Nestled in a prime South Beach location, the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and clean facilities, with the pool and beach areas being particular highlights. While the service generally receives accolades for its attentiveness, some guests suggest there's room for improvement. Travelers appreciate the array of amenities, though the added costs can be a downside. Despite the hotel's lively charm, noise can be an issue, from construction to poolside festivities. Additionally, the rooms are often viewed as needing an update and more space.

Water Zumba was amazing! Romi is fantastic
Had a great time with my girlfriends for a weekend bachelorette
Loved the poolside service and had lots of laughs over the weekend. Fitness centre needs updating but Romi’s classes made up for it.

Our family of five (kids ages 14, 12, and 8) stayed at the Surfcomber in 2 connecting rooms in December 2019. Our stay was only 1 night on 24 hour layover, and now we're trying to work out how to come back for several nights.

The hotel was closer to MIA than I thought, and only took 20 minutes to arrive via Uber. Once inside, we arrived during the hotel happy hour, which featured complimentary wine (on this day it was a delicious wine selection from a Washington State winery) and a few little snacks. As you can see from the pictures, the hotel has a boutique and eclectic style that is as stylish as it is warm and welcoming.

The room is spacious, has a desk, and has plenty of outlets for our needs. The beds were comfortable, and the showers worked great. To top it off, the wifi worked well.

We did have enough time after we arrived to enjoy the pool as well as the beach directly in front of the hotel. The pool had towel access that was easy to find, and had people working the pool to make sure you had everything you needed at all times.

The location is perfect, and within walking distance of plenty of shopping and all kinds of food options.

If you are staying in the South Beach area, I highly recommend this hotel due to comfort, amenities, location, staff friendliness and helpfulness, and look and feel.

Check in was a breeze. Lobby is really cute and design is amazing. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Each room had a mini fridgeI think housekeeping came once during our 4 night stay, but the carts were in the hallway so we just exchanged the towels ourselves. Great coffee bar in the mornings and wine bar in the afternoons. Food was good, especially the fish tacos.Pool was really warm and beach was great with great service on beach. Great location. Elevator breaks all the time so be ready to use the steps. Have free bike rentals, pool and beach towels and beach chairs.
Larger bottle of water in room was $10.00 ( not kidding) but there is a Walmart about a block down where you can buy water for your room. Also have valet parking but it is 50$ a day!!!!! All in all though enjoyed it and would go back.

The hotel itself has great amenities and you can’t beat the location! I used my reward points to pay for my stay, so you can’t beat that! I had so many from traveling over h to e years and was pleasantly surprised I could use them here. The rooms are on the small side, but who cares, we didn’t spend a lot of time there anyway. The beach was the place to be or at the pool. The hotel has a couple bars and a restaurant with a pool with a view of the walking path to the beach. I loved that you received two free chairs for the beach, but it’s extra for an umbrella if you want one. We used the fitness center during our stay which had dumbbells, an elliptical, treadmills, bicycle, and a weight station. We were able to keep up with our fitness routine which was great. It was also easy to walk and run on the beach. We were charged $54 for a double shot of scotch at the bar which wasn’t explained to us ahead of time or we would have ordered a drink off the menu which ran $15-20 each instead. Overall everything else was excellent and the staff was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. We definitely would stay here again. It did not bother us at all that the housekeeping staff did not enter the room the entire stay because we could text the staff when we needed anything.

Whilst the location of the hotel is good, this fell far short of expectations and provided poor value for money. The resort areas, for which one pays a fee, on both the beach and the around the pool, were claustrophobic. On the beach, $22 allowed rental of an antiquated small umbrella which a patronising beach attendant eventually helped open insisting that I had not been waiting 20 minutes for help. The internet did not work on the beach and only by the pool if close to the main hotel.

The rooms are tired, to say the least, with wafer thin walls and very noisy air conditioning units and was noisy outside. When we arrived, in the corridors to the rooms were 2 broken fridges that had been left blocking the way, and during our 4 night stay unfinished room service food on plates were left outside 2 doors for at least 36 hours before being collected.

The ethos of the hotel appears to be how much money they can extract from guests for everything, rather than providing a service to guests, albeit the service was OK, and the staff friendly.

