The Tony Hotel South Beach was originally designed and built in 1939 by L. Murray Dixon, a master architect responsible for many of the Art Deco buildings that line Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Dixon’s signature style, embodied in this hotel, included streamlined curves, jutting towers, window “eyebrows,” and neon. Originally named The Tiffany (and subsequently renamed The Hotel of South Beach), the hotel’s rooftop “Tiffany” spire is an historic landmark, towering majestically over Collins Avenue for more than 80 years. In 1985, legendary placemaker Tony Goldman visited South Beach for the first time and fell in love. He saw past the blight and dilapidated buildings that plagued South Beach at the time and envisioned the American Riviera. He spent the next 27 years of his life leading the renaissance of South Beach, fighting to preserve its history while also envisioning its future as a pedestrian destination where people from all walks of life could enjoy its natural beauty in an inclusive community. Tony Goldman bought and methodically restored the hotel, among other properties, and in 1998 enlisted fashion designer Todd Oldham to infuse the hotel with the rich colors, shapes, and textures emblematic of the Art Deco era. The renaming of the hotel as The Tony Hotel South Beach in 2022, on the tenth anniversary of his passing, was a fitting tribute to Tony Goldman by his family, who still own and operate the hotel to this day.

The Tony Hotel South Beach captivates many with its prime location and signature Art Deco style, offering a vibrant atmosphere steps away from the beach. While the rooftop pool and beach amenities receive positive remarks, some guests note the pool can feel crowded. The opinions on room quality and value are split, with praise for cleanliness but criticism regarding potential extra charges and dated decor. Service experiences vary, with commendations for attentive staff juxtaposed with mentions of occasional maintenance and service hiccups.

We have stayed here twice & loved it. We have booked to return for a third time.

The hotel is not luxurious but is located in a great location, directly on south Beach and a short walk away from Lincoln road or corner stores. There is plenty going on around the hotel, without being too noisy.

There is a CVS only a couple of minute walk up the street, which we found to be handy. The beach itself is literally across the road. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, who go above and beyond to meet the needs of the guests. Nothing is too much for them. There is a bar available in the hotel, a rooftop pool area and a happy hour available at the pool area for a specific time each day.
I feel this hotel would meet the needs of a variety of travellers and have recommended to those I know who have planned to visit Miami.

I would highly recommend booking a room with a balcony as the balconies overlook south beach & a great Birds Eye view of all of what’s going on in ocean drive night life. Overall a great stay here on both previous stays.

Love this hotel & cannot wait to return

They say that the first impression makes the stay. At the Tony Hotel it started very bad.
The guy in the reception when we arrived was not interested at all to make us feel welcome. He could hardly say hello or have some kind of serviceminded attitude. Here is the roomkey and that was almost it. Then i started to think if this was the atmosphere here, but it changed quickly. We got in touch with one of the concierge guys. Domingio? was his name. Great guy told alot about the hotel and where the elevator, poolbar ,etc was. He saved the first impression to go sideways.. He also took care of one of our bags that got lost from the plane and kept it safe til we came back later that night
We got a nice corner room (205) in the main building and even its near the main street we could hardly hear anything from outside. The room was big and the bed was ok. Its not a brand new hotel so of course there is some smaller issues but not worth comment. it takes around 8 - 10 min to the beach there you get 2 sunbeds but if we wanted an umbrella they charged 20 bucks. I personally think thats a ripoff according that we already pay the resortfee so it would be included.

The poolbar is very small but it fills its purpose. And here is my second big shoutout. The people who works there are very very nice and friendly. I forgot to take their names but hopefully they get some kind of recognition from the management. We had a great time there after a long day on the beach. The food is great and happy hour beer was welcome.

