The Z Ocean Hotel, Classico A Sonesta Collection, is often celebrated for its cleanliness and prime Collins location—just steps from the beach, shopping, and dining. A relaxing atmosphere pervades thanks to spacious rooms outfitted with quality furniture and private balconies, although there's a mix of feelings about the rooms' datedness and the need for updates. While guests love the comprehensive amenities including beach accessories, some are taken aback by unexpected charges that affect the hotel's overall value. Service is generally well-regarded, with staff described as friendly and accommodating, despite occasional lapses in responsiveness.

Stayed here for the day while waiting for a late flight home. Very nice hotel - big room with nice bathroom and great view of the pool. Short walk to a beautiful beach - the resort fee covered two comfortable lounge chairs and an umbrella. Lots of restaurants and shopping around. I'd stay here again.

We stayed in the Pool Lanai Suite which has the best access to the pool patio and perfect for a couple. Our concierge; Shaquille was amazing. We had a small hiccup upon arrive and he went above and beyond to ensure our stay went smoothly from that point on.

The location is great- still close and in walking distance to so many restaurants and bars but far enough away from the loud night life where you will not be disturbed.

I will most definitely be staying here again in the future!

This hotel was close to quite a bit. Lots of restaurants, shopping, and stuff to do that’s in walking distance. And the beach and boardwalk was just one block up... win! We got a package that included breakfast, which was an actual restaurant and always good. I loved that this hotel also offered bikes to use for free! My husband and I used those bikes to get all around South Beach (Ocean Drive, Lincoln Mall, the movie theater, etc.).
The staff at this hotel were very friendly and hospitable. Customer service was great!
Our room had two restrooms, which was so cool! The only downside to the room was that we were located right behind the elevator, which was SUPER NOISY, especially in the mornings. Also, the shower had no ledge to place your soaps anywhere, so we were forced to put our soap in a soap dish on the floor, which made for an awkward shower.
Overall, the hotel room was nice and I would stay here again.

There are a lot of echoes of past glory in this unique, relatively small 3 level property. Highlights include level 2 with the veranda suites that walk out onto the pool deck, which we loved as this was a kidless vacation for us. If you have young kids, you totally do not want to be on level 2 for safety reasons though. The hot tub is fantastic out there and maintained well. It is very hot though, so again, not for kids.

Caveat: we saw 0 children at this hotel during our stay, which was fine for us getting away without ours.

But the rest of the experience was uneven and often disappointing leaving you the feeling you're staying at a has been joint that Crowne Plaza doesn't care much about. It's hard to say how much is covid or systemic for the property, but it was a really skeleton crew, and as other reviewers have said you have to ask for everything. Your room won't be serviced unless you ask. You won't even get towels unless you ask. If you ask for towels expecting washcloths... don't be surprised when you only get towels. The front desk staff on check in (1 guy, struggling to stay awake it seemed) was... pretty gruff honestly - not something I was expecting at a hotel that fancies itself 4 star.

Broken stuff: shower temp control (seemingly random function), hair dryer (they scavenged a dirty but operational one from another room for us on request), an alarm on the slider to the pool that nearly kept us from using the best feature of our room), even the automated help line had out of date information about the pool being down for maintenance (it was not).

Good stuff: on-site dining at Front Porch was good. Parking at $35/day felt very worth it and their valets were outstanding. The pool and hot tub are really great and direct access from a level 2 room is a stand out feature of this unique property.

If I had it to do again, I'd have looked at other hotels further south nearer to muscle beach and the bulk of what's happenin, but .. that pool access and the surreal water pressure of the shower (when it was hot) was pretty sweet.

We spent 3 nights in a roof terrace suite. The suite was large and comfortable, with a fantastic shower, two sinks, nice Aveda toiletries, comfy bed and a sofa bed for my daughter- not to mention both a nice balcony with city view and a terrace with a hot tub. I would describe the decor as slightly dated but it was all clean and I was happy in general. However, we found some of the staff to be a little clueless. At breakfast the waiters were not paying much attention and despite paying for our family of 3 to stay including breakfast we had to pay extra for our daughters breakfast each day- the only comment; from one waiter was “Nothings free” !! Getting our hot tub filled seemed an onerous task as apparently something was wrong with it, communication was not good. Also, I attempted to request late checkout about 3 times but was continually told to call back later, very annoying. Finally when we checked out and disputed part of our bill which was not clearly itemised, the front desk lady assured us she would check with the manager then when we returned to pick up our stuff nothing has been done so we were just charged anyway.
I also think the pool area was a bit rough round the edges, could do with a bit of fixing.
To be honest the hotel was fine but it was definitely not 5 star despite a 5 star price tag. I guess that’s SoBe for you!

Let me start by saying the Crowne Plaza South Beach - Z Ocean is a fine hotel; my issue is more about how an IHG elite rewards member is treated, and frankly, the hotel does not recognize reward members nor treats them well.
I was given a room next to the elevator (my profile asks not to be placed near an elevator). The room was in the worst location in the hotel, a corner room, as far back as possible, with the smallest balcony; when I called, I was told that I could not move my room because of the occupancy; it was a Thursday, and according to hotel staff, not busy at all. I also was told the rooftop terrace was not available to guests. I then asked about a late checkout and was told it was not possible, but oddly a day use (an app) had the hotel available from 9 am to 4 pm for 189.00.
I have been an elite member for ten years and always felt special when visiting an IHG property, however not this property, I truly felt like they were letting me use my points, and because of that, you get what you get. At 60,000 points per night, I could have used them down the road at the Kimpton (great property and location – indeed on the beach), Interconnectional, who always treats you well.
Very sad to say, one of the worst experiences I have ever had using points and would consider this if no other property was available in the area. This has always been a go-to hotel, not anymore, not worth the 180k point I used. I will be asking for a credit.

