On August 01, 2020, My wife and I were married in Miami Lakes. We live in the area and wanted our reception and wedding night stay to be special and elegant AND local. Don Shula's is a beautiful venue. Their courtyard/lagoon/gardens are beautiful and well-kept. There is a lagoon/river, fountain, tropical gardens with tasteful and cute bronze statues. There are flowering tropical plants and deep green foliage around the perimeter. The ballroom opens through a glass wall of doors a with a majestic view of the courtyard. The ballroom itself is well-laid out with respect to food service and a foyer to receive your guests. We had a small, intimate wedding because of the pandemic, but I'd say Shula's can easily handle 250 ppl or more. The team we had was outstanding. This year has been filled with strange circumstances. My mother was ill earlier this year, the global CoronaVirus pandemic, and that weekend Hurricane Isaias decided to pay us a visit and rain down winds and water with considerable force. If not for Dana Valdez and the team at Shula's, it might have been a 'wash'. They were able to quickly and efficiently move the event from being a beautiful outdoor tented garden reception to a swanky ballroom wedding reception. We stayed in the Governor's suite, a well decorated two-story, double wide loft room overlooking the gardens and pool with wrap-around balcony, bathrooms upstairs and down with kitchenette, connected with a spiral staircase. Our stay felt a like a cross between staying at an upscale place in the keys and a mini Caribbean/ Hawaiian vacation. I don't know about the regular rooms. The restaurant was absolutely delicious, the food, catering and service in general were very good. This is a great venue, conveniently located on Main Street, Miami Lakes, it's comparable to any other hotel/chain, but with a 'ma and pa' personal touch. I really have to stress that our positive experience was entirely shaped by the great attention and care of Shula's Director of Catering, DANA VALDEZ. She did magic, pulled rabbits out of hats, rolled out the red carpet, and made our day so very special. So THANK YOU!!!! I work in the event industry and I've seen over 400 ballrooms, hotels and corporate/social venues. Don Shula's, Dana Valdez and their entire team stand toe-to-toe with any of the best venues available.…
This will be my last stay. I had good experience in the past. After being forced to stay in the area due to location I stayed for 14 nights. Ants in the room. Pool door inoperative so had to walk around to go back to my pool view room. Ants in the bathroom. Housekeeping loud in the hallways. Palm tree trimming at 9 am with lift engine and trimming engine loud. Then blower forever in the patio not even able to be on the phone. And by mistake ate at shula’2. Steak as sole. Cold sides of mushroom. Paid almost 80 dollars for a meal. I had a much better meal at Ale House for less. It is supposed to be a steakhouse. Awful stay. Manager Frank thinks he is running Four Seasons Malaysia. Used to come often. Now no more. Stay away.
I had my wedding lunch at Shula's hotel and working with the catering department was easy! I stayed 2 nights in the Larry Collins Suite (aka Lanai) and it was the PERFECT place to get ready for my wedding. It was clean, spacious and comfortable with a view of the pond and my wedding lunch area. The hotel is walking distance to many restaurants on main street with different cuisine options. The hotel itself also has Shula's 2 making it easy to order in and enjoy a good meal. The front desk staff especially Chris was a real pleasure to deal with. Overall, a really positive experience!
I’ve stayed in this hotel several times over the last few years, and the quality of service is deteriorating with every visit. The staff is not friendly or accommodating, and while the hotel went through renovations recently, plumbing is still a major issue, as well as pillows and AC which is directed at the head of the bed (cold air blowing at your head all night long). Rooms are not too clean and neat, moving a chair revealed some type of oil slick which means floors are not washed properly. Whipping the bathroom floor collected a bunch of hair on towel....have short hair so not mine. Any complaints are met with “sorry can’t help you”, thus will look for a new hotel.
Perfect restful stay at a very large hotel complex in Miami Lake We had a fantastic light spacious modern room with one of the comfiest hotel beds I have ever encountered. Reception was fantastic great service Buffet breakfast more than adequate Ideal for a pre cruise stay I would not suggest it is ideally located for an extended stay unless you had a car or was an avid golfer. There are a number of restaurants nearby within a 5 minute walk however not much else Around 40 mins transfer from Miami International airport ($50 in a yellow cab)