The cleaning of the room could be better and some of the staff didnt want to be at work at all. But if I would go back to South Beach again i would consider to try The Tony hotel again

This is my second time staying at this hotel in the last few years. My first visit I had a standard room in the main (Collins) building. This time I booked an Ocean Drive deluxe king room. The difference is worth the upcharge. I know it seems a bit odd to think about the "annex" and having to walk a half block and enter essentially through the front door of News Cafe. I got over that pretty quickly. The only reason I would really want to be in the Collins building is to use the pool, which I did every day, but if you think about any large resorts it's not uncommon to have the separate building set up, albeit on closed grounds. My room was spacious, especially the bathroom. Being above News and having closer access to Ocean Drive has its own advantages.
Another "weird" thing was having ice delivered but each time I did it arrived in less than 5 minutes with a smile. Let's be honest, everyone at the Tony is exceptionally friendly. Back to the pool, all the amenities of a high end resort on a small scale. Each lounge chair has a padded cushion, fitted towels that don't let the thing run down your back every time you move, a neck roll and additional towel which of course the pool staff provide and set up. And the food and drinks are very good. Again, service with a smile.

Dear A6938LTavids, Thank you for writing of your recent stay at The Tony Hotel. We appreciate you highlighting the differences between our two buildings and offering some insights that will help fellow guests during the booking process. We are also appreciative of your detailed description of our lounge chair and pool deck setup and find your comment, "all the amenities of a high-end resort on a small scale" to be quite accurate. I find it hard to believe the recent 4 and 5 circle reviews for this hotel are genuine.

We booked as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, for 2 nights in a suite. We would have left immediately following site of the room, but arrived late and had nowhere else to stay. We left the following morning.

The furniture in the room was filthy, with all sorts of stains. When we reported this, a man came to the room, looked around, spoke Spanish on his radio and left.

We went to reception to ask about a room change. No room change was offered. The manager did not offer even an apology.

With no other option, we asked for sheets to cover up the dirty furniture. When we got back to the room, the filthy stools had been removed and blankets placed over the furniture that couldn’t be removed.

We pushed a bed towards the wall so one of the kids could not fall out. It appears the floor under the bed had never been cleaned.

I thought that at least the bed sheets would be fine. Even those were not in good shape, with rips, which appear to have come from excessive wear and tear.

Both of the beds are in the same room of the suite. So with the kids in bed, we sat on the blanket covered furniture, in the hope of looking for alternate accommodation for the next night. The hotel WiFi did not work in the second room.

My wife went to the hotel bar to use the Wi-Fi, and in the hope of a much needed drink. She sat at the bar from around 9-9.30pm, no bartender, no drink.

When checking out at around 8am the next morning. I asked to speak with a manager and was told he would not be available to until 12pm. We therefore have no option but to seek a refund for the second night through the booking agent

There are other issues

Hotel superbly located in South Beach, next to Ocean Drive. Very cool building on the outside, Art Deco style like almost everything in that area. The only thing we didn't like very much was that our room was not in the main building where reception is located, but in a neighboring building on Ocean Drive itself, although they help you carry your suitcases there. The room has old furniture but is quite large and functional. Comfortable and large bathroom and the bed is very comfortable, and despite being located in an area as noisy and bustling as Ocean Drive, it is perfectly soundproofed, we never had noise problems while sleeping. Young and friendly receptionists, most of them speak Spanish, and we also highlight the kindness and friendliness of one of the employees who served us at the bar, of Nicaraguan origin. We would return đź‘Ś

To be honest I'd higher expectations, I did arrive in the storm and floods, the welcome was anything but warm, the guy whom I won't name was bored, not interested. I went to the room in the main building listed as De-Luxe Double, to be honest I couldn't see what the Luxury part was , OK it's supposed to be Art-Deco, but the furniture looked like it was from a bargain warehouse, no bedside lamps which meant you'd to push the dimmer switch up to full light to read anything. Bathroom was lovely, the room was clean and TV had great channels. I went for breakfast on 1st morning in Tax it comes to equivalent of €22, to be honest it wasn't worth it, no cut fresh fruit, eggs and very hard bacon, for the money it wasn't good, the server however was lovely as was Jorge on reception. The pool is more of a plunge pool, the sunbeds were impossible to get, all I saw was reserved, reserved for cabanas, the bar prices are really high the only time you could have something was during happy hour and a non-alcholic drink was €12.
The location is great.... Plenty to around, lots of restaurants etc
I was glad to be leaving to be honest.