We appreciate the feedback, Jeffery. It's unfortunate your stay in our hotel was less than ideal. We're disappointed you had such challenges with our team and that we couldn't assist you in every way. Your experience is not on par with the high-caliber service we're capable of providing so we'll be sure to discuss your review and feedback moving forward. A note to all our readers, IHG reward benefits allow for late checkout based on availability and room upgrades based on availability. We will never unaccomodate nor downgrade a paying guest to accommodate anyone else. Thank you again for the valuable feedback. We do hope to see you again soon so we can share a more positive experience with you.

We chose this hotel because it was offered through Costco Travel. We assumed that would be a nice safety net even though it didn't show reviews on CostcoTravel's website yet.

The location and roman hot tub on the rooftop terrace were great however, that was about it. We arrived to a beat up room with scraped off wallpaper and hooks in the bathroom hanging out of the wall. The shower looked fantastic with a rain shower overhead, handheld nozzle and two on the back wall to give a luxury shower feeling. However, the wall nozzles were clogged and did not work and the temperature control was confusing.
I called down to the front desk to inform them that the hairdryer bag was empty and they had one sent up about 30 minutes later. I also let them know that the television didn't work and that I found drug paraphernalia in the bathroom drawer. They assured me that they were sending someone up right away but no one ever arrived. We waited about an hour and finally went downstairs to speak with the desk directly. Again, they assured us that it would be taken are of immediately so we left for dinner. We returned late and it still had not been taken care of. The following morning, I informed them for the 3rd time that this needed to be taken care of and finally after more than 24 hours, someone came to clean out the drawer and get the television working. As a side note, we left the hotel to see the sunrise and we found it comical that the security guard was laying down sleeping in the area between the restaurant and the lobby.

For the cost of this hotel, $1100 for two nights, the service we received was appalling. I hope that Z Ocean ups their game from here on out, but given the reviews and the 'cut and paste' response to each bad review does not seem hopeful.

I have stayed here many times but this will be my last. The property has gone down hill over the last several years. Maintenance is poor, sofas are thread bare, furniture is broken, dirty and generally worn out, lights not working, electronics not working and obvious patches on the wall. Cleaning was almost non existent. We had no service the first day and minimal after that. To add insult to injury I was not given a copy of my bill but was charged an extra day incorrectly and the most attention I received was when I had someone knock on my door three times between 10:30 and 11:30 on departure day to make sure I was leaving.
Overall the staff acted like they did not care about their guests. We were never greeted, never helped despite coming in with our hands full several times and no one even volunteered to push an elevator button. The front desk staff just stared at their screens like guests did not exist. I was treated better at hotels that I was not a guest. I felt like Covid precautions were little to none. During the day guests had obscene and racist music playing so loudly from their balconies that everyone at the pool was forced to listen, including children. Marijuana smell and smoke was continually wafting down from the balconies. In general both the physical and service level has deteriorated so badly that I feel they are only months away from closing. Very sad as I have enjoyed staying at this location many times.

Where do I begin, first the price I was quoted online was different once I arrived by almost $1000, 2nd I requested a pool view room and was willing to pay which I didn’t get, we were there celebrating my boyfriends birthday and the vibe at the hotel was extremely dull, pool was very dirty and while we were sitting at the pool with another couple at the highboys 3 rats ran across the ground and jumped into the flower pots, next our shower didn’t have hot water for a day, the sink was clogged and when I had an issue about my bill the front desk agent Matthew was snotty and told me to call him whatever refusing to give me his name at first. I didn’t approach him with an attitude I just wanted understanding and he gave me an attitude considering I’m paying $3200 to stay here for 6 days. Within 6 days we didn’t get a chance to use the pool not only because of the rain but mostly due to the fact I didn’t want to swim with rats and the pool hadn’t been cleaned. Not to mentioned the fire alarm went off twice during our stay once we had to evacuate at 5 in the morning and the other time it went off at 7am briefly. This was the worst Miami experience I’ve ever had in my 14 years of visiting south beach making it a blah birthday with hotel issues for my boyfriend. I do mot recommend this place especially for the high prices, hotel is not as advertised.

Booking with this hotel is nightmare I recently planned a romantic get away for myself and my wife and somehow my reservation was lost and had to book two separate rooms , SPA Suite and then got downgraded to standard room.I was very disappointed with the service and actually came back back to this hotel because of my previous experience. Which I thought was nice and clean hotel back in 2008. I was literally treated terrible by management and housekeeping. I advise management staff and housekeeping staff that their shower drain was clogged in our room on several occasions through out the morning which lead to the shower over pouring. I called the front desk and asked someone to take a look and no one ever came. I ended up cleaning up everything my self. I was charged 300 dollars on top of my two night stay which was 650 dollars not including breakfast. when I called back to talk to the manager he accused us of spilling red wine on the sheets which i believe it was something housekeeping did. On the phone i explain the situation to him and acted like they was not in the fault or in the wrong. He was rude and asked him "this how you treat your hotel guest" he said " take it up with your bank" the Hotel smelled like weed the whole time I was there. You could not get to the hotel restaurant through the hotel you had to walk around the building. No one social distance they only had one working elevator which they was not social distancing at all. I don't like to end on negativity so i will say one positive thing is the rooms are nice but pricey but not worthy if they don't know how to treat their customers.

I'd call the hotel directly or IHG toll free reservations. This is not a large property (boutique hotel) so they may not especially, being on the main strip in South Beach. Their daily incidental charge is also high. Seems like it's $100 per day.
