a lot sooner. Wish I had taken more photos. There is very little cell signal at the campground, but got a couple of bars a half mile or so into the bike trail. Don't miss the Blackwater River State Park south of there for another great stay. Close by but totally different.
Nice little park. I went there with the Harley Owners Group for a chapter picnic on my Harley. It was a pretty decent ride. Beautiful surroundings and excellent amenities. The lake was rather small yet added a nice view.
Camped at Bear Lake Dec 28 - Dec 31, 2011. There were about 12-15 RV campers at the campground with a couple tent campers. The tent sites were good with most having water at the sites. There was electricity and water at the RV sites. $20.00 for sites with electricity, 15 for sites without. The latrines have showers and warm water. Pretty clean for a campground latrine. There was a nice trail around the lake, well maintained. Also a trail (1.3 miles) to the Krul rec area that has a man made lake made for swimming only. The first half of the trail to Krul wa through and area that was burned out. The second half was on a wooden walkway with really good scenery.
Two bad things to say about the campground: One is the number of planes and helicopters flying around. Everyday there was a civilian helo flying around most of the day. Also, there were a couple UH-1 Hueys flyi overs. Also, every night there was a low level fly over by a C-130 (probably Eglin or Hurlburt). Also, the campground is close to HWY 4 and you can hear traffic from the highway.
Overall, a pretty decent campground that is convenient to Crestview, Fort Walton, and etc. Warm water and nice latrines were a big plus. But not the most secluded and quite of places.

Stayed before and all was good. This last trip, red ants and german roaches were really bad. We got home and had to bomb the rv with bug spray and all the work that goes with it is just overwhelming. Not sure of a return back. Camp Host was very nice.

My site (#8) had an AWESOME view of the lake! I LOVED waking up every morning & looking out my door/windows & seeing the glistening lake in the forefront! Site was level & asphalted. Some trees/shade. Picnic table & fire ring were included as well. BATHROOMS WERE SPOTLESS!!!! CLEAN & ROOMY (bathroom-shower combo rooms). Ok, her comes the NEGATIVES (why I did not give it a 5th star) #1 WHY ? would you put the electricity box & the water connection on the opposite side of the rig???!!! I would have had to park FACING BACKWARDS from the lake if I wanted to connect my water/electric on my rig! LUCKILY, I had an extra 25’ electrical extension & an extra 10’ water hose so I could park FACING the lake & enjoy the BEAUTIFUL view! #2 - NO CELL CONNECTION whatsoever!!!! Only a miniscule bar from AT&T - that was it! NO TV reception (1 channel) IT RAINED intermittently the w/e I was there so I was remanded to be inside, BUT THE VIEW MADE UP FOR IT! Otherwise- this is a beautiful camping location to take the fishing poles & the canoe/kayak out! Fish WERE caught! The BIKE trail was probably a Level 1, with some nice foliage & fauna to be seen. DID NOT DO THE hiking trail. Maybe next time. OH YES, there will be a 2nd trip to this spot!!! Did I mention the lake view was FANtastic!…

Bear Lake is a jewel outside of Milton, Fl. The four mile loop around the lake is a perfect dog walk. Recent burn activity around half of the lake has temporarily diminished the wildlife, but spring rains should quickly change that. Expect a few muddy spots, but most of the worst ones have been boardwalked.

The campsites are clean and shady. We had a view of the lake. Perfect place to get away from it all. The bathrooms and showers are new. There are two cool trails to hike at varies time commitments. Safe too. A tip - there where a TON on ants at our site. A little spray, problem solved. Get a site near the bathroom.

We have been to Bear lake,on a couple of occasions for day trips, and always found it to be peaceful, and beautiful. We decided to go for a four day camping trip with our motor home. They have many great waterfront sites capable of holding most motor homes. There are also several pull thru sites, which also have a great view of the lake.Sites have electric and water hook ups.The rest room and shower facilities are old but clean, and from what I 've been told there are plans to put in new and more modern facilities. The fishing I'm told is good, and there are three trails,a 4 mile around the lake trail, the sweetwater trail to Krull lake about 2 miles.,and a 6 mile around the lake bike trail. All are well marked and kept.Bear lake allows boats with electric motors, and there are canoes to rent for $15 a day. There is no swimming because there might be alligators but we have never seen one,but swimming is available at nearby Krull lake. The best part of the trip were the camp hosts Joe and Gail who were as nice as we've ever met. They had many stories and advice and greeted new campers personally. There is also a large pavillion with professional kitchen for rent for events. If you want a quiet time or like to hike, and fish this is the place to go.…

My husband and I set out to go hiking at Bear Lake on Sunday, Sept. 27th. We hiked the four mile trail and enjoyed being with nature. It had been a long time since we have gone hiking. This was very enjoyable for us both. Can't wait to return.

We made a day trip to Bear Lake so I cannot review the campground, though it appeared to be nice but with no privacy between the sites. Our visit consisted mostly of a 4 mile walk around the lake. We had a great time! I have never seen so many pitcher plants (Sarracenia leucophylla) in one place at one visit! There were a lot of other wildflowers also, but I don't know their names. We saw the red-cockaded woodpecker nest hole in the pine woods area and saw an eagle off in the distance. We appreciate what looked like new boardwalks making walking in the swampy area a joy and some folks went to a lot of work to put down gravel/rocks to help keep our feet dry in other areas! Thank You!