Dear Sean L We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at The Tony Hotel. We have noted your concerns regarding a reading light by the bed- this seems quite valid and perhaps we can make some adjustments. Although the furniture in the rooms was custom designed and built, it is not brand new, and may not offer the same look and feel of newer, branded properties. At the time of this review, the breakfast buffet was $18 plus tax and gratuity. The breakfast buffet includes: eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, waffles, pancakes, various cereals, breads, yogurt, granola, juice and coffee. We are confident that most of our guests are quite pleased with the offer and price. Our rooftop pool is located at the main Collins Building on the fourth floor. The building holds just over 50 guest rooms and a small amount of public space; so no, the pool is not gigantic, and you will likely not be doing laps in it, but it should be adequate for the boutique hotel that we are and an enjoyable cool down for our guests. From 2pm to 5pm we offer happy hour at the pool; a selection of tapas, frozen drinks and cocktails can be had for $10 per order, beer is $5. The same happy hour can be enjoyed at our lobby bar from 4pm to 7pm. Once again, thank you for reviewing our property and providing your honest feedback.

This hotel is absolutely amazing, one block from the famous Ocean Drive and the iconic beach, it sits pretty much in a fantastic area where you can get around to everything very quickly.
It is a very art deco hotel, great people in there to help with whatever is needed, nothing is too much trouble, parking is nearby and affordable.
A very nice hotel which i am going back to again this year.

We had a great stay at the Tony hotel in south beach. From the moment we arrived all the staff were so friendly and helpful, with special mention to Domingo, Anthony and Malenie! They were always on hand if we needed any help or recommendations which was really appreciated. The hotel itself is in a great location right near the beach and restaurants and bars, room was a good size and always clean (would recommend bringing earplugs though as we were 1st floor and could hear people walking round above us). The pool was lovely with a great happy hour and view of the beach! We would definitely come back again and recommend to friends.

Unfortunately stayed here for 5 nights. The foyer and rooftop are nice. Sandwiched in between is basically a 2 star motel. The only positives are the location and the concierge, especially Domingo who provided excellent customer service. Our room (309) was small, outdated and looked out onto an alleyway. The noise from the air con, water tank and neighbouring rooms was constant. Had to buy earplugs to get some sleep. Finally moved room after 3 nights when rusty water leaked through the ceiling, only to be told by reception that room always has leaks, thanks.

Reception staff have a horrible habit of answering the phone when you having a conversation with them and were more concerned about getting the resorts fees rather than asking about the stay. The guy behind the bar had a poor attitude and would go missing for so long it was impossible to get a drink. We ended up bringing back our own as it was easier.

I stayed three nights at end of January 2024. I thought I had booked an ocean view room. I booked with the hotel website and when I asked for clarification from the reception clerk, he was arrogant and stated where on my reservation confirmation did it state "ocean view"? We arrived at noon with check in at 3:00 PM. My room was only available after 6:00PM and the sheets were not completely dry. It took two hours to have them dried. They did not have dry replacements. I stayed in room 228 on Ocean Drive. The tile is loose in the toilet and bathroom. Grout is missing. We did not use room service fearing wet sheets again. The rooftop pool bar has OK service, but service was bad in the downstairs restaurant as tips are 20% and mandatory. Expect to pay a lot for everything. The beach was nice. Two beach chairs and towel were included in the room cost for each day from a rental company. The Hotel is split in two parts making it awkward as the pool was not in our building (entrances one block apart). I do not recall anything about the two different buildings when making the reservation. There are probably better options nearby. We won't go back.

Dear Kurtledoux, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Tony Hotel. We apologize for any confusion surrounding the type of room that you booked. The Tony Hotel is comprised of two buildings that while quite close to each other, are not connected. The main building sits on Collins Avenue and consists of room types that contain "Collins" in the name. The second building sits on Ocean Drive consists of room types with "Ocean Drive" or "Ocean Front" in the name. The only room types with a direct view of the Ocean and Lummus Park are the Ocean Front Balcony rooms. We have notated the maintenance issues you described, and they have been addressed. Our property includes an auto gratuity of 18% on all food and beverage checks, which is standard practice for the majority of hotels and restaurants in the area. Sorry to hear you will not be giving us another chance, we wish you the best in your search for the better option.
