I spent a lot of time carefully choosing the perfect hotel in South Beach and in terms of value for money combined with an ideal location and excellent service, this is the winner. From the outset, we were thrilled with our dealings with Anastasia (Manager) and Simphiwe, who were both quick to thoroughly answer all of our questions and make sure that everything was taken care of for our mother-daughter trip. Gabriel at the front desk was also helpful and nice. The new trainee was good but he should not have been left alone at the desk so much since he was still learning and didn't seem to have answers to any of our questions (which is understandable since he is new). The hotel is centrally located in an ideal part of South Beach. It's a 5 minute walk East to the beach, 7 minute walk South to many of the best fitness studios and restaurants in Miami in the South of Fifth area (and super proximate to the gorgeous South Pointe Park) and a 7-20minute walk North (depending on where you're heading) to the restaurants and fun spots around the Lincoln Road area. We preferred to spend most of our time in the upscale South of Fifth area so the hotel was perfectly situated for us. The hotel was recently renovated and it's really cool looking. The design feels modern and thoughtful with enough laid back 'Miami' touches without losing the contemporary feel. I loved the dark interiors. Very sexy and elegant without appearing too clubby. The Minnow Bar in the hotel is also a cool little Instagrammable spot for a cocktail. We stayed in the two-storey 'suite' which had a small living area with a couch, TV, wet bar and a small bathroom on the main floor, and then you take a charming winding staircase to the bedroom area where there is a king size bed, a full bathroom, TV and closet. There was ample space for unpacking our stuff which was great (and lots of hangers which is always appreciated). The rooms also come with a beach bag and beach towels which we used daily to both sit by the pool and head to the actual beach. Our room also had a terrace with a little sun lounger and a hot tub. The hot tub was very clean and we really enjoyed chilling in there while reading and having a glass of wine before getting ready for dinner. The bed itself was comfortable (and I have back issues so I'm picky) but the pillows should be replaced for an even comfier stay as they were pretty flat. Overall, I definitely recommend upgrading to this room if it's available. Another great feature of the hotel is that there are large canisters of fresh fruit-infused water in the lobby, which is something I always look out for. It's great when environmentally-conscious travellers can being their water bottles and refill them with ease so this was really a plus for us and a great initiative by management! In terms of amenities, the roof top pool deck was excellent. The loungers feel new and are super comfortable. The bathroom up there is spacious and clean, there are plenty of towels and thick chair covers for hygiene (which is a great touch) and we enjoyed the nice chill vibe. The servers are present but not annoyingly so, so you can get a drink if you want one but can also be left to just relax, read, tan and swim without being pestered every 10 minutes to place an order. We loved it up there and would stay at the hotel again just for the rooftop pool! Some reviewers complained about the lack of a gym in this hotel but we didn't miss it. There are OrangeTheory classes included in your stay and Simphiwe helpfully directed us to wonderful yoga classes on the beach which run twice daily (google Third Street Yoga). It's also MIAMI so you can get outside and be active almost every day on the beach, in the parks etc. Honestly, we didn't miss the gym at all and got a nice workout in daily. The only reason I ultimately had to dock one star from my review is cleanliness. I think there is room for improvement here. The cleaning staff came at erratic times so it was difficult to anticipate when we should be out of the room. When they did come, they did a great job of ensuring that the room was tidy, but it didn't ever truly feel 'spotlessly clean'. There were fingerprint smudges of dirt on the walls of the bathroom that could have easily been wiped, dirt in the corners on the tile in the bathroom, stains on the shower curtain and downstairs sofa and other small things that a more attentive cleaning would could have easily removed. Since Covid-19 was just starting to become more serious in early March, we wiped down most of the surfaces with Lysol wipes when we arrived and the wipes became filthy pretty quickly (from surfaces like the wet bar which should have already been thoroughly wiped down before our arrival). The room would have definitely benefitted from a deep clean and then our stay would have truly been five star. Another point worth making is that people commented in the reviews below that the elevators smell like manure. It didn't smell like manure per se, but there is definitely an unpleasant odour in the elevators. It seems like it's coming from the (albeit chic and cool looking) black straw-type material that lines the interior of the elevator. Personally, I would consider changing this material because so many people have commented about the smell in the reviews and it makes the trip up to the pool feel less luxe when you step into the elevator to head up to the rooftop and are hit with that scent every time. It didn't bother us too much, but it was definitely noticeable. All that being said, we would not hesitate to stay here again and with these small improvements the hotel would be our favourite place to stay in South Beach. Upper management should take note that we were especially thrilled with our interactions with Anastasia, who carved out a lot of time to make us happy and ensure that our trip was special. She clearly cares deeply about guests' overall experiences at the hotel and is doing a great job.

So first of all, didn't realize it was Spring Break when we booked the trip. Would stay away from SOBE at all costs. Very seedy. Hotel Pluses -Pool -Accomodating front desk staff -Good hotel restaurant (though I find this common with Kimpton brand) Location is so/so on a good day. Not great, not terrible. Cons -Everything else -Upper fare (king loft, villa) rooms are dated and ready for a Reno -Room cleaning very poor. Dusty, cant even refill the coffee (which you have to ask for the coffee pot) -Walls are paper thin which is tough during spring break week when there is a lot of partying -Hotel is catering to the spring break crowd with DJs Thursday-Saturday nights starting around 8/830 and brunch on Sundays

Booked a non refundable deal which the hotel cancelled after it was confirmed for over 7 weeks. They then said I could re-book at the current rates which were significantly higher because it was close to my travel date. Have sent 6 emails, left numerous voicemail messages but no responses at all. Unprofessional and discourteous behaviour that has resulted in me having to spend additional money on new accomodation. Steer clear of this hotel.
