The Herlong Mansion Bed & Breakfast is a historic boutique hotel, event venue and retreat space. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this peaceful sanctuary began as a two-story pine farmhouse built in 1845. Nestled in Micanopy, Florida ~ a charming, historic town filled with local arts and antiques ~ the property is home to ancient oaks, magnolias, and palm trees, and a variety of plants and flowers that bloom nearly year-round in the warm North Florida climate.

Guests enjoy fresh home cooked breakfast, complimentary wine & beer from a local brewery, and fresh baked cookies. A small and devoted staff maintain the grounds and care for guests and visitors who travel from around the world. The Herlong has been featured in print and media like the New York Times and Good Morning America. The National Geographic Magazine chose The Herlong for their "Must Stay" list; and Florida Trend Magazine called the Herlong “Florida’s Most Elegant Bed & Breakfast."

We had a great stay. Owner Kim was gracious and accommodating to our needs a d wishes The place is impressive and very well preserved. We stayed at one of the cottages in order to avoid the stairs, but we had a chance to tour the main building which is a jewel. We will be back.

We stayed for just one night on a road trip. The hotel is just beautiful and old, so so charming. right in the middle of town, which is tiny but super quaint. Breakfast was lovely (something different every day I think), easy parking, great upper front porch with swinging beds. If you want to see any shops while open, do come before 5 pm.

Greeted upon arrival with a tour of the home, amazing chocolate chip cookies, coffee/tea offerings and a glass of wine or local brewed ale. Charming, interesting, lovely - breakfast the next morning was exceptional: eggs benedict casserole, fruit, and waffle. Casual, comfortable - and airy with very tall ceilings. Note that there isn't a tv in the room - but there is one in the parlor with cable and Netfilx - and WIFI available in your room. Plenty of front/back porch space to relax and enjoy the scenery. Beautiful oak trees throughout this quaint community - we enjoyed walking through the neighborhood. I would recommend a stop in town and Herlong Mansion for an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

. From the moment we entered its spacious parlor with its front-facing windows, wood-paneled walls, and hardwood floors, I felt we had stepped into the 19th century. There’re 11 rooms, four are suites, and Pump House Cottage, and Carriage House. Each room is unique, has its own bathroom and shower. Many have ball-and-claw tubs for great soaking. The cottage and Carriage House are pet friendly. Herlong Mansion has all the modern conveniences blended in. We had a special treat when Kim took us for a spin in the mansion’s 1930 Model A Ford.

I would describe the Herlong as the heart of Micanopy. For many years I have come to stay for a weekend whilst enjoying the spectacular local antiquing. The history of the Herlong home and family is one that deserves the upmost respect..sadly this is not the case under the new ownership. The common room walls have been stripped of its historic frames and a flat screen tv has been hung. You won’t learn about the Herlong home or family, but can watch Doc Hollywood.. What I assumed was the rude underpaid receptionist greeting me, was infact the owner. It took 5 minutes of awkward and cold conversation for her to crack a smile..I felt as if she was suspicious of me for no apparent reason my entire visit. I thought it was personal, but upon observing her other interactions with the guests it appeared that this was simply her personality. Kimberly, you took on a BIG task by purchasing this bed and breakfast. It is not just a business investment, this property and it’s history is Micanopy’s life support. To give up on the Herlong is to give up on Micanopy and all its beautiful people / culture. I don’t like to give negative reviews, and I would have never imagined to have to do this for such a magnificent place..but it pains me to see its condition. The grounds are not kept, the greenery is browning and looks sick. The roof was replaced with tin..convenient / cheap..sure but not doing the Herlong justice. The Hall which appears to be occupied by the new owner, has a cheap wood “blessed” decor on the window and Home Good pillows on the outdoor chairs..(I know because my granddaughter purchased those same exact outdoor pillows for my patio)..this is not in-line with the Herlong. Small details, but these things matter. I don’t know if the owner will ever read this, it’s not meant to be cruel, it’s meant to be a call to action..for Micanopy.. This is not honoring the history and preserving its linage.. I did not feel welcomed, I felt like an intruder. I will not be returning for a while, and hope that changes are made and that the Herlong receives the TLC and respect is deserves.. Micanopy cannot lose the Herlong. I write this review with tears in my eyes… -April.

My wife and I have been staying At the Herlong Mansion every October for the fall festival , for the past 12 years and we have seen it change owners 3 times. The present owner hasn't got a clue as to how to run a bed and breakfast nor does she care. She is slowly ruining the charm of this once beautiful Mansion. Not sure why she got into the bed and breakfast business but she really needs to rethink her plan. We have rented the same room for the past 5 to 6 years and always book for the next year as we check in. This year we tried to do the same but could not because they booked it out from underneath us when in the past we always had first chance to re- rent as a curtesy to long time customers., and we would pay a year in advance. The breakfast was quiche 3 days in a row and last day it was to be served with bacon but owner didn't have time to buy any. There isn't any maintenance available so if something isn't working you are on your own. There isn't a grounds keeper so things are over grown. It has come to the point that in order to save money they only allow one roll of toilet paper per room and if you run out at night there isn't anyone to ask for more. I know this may seem trivial but if this is what you do to save money not the business to be in. The owner Kim does care to know you or who you are she is rude and very stand offish, two terrible traits for the Hospitality Industry. My wife and I love Micanopy and this time of the year it is at it's best. We will not let this unfortunate stay at the Herlong stop us from our yearly trip and so we made other arrangements for next year just not staying at the Herlong. So in closing if you are thinking of staying at the Herlong Mansion make sure to look it over good so your not disappointed. one more thing before I close to show how little Kim the new owner knows she put a TIN roof on a Mansion to replace the Beautiful tile roof it ruined the look of the place. I'm sure it came down to money to make a discussion like that. Very sad. For Warned Is Foretold . Save your money and stay else were.

We had a lovely stay at the Herlong Mansion. It takes you back to another era. The staff was very friendly and always there to help. The mansion was clean, and the grounds are beautiful. Kim, the owner even took me for a ride in the famous Herlong Mansion car, it was magical.

Only one of us in the family ended up staying, although originally the plan was two (one was local). We’d booked the Herlong Suite. Our receptionist wasn’t overly warm, but the room was! After delivering us to the suite, and trying to turn the ceiling fan on (no luck) to take the edge off the heat until the A/C kicked in, she left without returning. One of us had offered to give it a look, if she’d bring a step ladder. After about 30-40 minutes, the room still quite warm, we went down and asked for another room. She said a service person was on the way, to repair the A/C. She wasn’t really apologietic. This was extra odd, as one of us had a mud dauber (looks like a wasp!) fly right at us as we were headed down the staircase to get help. She’d seen that happen, and didn’t apologize at all. In fact, she made us feel a little silly for being frightened, saying “See? I got it out by grabbing it with my hand.” Very odd lack of customer service. In the end, once we decided we didn’t need the additional space of a suite anyway, we just asked to go ahead and keep the room in which she’d had us waiting. She agreed, somewhat grudgingly. Breakfast was skipped the next morning, as the room it’s served in lacked light, and foods were yet visible on tables at 8:00a.m. Just overall a pretty disappointing stay. Ambiance is the biggest problem, The B&B needs an infusion of positive energy.
