This place is an absolute hovel! DO not stay there if you value your health and sanity. The rooms are moldy and have peeling paint. Water pours from the electrical light fixtures on the "rooftop terrace" whenever it rains, the front desk is almost always unattended, no room service for 7 nights even with placard hung requesting same. Tucked between a vacant lot surrounded by chain link fencing and filled with trash and landscape debris and an alley filled with overflowing garbage cans. Several homeless people camped out in front, and several deserted blighted buildings on the block that the so called boutique hotel is on. BY FAR the worst property I've stayed at in over 40 years of domestic and international travel.

The hotel is beautiful. It is close to the beach. It has very nice amenities. The staff is very accommodating. We stayed for one night but managed to see a lot because the hotel is close to everything. The art deco vibe is wonderful. We would definitely come back

This hotel is always amazing! We visit it twice a year. Federica is THE BEST over at Kayak hotel. We’ve never seen anyone multi task as effectively as she can! She is amazing! She is so knowledgeable and helpful and her recommendations were on point! Her warmth, friendliness and attentiveness took our experience to the next level! Highly recommend! Thank you! We can’t wait to be back.

This was way overpriced for what we got. The only reason I booked was when I was making reservations I called and was assured by a woman that their restaurant would be open on Christmas day. We arrived late afternoon not having eaten since 6am and were informed the restaurant would not be open. The TV didn't work in the room but George was absolutely wonderful as he was the only one on duty and had to navigate several things going on with other visitors. The elevator was very noisy and we could hear it from the room but otherwise the evening was restful. For the managers, as a rehabilitation professor I have a couple of suggestions- 1) there should be a clock in the room so people can see the time at night, there are nice wood mats by the showers but they are a trip hazard for seniors and we stubbed our toes on them. In addition ,the lighting in the room is insufficient for those with poor eyesight. To be honest we would not stay again, that said, George did save the trip.

My wife and I stayed for the weekend. Very short trip but had an amazing time. The hotel is small and but very cool. Nice cool boutique lounge feel. My wife loved all the plants everywhere. Staff at the hotel and the restaurant (layla) were very friendly and helpful. Made us feel right at home. The room was a bit small but nice. The roof top space also was small but very nice. We really had a unexpectedly amazing time.

We could not ask for a more perfect getaway! As we checked in we were greeted by Essence and Marge who were extremely friendly and helpful! The hotel upgraded our room to the suite which was absolutely fabulous! Downstairs you can find live music and always some people hanging around which gives the hotel the perfect boutique vibe. We absolutely loved the in room amenities and the overall tranquility this place has!

The Kayak Hotel on Miami Beach is the kind of hotel you love to tell your friends you stayed at, but in reality, you hated every minute of it. On its face, it's a ‘tres hip’ South Beach boutique, with a hip bar and trendy restaurant, but the reality is that its too cool for its own good. .Here’s my testimony: I walked in and really felt I found a gem…the lobby decor is tropical and it smells great, the bar looked inviting, and I noticed an on-site restaurant…but that feeling did not last long. I knew we were headed downhill when a very nice man, located near what appeared to be a front desk, told me that check in was “self service.” HUH? Yep, he showed me the sleek little tablet where I would have to check myself in. Within a few seconds, there was a problem…the piece of technology that was checking me in wanted payment, even though I had prepaid on Priceline. Oops. Human required. I was told to return in 10 or 15 minutes while my situation was ‘sorted out.” OK, so, no problem, I will just sidle up to the chic bar and have myself a Tito’s and pineapple. OOPS!!! “The bar and restaurant are closed Monday and Tuesday,” the nice man told me, and that was that. What kind of hotel has a lobby bar and restaurant this is closed two days out of the week?? So I had to talk a walk outside and find my Tito’s elsewhere. I returned and in fact it was confirmed I had paid in full. Which means I could “DIY” it and check in with the tablet and get my room key. Which I did. The room…..it's not only that it was tiny…it was that there was no place to put anything. No drawers, no shelves, no storage. So my wife and I had to put our bags and backpacks on the 12 inch gulley between our bed and the wall. Then, as I was unpacking, I heard a high pitched tea kettle-like sound. LIke a dog whistle. It was quite irritating, and for the life of me I could not identify the source. I went back to the front desk to see the nice man, whose name is Jack, who told me to follow him upstairs to the room. He immediately identified the source-- “oh, it's the toilet. That happens when you flush.” He then told me how to lift the septic tank and jigger the internal levers until it stopped…which I had to do every time I flushed for the remainder of my stay. The Wifi signal…one word…WEAK. Most calls wither dropped or were interfered with. The TV….again, way too hip, way too dysfunctional. They leave you with two remotes, one standard and one teeny tiny ultra cool sleek looking thingee you move with your fingers…but since there are no words on it, just icons that were meaningless, I was on my own to figure out. Cleanliness….well., if you don’t look under the bed or in the corners, you would be much happier. Ignorance is bliss. I lost my phone under the bed and to my great fortune came in contact with cakes of dust begging to be vacuumed. Ew. Ah, last but not least, the “Courtyard View.” This is an insult to the intelligence. What they don’t tell you is that the “Courtyard” is the "tres hip" and very dark LOBBY! No lush green sunlit garden. Nope. The dark lobby. Ergo, in the room it's night time, all the time. The saddest thing of all to me is that the Kayak Hotel is sliding on the slippery slope of a terrible trend. It’s a deflating, and depressing reality in our world: Human kindness, personal interaction, the feeling that you are literally someone’s “guest” is disappearing--not just from the hotel industry but the service industry in toto.

Well Kayak, you really have this right. One night had to turn into two as it was so good. Personal, charming front desk staff. Great food. Beautifully appointed. All of the comfort , easy style and service delivery of those big brand boutique hotels (yes you know the ones ), but without the pomp or stuffiness that can go with them. Top marks , Kayak - I / we will be back.

I stayed here in November 2021. I had a fairly decent stay, but it was NOT as close to certain activities as some of the reviewers made it seem. It IS near a Walgreens within walking distance, which is perfect for travelers who tend to forget small necessities when packing. However, take 'walking distance' with a grain of salt, dependent on what you're there for. I found myself Ubering more often than I expected but quickly rectified that by adjusting plans to combine with how long I'd be away for the day. That aside, the hotel itself is cozy, safe and comfortable. I stayed on the 1st floor and although some reviewers complained of noise, I had NO such issue. If you stay on the 1st floor, they closed the door of the hallway that leads from the lobby to your room. That helped eliminate a lot of 'lobby' conversations & interactions. I found the restaurant/café to be a unique edition to this boutique-style hotel. I must say, I did NOT eat here so I cannot state much regarding the menu & food. I will say, though... I did enjoy a morning cup of coffee there and was able to linger out on the restaurant's back patio, which provided a relaxing vibe and flowy breeze while enjoying my coffee. That was nice and had a very decent ambiance. Rooms were clean. Beds were a nice size. Although there was only 1 roll of tissue in the room upon my arrival, staff was pretty good about bringing another roll when asked. They provide you with a general number to text during your stay, rather than calling to the front desk. I actually preferred that. I've always hated calling front desk for any reason. I wish EVERY hotel incorporated a text system for requests, I'd be happier with that method. Overall, I enjoyed my time there. Whether I stay again is solely dependent upon distance and my reason for being in Miami. If I am primarily relaxing, yes I'd stay. If I am there attending various things where I'd be back & forth leaving out frequently, I'd likely opt for a different location.
