This hotel on ocean and 14th is part of the Marriott Bonvey program which is why we picked it. Recently renovated you feel like you are in south beach. Room small, bathroom really small - larger people would have trouble navigating. Very hip Lobby with mid century modern vibe. Ate at the Italian influenced restaurant which had nice sized portions and was tasty. Our room did not have a view of the ocean/ocean Blvd but we were allowed early entry which we wanted after huge fiasco making a connection at the airport. This was a quick, unexpected, and affordable place to regroup, relax, and be where you can walk up and down south beach, see the ocean. Also no cars are allowed to drive right in front so people watching really pleasant without any traffic’s noise or smell
Staff is beyond wonderful, hotel itself is run down and extremely dirty. The lobby presents beautifully, but the rooms are a different story. Have included some pictures. The is a weird musty, urine smell as soon as we entered our room. None of the windows open , so you can’t even get any fresh air in there to clear it out. Carpets are worn through, have burn marks and gum stuck to them, sheets dirty, mold on the bathroom walls, and that SMELL of mold and mildew. I woke up first morning with a sore throat ,not sure if that was from breathing in the locked in room air, as again no windows opened to get some fresh air. No idea where those photos on the website came from. We peaked into two other rooms and none of them looked as nice as what they have posted. They all seem to be old and run down. They may have renovated one or two and that’s what they’re pushing on their website. The staff couldn’t have been more kind or helpful. They are definitely five star hotel staff. They are just trying to work with what they got. I would suggest to whoever owns this property to put some money into it and clean it up. It’s a beautiful location, a wonderful art deco building, but you need to get some windows that open, rip out all those carpets, renovate the bathrooms completely, and maybe invest in some new quilts and sheets that don’t have stains all over them.…
Congratulations Marriott. This property is by far the worst Marriott hotel I have ever stayed at. At check-in, we walked into the lobby which was strewn with garbage. Every single piece of furniture in our room has scratches and nicks on it. There is an amusing sign outside the elevator proclaiming it’s an original and historic. In reality, the elevator’s historic nature is based on its filth; I don’t think it’s ever been cleaned. The hallways are filthy. The lobby is filthy. Our room is filthy. Yes, this property has a great location, but you could never pay me enough money to ever stay here again. Whatever you do, stay away from this Marriott hotel.
Wonderful experience at the Winter Garden Hotel!! Upon arrival, we were greeted by Teresita, who made us feel very welcome - such a delightful person! We arrived early, so our room was not ready.we stored our luggage and took a walk to find brunch. Teresita called us promptly when our room was available, and we went to our room. How lovely! We had an ocean view room on the 6th floor, and it was the perfect mix of nostalgia and comfort. Hotel is in a great location - we would definitely stay here again!
3 1/2 stars, rounding up for effort. Pros: perfect location in South Beach, friendly staff, complimentary champagne on arrival, trendy restaurant and bar, rooftop area for sunbathing, 2 free chairs for the beach. No pool but access to a small one at sister property down street. Allowed late checkout. Cons: historic but deteriorating physical plant, rooms small, staff overwhelmed (one person at front desk ??), at times operated like a situation comedy. Free bikes but no helmets and tire treads bare. Room phone didn't work. Had to call for ice. Hotel has great potential but senior management problem, all the more of a head scratcher from a Marriott autograph collection hotel. Would stay again if not so pricey.
From start to finish, our stay at the Winter Haven was, indeed, a winter haven. Twelve years ago, my husband proposed to me here. He stood on the rooftop and shouted, "What an inspired idea!" He was referring to our decision to stay at this hotel. It was my way of introducing him to South Florida where I was born. He later met my family and I met his. Theresa was a gracious front desk hostess. Juan was a helpful and lovely valet. Josefina was a present and open hearted server in the restaurant (thanks for the mini fireplace). Barbie was also a wonderful presence as we dined with dear friends we hadn't seen since before the pandemic. We love the upgrade to the rooftop hotel room. Some furnishings showing some wear in the best of ways. The view of the ocean was great. I love L'occitane products (and the view of the Deuce Bar; lots of memories there from my younger artistic days; had a reception for a mural unveiling there years ago). Thank you, Winter Haven staff. Rainy and romantic and friendship-filled night. PS Order the lasagna!…
Small rooms with old dirt dark carpet, un cozy furnitures placed where possible leaving no space to open luggages. Small hotel with no management, workers eating where you get your seat for lunch, or dinner, or b.fast…First floor appear from lobby to be a storage for supplies and bikes. Super expensive with no reason. Probably not even one star, surely not two! I wonder how Marriott can give “Autograph Collection” title to the property.
We stayed here overnight after disembarking from our cruise. The hotel is in an excellent position at the quieter end of Ocean drive. The hotel forms part of the 'Art Deco' walking tour with some interesting Art Deco features: any restorations have been sympathetically undertaken, it is definitely worth any detour to stay here and there are bicycles for guest use and sun lounger available on the beach just across from the hotel. Staff are pleasant and helpful. If you can try for a front or roadside room as the others look over the alley. A good location for other restaurants for breakfast and dinner around if you don’t want to eat here.
We had a girls trip for 3. We showed up in the morning after our flight and dropped our luggage. We didn't get a room until 5 pm. We were feeling gross from travel and had plans so that was no good. In the morning our toilet would not flush. After being told they would move our room we waited over 2 hours and finally left. Our crappy breakfast was $162 with an alleged discount. They said we had a complimentary breakfast but that meant a croissant. They didn't really seem to care that we wanted to check out two days early because our room was still not ready. They discounted our one crappy night there by $20 which isn't even enough to get a drink at the bar.
At check in room wasn’t ready until after 5 pm, next morning toilet wasn’t working so was advised we would have to move rooms . Desk advised a new room would be ready in 15 mins so repacked and waited 2+ hours kept getting a new excuse so finally left . No refund was issued .
