I have stayed in the Shula Hotel quite a few times over the years. I like the location on Main Street in Miami Lakes because it is an easy destination for meetings near Miami International Airport and equally easy to get to Aventura or Ft. Lauderdale. The garden setting inside the interior of the hotel is quite lovely as is the pool (and the spa) but the rooms are "tired" and need updating. My room had a small veranda overlooking the gardens but it was almost impossible to get to the veranda because the sliding door wouldn't "slide". In addition, the water was cold in the shower (even after letting it run for many minutes. I reported this after the first day but it was not corrected. I probably won't take a chance by staying there again.

My wife and i enjoyed a night in this hotel before embarking on a cruise from Fort Lauderdale.
We arrived around 8pm and check in was very quick and easy, we were shown to our room, which was surprisingly big and specious, the bed was very good and the coffee machine was a nice touch.
The hotel had a outside pool but we didn't get a chance to use it due to bring picked up for our transfer quite early the following morning. It did look good though.
We had an evening meal and breakfast in shula's2 steak and sports bar and the food was very good, we thoroughly recommend the nachos but you will need to share them!!!
The hotel itself was in a perfect location, 20 mins from Miami airport and half hour from the port. Right outside was Main Street shopping mall, literally less than 2 minutes walk away. There is also plenty of choice of restraunts if you didn't fancy the hotel food.
All in all a really good place to stop over and we would deffinatley use this hotel again.

SheppeySpoon - Thank you for complimenting our property and amenities. It sounds that though your stay was short, you and your wife got to explore and get a feel of what Shula's Hotel has to offer. We definitely have an excellent location with lots of dining and shopping options just walking distance from the hotel. There is also plenty to do and enjoy on our grounds as well, and our restaurant has quite a few items that are simply memorable! We hope your cruise vacation was fantastic, and we look forward to your future visit! Hopefully, it will be a longer stay, so you can take advantage of all our amenities. Thank you and safe travels, Adriana

Perfect restful stay at a very large hotel complex in Miami Lake

We had a fantastic light spacious modern room with one of the comfiest hotel beds I have ever encountered.

Reception was fantastic great service

Buffet breakfast more than adequate

Ideal for a pre cruise stay

I would not suggest it is ideally located for an extended stay unless you had a car or was an avid golfer.

There are a number of restaurants nearby within a 5 minute walk however not much else

Around 40 mins transfer from Miami International airport ($50 in a yellow cab)

What started off as a good moment/event for teenage seniors celebrating a memorable night, turned bad in minutes. I went to the Miami Lakes Hotel located in Miami Lakes thinking I was going to be able to watch my niece and her friends get ready for their senior prom but within 20 minutes of me being there the security guard that is employed by Security Alliance (Andy)rushed down the walkway to the room with a hotel manager. Once they arrived at the room they refused to speak with me or my sisters husband, they wanted to only speak with her because the room was registered under her(not a big deal but she was helping my niece get ready for her special day). Once she was able to come out they informed her that the food setup outside was a fire hazard. After about a few minutes I started breaking down the food because we just wanted to make sure the girls enjoyed their day. Within 20 minutes of breaking down the table the same security guard was standing in the corner on his cellphone and returned with another guy who said everyone had to leave. It was a terrible thing to hear that now you have to be rushed out the room because according to management you can only have 4 guest per room. Because this bothered me I requested to speak with management. In the middle of the hotel there is a Tiki hut area. At that table there were about 4-5 men sitting with music drinking alcohol (several bottles on table) on the other side of them there was about 7-10 people boxing. I asked about an open container policy and management did not seem to know what the rules were. I was disgusted because I felt like we were being discriminated against. There was no noise coming from our gathering and there were no guest being disturbed. We didn’t have alcohol and we didn’t have music. The security guard seemed very happy that we were told we had to leave out of the pool area(no one was in the pool). This by far was the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel, even kid friendly hotels give better treatment than this. Prior to renting the room my sister asked if she could have the event there and she was told she could but apparently they didn’t give that message to everyone. The operations manager (Fran) was leaving before he made the decision to shut everything down and the hotel managers (Rafael and Chris)watched at the front desk as security (Andy) harassed us by the room. The room was a spacious room but for the price and treatment from Security Alliance staff (Andy)and hotel management, I would never rent a room from this place.