I stayed at the Surfcomber for three nights with my family. The overall experience at this hotel was relaxing and pleasing. The front desk experience was delightful, the gentleman was knowledgeable of the hotel and the surrounding area. He gave us a detailed yet simple rundown of the hotel which was not overwhelming. The room which I booked on an extremely discounted special exceeded my expectations. To quote my son "the bathroom makes me feel like I am rich and living fancy". The room came with two double beds, a mini-fridge, a TV, two glasses with an ice bucket, and a glass desk. Our room overlooked the outside center walkway from the front desk to the pool which is lined with palm trees and other tropical plants.
The pool is a standard rectangular shape surrounded by sun lounge chairs. The two long sides of the pool behind the lounge chairs are where the cabanas are located. Between the two areas are palm trees that are connected to the cabanas by lush green vines with purple flowers blossoming on them. There is a towel boy that will get you set up in the area of your choosing by the pool or provide you with what you need for the beach. During our stay, he was polite and courteous to everyone I observed. The poolside bar attendants walk around regularly and your orders came out quick and correct every time. The only personal disappointment was the absents of a hot tub at this hotel.
Behind the pool area and next to the bar area is an area of sand and grass where there are chairs and tables to sit and talk or play games. There is also a ping pong table and a 4 foot tall connect 4 game which people were enjoying. Beyond that is the walking path that travels along the beach down to Ocean drive where the restaurants and shops are located. It is a beautiful walk between the beach and the back of the hotels surrounded by tropical plants. The hotel also has bicycles free of charge to ride around the area on, Spa services, and free red and white wine for an hour in the evening.

This was our 4th visit and we always travel as a family (three kids 8, 6, and 3). We are Kimpton loyalists and this property is our favorite. In the current environment the Surfcomber has the perfect set up: easy to get to and ample outdoor spaces.

The Social Club has a new chef (Javier) and the food is the best it has been since we started visiting. Don't miss the empenadas, chicken Provence and the greens board. Fan favorite ricotta donuts are thankfully still on the menu. Julia (F&B Manager) took the time to get to know us and added a couple of thoughtful touches to our stay. Behind the bar Ruben is top notch for cocktails, local knowledge, and conversation.

The highlight for my kids was Kwaku and his pool treasure hunt. He has a wonderful and magnetic personality. This is our idea of vacation: kids are entertained and my wife and I are enjoying cocktails by the pool. Only issue is it only occurred once during our stay, more kids daylife activities would be a big plus in our book.

Shout out to Ivanna and the younger bellman who provided personable service.

They just completed a refresh which the rooms were in need of. The lobby got a new look and they removed my favorite piece of artwork at any Kimpton hotel ("The Person you love is 72.8% water). If that is in storage let me know.

I feel like the hospitality industry is using Covid as an excuse to cut services with daily housekeeping being one of them and no option to opt-in. Also no kids play area or boogie boards on the beach which were promised on their website as an inclusion to their resort fee (even on their modified services plan). I am all about safety but these services can be provided safely.

Overall an excellent stay, we will return.

We stayed four nights at the Kimpton Surfcomber and had a fantastic time. The amenities at the hotel or excellent. The pool area cannot be beat. Food and drinks are great too. The accommodations were extremely clean, and throughout the stay, the hotel did a great job of modifying to encourage safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a very short walk to the beach and the chairs and towels provided about the pool and the beach make the resort fee well worth the expense. We would love to come back!

The Surfcomber is a great hotel and offers excellent value. It’s a laid back vibe and the staff are really polite and friendly, it has a touch of personality with the bright art and pretty planting in the courtyard.

The added amenities are a nice touch, we had a free morning coffee and continental breakfast daily (fruit and pastries), wine hour (5-6) and exercise including yoga flow and also the amazing pool Zumba taken by CARLA, who is so lovely and delivers her class brilliantly! All of this is included in the price.

The Social Club and High Tide restaurants offer pretty decent food too, I’ve definitely been served some over priced breakfasts in other hotels that were really disappointing but overall the food quality here is good.

The bed is really huge and comfortable, and although small the bathroom is perfectly acceptable.

The hotel can be noisy depending on where your room is situated, as well as older families and kids there is a little bit of a party vibe so this could be distracting if you are looking for complete peace and quite. But you are after all in Miami Beach so I think it’s to be expected. Our simple solve for this was to put the free yoga mat along the door to plug the gap ; )

We have stayed at quite a few hotels in Miami Beach and the Surfcomber was one of the best in terms of location, ambience and added value. We’d come back again!

First, our room wasn't ready until half an hour after the guaranteed check in time, while we watched people who arrived after us get their keys. Most hotels have a room ready an hour or two before it's guaranteed.

Second, our final night was interrupted by massive construction noise between 12am and 2am, for which the front desk was utterly apathetic. (Apparently this was some sort of "emergency" work to the kitchen.) We extracted some concessions for our trouble (a food+drink credit for the checkin issues, and a late checkout for the noisy night), but we shouldn't have had to.

It seems like this hotel has stretched their housekeeping staff too thin, and the cracks are showing, more than guests should expect at these room prices.

I only know about hotel guests. All guests get a wristband; that gave us daylong use of facilities, even after checkout. I do know that the umbrellas on the beach itself cost $15, whether or not you’re a guest.

Almost no seaweed at all! Just there this past Tuesday and the water was crystal-clear, warm, and calm. I hung out closer to the beach with my small kids, teaching them to float on their backs, while my wife swam out a decent distance.
