The Penguin Hotel delights guests with its prime location near the beach on Ocean Drive and its unique retro ambiance; however, some guests express dissatisfaction with room maintenance and cleanliness. While the atmosphere often receives positive mentions for its nice vibe and the staff's helpfulness, the value proposition is marred by hidden fees and a perceived mismatch in services offered for the resort fees charged.
As for amenities, opinions are divided: some appreciate the convenient access to local dining and the beach, while others are taken aback by unexpected charges.

I've been staying at the Penguin Hotel for decades now. Rooms are clean, comfortable and the staff is excellent. Since my last stay, they've changed the breakfast to a buffet format, and it is delicious. Special mention to Carmen at Penguin's front desk, who made a positive impression on my last visit years ago, and continues to offer excellent service, exceeding expectations. You feel good knowing that she is in charge, keeping everything in order, while being so personable. Thank you, Penguin Hotel!

The hotel has a perfect location and is really close to the beach, it’s amazing in great weather. Although the rooms are a little cozy, you don’t spend the majority of the time in the room. I would like to give a special shoutout to Michael who was extremely helpful at the front desk. He was accommodating and always proactive. Overall, we had a great time and the staff was very friendly.

Nesrine at the front desk of Penguin Hotel was a delight to speak with and provided a real VIP experience upon my arrival and entire stay at this terrific art deco hotel in South Beach. I had a very positive experience overall and really appreciated the location nearby the beach and local amenities. Thank you!

The apartment is quite comfortable and the hotel is in the best place in town. The breakfast is delicious. The team that works there is quite friendly and nice, specially Nesrine, who helped us a lot whit the backpacks. Thanks so much, hope to comeback soon!

We stayed a couple of nights at the start of our holiday at the President and ended our stay at the Penguin. The reception staff at both hotels were great and a special mention for Ashley at the Penguin. We got a surprise upgrade and really enjoyed our stay. It is appropriately priced and very well located - a stone’s throw from Miami South Beach.

When I got here it was quite crowded with everyone checking in, but the front desk guy, Ronald did a great job at being efficient and friendly. He went above and beyond The rooms are pretty small but they are well done and we are RIGHT by the beach. There is also tons of restaurants near by and drug stores if you forgot to pack anything. There is a rooftop pool here.

The hotel is in a great spot. Right next to night life without being loud and the beach is so close! The shower handle fell off in my hand and the water soaks the place. The outdoor shower doesn’t stay turned on. The air conditioning is very loud and you can’t keep it on overnight. Couple of spots of mould in the room. No coffee facilities. Construction work everywhere. On a positive the terrace was great, loads of space and loungers and the room is a decent size. Just needs a little love.

I stayed at the Penguin Hotel for three nights before returning to the Uk. I had read past reviews and was anxious before turning up for my stay. Aside from that end of Ocean Drive being closed to traffic being dropped off on 14th street I cannot complain. The breakfast was at the President Hotel - best time to eat is 7.30-8.30 afterwards there are more people than seating available. I didn’t try the pool but did walk over to the beach. It’s beautiful, clean and the hotel give towels. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, and a CVS and Walgreens which every traveller needs. I recommend the Miami bus and boat tour if you’re travelling solo, and be safe especially as dusk approaches. My room was clean, on the second floor and have no complaints. I’d stay again as it…