Dear Butterflii3s5: We are very sorry that the celebration of your niece's prom was not as you expected. I can assure you that the safety and security of all our guests is the number one priority at our hotel, and for that reason, if at any time we spot a fire hazard, a fire Marshall violation such as having over ten people in a room or non register guest at deliciated areas such of the pool we need to make sure they and the rest of register guest are secure. If we can be of any assistance to you for future events, I can arrange a meeting with our events catering department to assist you. Thank You, Fran Marte, CHA

The most horrible experience ever. A total of $643 was paid for 3 nights January 2 thru January 5. About $214 a night for a huge disappointment. My room was not available for check in until 5:30pm when I was told 3pm. As soon as I checked in with my 3 kids I was disgusted and aggravated with the room. Hair on the back of the door, on the floor, tub looked stained and not clean and the hallway my room was on smelled of heavy cigarette smoke. My youngest son has asthma bad and I was not comfortable sleeping in the room. After 2 minutes or so after observing I went to the front desk to inform and request cancellation of my stay. I was told I paid through the Offense Defense Bowl 2020 program and they are responsible for giving me my money back. Not the case... I was charged for 1 night even though I did not stay which is ridiculous. I shouldn't be charged because their room was not cleaned and I refused to stay. They were booked solid so another room was not available. All a scam...

Had my daughter’s wedding in the lush green courtyard. Perfect backdrop for a tropical style wedding. We stayed 2 nights and the rooms were very nice and comfortable. Nice view of the gardens and a little porch to relax in. Can’t say enough about the staff who were very attentive to our needs. Stand out was the front desk manager, Chris Beltrami, who went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. It was a wonderful wedding weekend!

I’ve stayed in this hotel several times over the last few years, and the quality of service is deteriorating with every visit. The staff is not friendly or accommodating, and while the hotel went through renovations recently, plumbing is still a major issue, as well as pillows and AC which is directed at the head of the bed (cold air blowing at your head all night long). Rooms are not too clean and neat, moving a chair revealed some type of oil slick which means floors are not washed properly. Whipping the bathroom floor collected a bunch of hair on towel....have short hair so not mine. Any complaints are met with “sorry can’t help you”, thus will look for a new hotel.

We liked this hotel BUT

1. Reserved a room with a balcony. Arrived to find that we were not given a balcony, instead we were given a “patio”. Not the same. Our request to be moved to a balcony was denied
2. Woken at 6:30 am by staff in the hallway making an absolute racket for 30 minutes
3. There has been someone power washing the pool area since 8:45. Extremely loud. Not exactly relaxing.

You would think with the name of Shula's it be be a winner. I was wrong for thinking that. Upon arrival my son and I went to the front desk to check in and was met with an NOT so friendly desk clerk, upon completion of checking in we had to ask where the parking was for the hotel, parking was not visible from the drive in or at the front entrance. The cleck mumbled it was around back, still had not given us any idea where our room was located, we parked and looked for our room for about 5 minutes before it was located in another building. My 22 year old son needed the Wi-Fi code for his computer, he attempted to call the front desk from the phone in the room and it would not connect to the front desk he tried calling the hotel from his cell phone and could not reach the desk, he then walked up to the front desk to ask the code and was rudely told the pass-code, the clerk never looked up from what he was doing.
Now lets get to the room:
1) 1 bar of soap for the 2 sinks and shower
2) phone didn't work
3) Hot water from both hot and cold levers on one sink
4) items on the floor from previous guest
5) desk lamp broken the head of the lamp hanging by wires and dimmer switch not working properly

Needless to say less than impressed!

From the standpoint of location and front-desk staff, this hotel is great. But from the standpoint of the housekeeping staff, it is really bad. Housekeeping is badly trained. They tlk loudly in the hallways like they own the place, they knock on your door and proceed to open it without waiting for a reply. They ignore the do-not-disturb tags on the outside of the door, and they throw you out of the room if they need to make it up. I understand there may be policy that a guest cannot be in the room when it is being made up but a) the front desk needs to explain that to you when you check in, and b) the housekeeping staff need to be more polite about it. My Spanish is limited but I was lold "Tiene que salir", which, if I am not mistaken means "You need to leave". No request, no reference to policy, simply this.

On the last day (a Saturday), there was also some sort of yard sale in the hotel parking lot with loud music. I found it a little too much.
